Kansas City police were searching in the freezing weather for a 6-year-old boy who left his Northland home Thursday night.

Police said the child was last seen leaving the home on foot around 9 p.m. in the 5100 block of Northeast 63rd Terrace.

The child, identified by police as David Dimbiri, is described as a black male, 3 feet tall, around 50 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, wearing a dark blue jacket and dark blue sweatpants.

Officers and personnel from the fire department have been searching the neighborhood on foot and utilizing a drone off N.E. 63rd Street and North Brighton Avenue, scanner traffic indicated. Police were also checking surrounding areas.

The search continued late Thursday, when temperatures reached the single digits. It’s expected to drop below zero by the early-morning hours Friday, according to the forecast for the area.

What in the world is this little boy doing waking out of his home at 9pm into freezing, snowy weather?
I hope the searchers are able to find him quickly.
That's exactly my question. Why was he allowed to even leave? It took time for him to get his coat and put it on, so why wasn't he stopped then?

There is also a large wooded area just to the north of there

How long was it that he left before help was called?

I'm glad he was found when he was too. I couldn't sleep. That's really close to me

I thought of that on reading it, right in your neck of the woods. They do hit "closer to home" when they are closer to home so to speak.

I woke up thinking about Faye in the middle of the night and couldn't sleep. It still amazes me how even as a stranger how wrapped up I can get in the outcome, especially with children. I can't imagine how it is for the families of missing children.

Happy this one turned out well! So happy for this boy and his family.
