On the evening of Saturday 5 July 1919, 21 year old Bella Wright went for a cycle ride and would shortly be found shot dead a short distance from her home in stoughton a small village just outside Leicester.

She was found lying by the side of the road by a farmer and the first thoughts were that she had fallen from her bike, and suffered head injuries. Until Police Constable Alfred Hall returned the next morning and found
a .455 caliber bullet, they then looked at the body more closely and found she had died of a gunshot wound.

She had last been seen riding with a man on a green bicycle.
The police had few leads and it wasn't till February 1920 when a horse drawn barge snagged on something under the water it was a green bicycle frame ( one of the PC's who pulled the bicycle out of the canal was my great great uncle) someone had tried to remove the serial number on the frame but the police managed to
read it and they traced the frame to a man called Ronald Light from Derby.
