They were last seen on November 26, 2010. Alexander was last seen wearing black pajama pants and a grey shirt. Andrew was last seen wearing brown pajamas with orange trim. Tanner is missing with his brothers, Alexander and Andrew. Their mother, Tanya Lynn Zuvers Skelton, had filed for divorce from their father, John Russell Skelton, in September 2010 and had custody of the boys.

John took them for a court-ordered visitation over Thanksgiving, and never returned them. That last time anyone besides John saw them was at 5:00 p.m. on November 25, the day before their disappearances were reported.

John stated he gave the boys to a woman named Joann Taylor, whom he had met on the internet several years before, and asked her to return them to their mother. He said he did this because he planned to commit suicide and didn't want the boys to see it. He stated Joann was married to a pastor named Mark, drove a white or silver minivan and lived in either Hillsdale, Michigan or Jackson County, Michigan.

John attempted to hang himself later that day, but survived and was hospitalized, first at a general hospital and then at a psychiatric facility in Ohio.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the Skelton brothers, but they could find no sign of them and no indication that Joann Taylor even existed. Police said they believed the boys were in "grave danger." They said they believed John's story about Joann Taylor was fictitious and something else caused the Skelton children's disappearances.

Investigators stated they were investigating the disappearances as homicides, and John was the prime suspect. They said John's blue Dodge Caravan was on the Ohio Turnpike, along the Michigan-Ohio border, between 4:00 and 7:00 a.m. on November 26, and asked anyone who saw it to come forward. It has the Michigan license plate number 9JQ H93.

John has stated his children are still alive but will never be returned as long as their mother has custody of them. His relatives and Tanya don't believe he would have harmed them.

Adrian College students producing documentary on missing Skelton brothers

It was on Thanksgiving Day of 2010 when Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton disappeared from their Morenci, Michigan home.

The boys' father, John Skelton, eventually told police that he gave the boys to an underground organization. Now nine years later, there's still no trace of the Skelton brothers despite extensive searches that led to nothing but dead ends.

"I have for several years now, I guess, accepted the fact that my boys probably are not alive," the boys' mother Tanya Zuvers told 13abc in February.

With so much mystery surrounding the boys' disappearance a group of Adrian College students are working to keep their story alive.

"We wanted to make sure this story was told and not left out ... in the dust," Adrian College junior Gage Dansby said.

For nearly a year, Dansby and his team have put together a documentary on the missing Morenci boys. Their goal: to inspire someone to say something and bring the brothers home.

Their film is titled "Without Wax," which stems from a phrase the students say the brothers' father signed at the end of his letters.

"It's still an open case," Dansby said. "Something can be done about it."

The father of the missing Morenci boys could be a free man later this year.

The 13abc I-Team has learned that John Skelton now has a scheduled parole hearing. This coming 10 years since anyone last saw Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton.

Skelton is a long way from walking out of his Michigan prison near Grand Rapids, but the process will start later this summer.

The Michigan Department of Corrections tells the 13abc I-Team that Skelton has a scheduled parole hearing on the week of July 27. An exact day isn't known yet.

According to the Department of Corrections, Skelton will be on video conference in front of a three-member panel. Those board members will ask him questions about the crime he was sentenced for, his behavior in prison, and performance in any prison programs.

He'll also be asked, if he is paroled, the plans he has after leaving and what community support he may have. The board will take all that information, will assess risk and then listen to the public.

Any supporters, victims' family members or just any people opposed to the idea can communicate with the parole board ahead of time. No witnesses will give testimony at this hearing.

The board will make its decision after that process has taken place.

John Skelton was sentenced in September of 2011 for unlawful imprisonment in the case of his sons, the three Skelton brothers, who were reported missing in 2010.

The meeting between a parole board member and Skelton on Wednesday will be a private one.

No decision is expected to come from that meeting. Instead, the board member interviewing Skelton will take notes and provide that information, along with information on the Skelton case, to a second board member.

Skelton will not be eligible for parole if both board members vote "no" on granting it to him.

If the decision is split, a third board member will have have to break the tie.


According to the Michigan Department of Corrections website, his earliest release would be Nov. 29, of this year. His maximum discharge date would Nov. 29, 2025.

Exactly. I think you put into words what probably most of us feel. I wonder too, in cases where a parent might be the perp, if it bothers them at all to see what a beautiful teen or adult their child may have turned into but they cut it short...

That was part of my victim impact statement, not a missing case, but I feel I can identify with that you picture them the age they were, the beauty they were going to be, that youthful personality, and then you see for instance your sister's grandchildren (who of course you love and are glad they have them and they are safe but it is also bittersweet) if they were about the same age... You watch theirs grow with every milestone and change from bubbly infant to smart cute toddler to tween to teen to adult...

Nowhere close to that far in the years yet but I already know that is how it will go as it already does... We are at the 3 to 4 year range as far as how old she would be... The child gone is stuck in your head at that last age but also you see others that are getting older and so cute and developing yet the one missing or dead does not progress in age... They both stay in your head at the age they were killed and you grieve for what you never got to see and it tears at you when you see others that age and imagine or wish you could see it, but in real life, not necessarily an age progression photo. It is beyond difficult to put into words.

Even so, I do not know that I would want to see a professional age progression to see what we will never get to see. Sorry for going on... The Wix grandma is so right about that...

Again, sorry, I need to leak a little here and there... On occasion...

Back to the point, if it helps find them alive, I see why they do it. I don't feel in this case they are but I hope and pray I am wrong.
