Kidnapping Suspect Raps About Killing Missing Girlfriend: Video

A video recorded hours before police captured Monrovia kidnapping suspect Robert Camou shows the 27-year-old rapping about killing and burying a woman. The chilling video emerges amid a frantic search for his missing girlfriend, who hasn't been seen since Monday morning when a neighbor reportedly saw Camou dragging her body into his trunk.

In the video, the man is handed a microphone during open mic night at a Skidrow bar and raps "I killed my b---- and buried that b---- in the f------ dirt." He also calls himself a "gangster" and raps some other indistinguishable words before walking out of the camera's view, according to the video obtained by KTLA.

Robert Camou, who is a suspect in the disappearance of 31-year-old Amanda Kathleen Custer, was taken into custody Tuesday after a nearly five-hour standoff with police in downtown Los Angeles.

Custer was last seen Monday morning in the 600 block of Vaquero Road, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Blood was found inside the home at that location and a witness told investigators the suspect, Camou, was seen placing a possibly unconscious Custer in the trunk of a 2017 gray Toyota Prius.

That same car was spotted by Los Angeles police around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday near Hill and Second streets, and Camou was seen lying in the back seat, occasionally pretending to be asleep, police said.

The suspect refused to come out of the vehicle, prompting a standoff that included a pair of SWAT tanks pinning the car in place. Surrounding streets were blocked off, complicating the morning commute in the downtown area.

SWAT officers broke out the rear window of the Prius and tossed tear gas into the vehicle, prompting Camou to surrender around 7:30 a.m. There was no sign of Custer.

Camou was booked on suspicion of burglary and was being held without bail, according to the sheriff's department, which reported that he had been the subject of a no bail warrant.

Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said Camou and Custer had been dating for about two years and they had a tumultuous relationship marred by domestic violence allegations.

Custer does not live at the house in Monrovia where blood was found, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.

"These two have had a dating relationship for at least two years," Hoglund said. "There have been numerous domestic violence incidents between them."

Custer filed court papers in February seeking a restraining order against Camou, claiming he showed up uninvited at her home and broke a double- pane window with a hatchet, according to court documents cited by ABC7.

Custer is white, 5 feet 8, 140 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.

Anyone with information regarding the possible kidnapping was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS or lacrimestoppers.org.

Man suspected of assaulting, kidnapping girlfriend arrested, search for missing woman continues

Authorities searched Wednesday for a 31-year-old woman believed to be kidnapped in Monrovia by her boyfriend, who was taken into custody after a nearly five-hour standoff with police in downtown Los Angeles.

Amanda Kathleen Custer was last seen Monday morning in the 600 block of Vaquero Road, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Blood was found inside the residence at that location and a witness told investigators the suspect, Robert Anthony Camou, 27, was seen placing Custer -- who appeared possibly unconscious -- in the trunk of a 2017 gray Toyota Prius.

Camou was booked on suspicion of burglary and was being held without bail, according to the sheriff's department, which reported that he had been the subject of a no bail warrant.

Monrovia kidnapping: Search for missing woman focuses on Mount Baldy area

Authorities are asking Mount Baldy-area residents for help locating a Monrovia woman they believe was kidnapped during a domestic violence incident.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says Amanda Kathleen Custer, 31, was kidnapped Monday in the back of a gray Prius sedan, with California license place 8AOR167, in the 600 block of Vaquero Road, Monrovia.

The Prius was reported to have been last seen Monday morning traveling north on Padua Road in Claremont toward Mount Baldy, according to investigators.

Residents who live on Mount Baldy Road, Glendora Ridge Road and Glendora Mountain Road should stay alert for any signs of Custer, they added.

"We are very concerned for her well-being. We're asking her, if she's OK, to please contact any law-enforcement officer," said Lt. Scott Hoglund of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at a Tuesday press conference.

A restraining order filed by Custer in February included details of Camou's alleged obsessive behavior.

"He has made over 100 (phone) numbers to verbally bash me," Custer said in a court document at the time. She went on to describe an uninvited visit to her home by Camou: "He turned around, came running at my window, and broke my double-pane window with the hatchet."

Camou remains in police custody without bail on unrelated burglary and domestic violence charges.

Monrovia Kidnap Suspect Due in Court in Connection with Earlier Case

A man suspected of assaulting and kidnapping his girlfriend in Monrovia is expected to appear in a Pasadena courtroom Thursday in connection with a previous case in which he is charged with assault and domestic violence.

Meanwhile, a search is continuing for Robert Anthony Camou’s 31-year-old girlfriend, Amanda Kathleen Custer, who hasn’t been seen since 8 a.m. Monday, when Camou allegedly placed her in the trunk of a Toyota Prius in the 600 block of Vaquero Road in Monrovia. Sheriff’s officials say blood was found in the residence where Custer was allegedly assaulted and abducted.

According to court records, Camou had been scheduled to appear in a Pasadena courtroom on Monday in connection with earlier charges including assault and domestic violence, but he was already on the lam and did not show up for the hearing, leading to an arrest warrant being issued.

Camou, who is being held without bail, made a brief appearance in court Wednesday in connection with that case, and he is set to appear again Thursday morning, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial in the earlier case.

A redacted copy of the criminal complaint in that case provided by the District Attorney’s Office identifies the alleged victim only as Amanda C — presumably Custer. Camou was out of custody in that case subject to electronic monitoring, over the objection of prosecutors, who had asked that he be held on $150,000 bail, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Thus far, no charges have been filed against Camou stemming from Monday’s disappearance of Custer.

Search Continues for Woman Believed to Have Been Kidnapped by Her Boyfriend in Monrovia

Authorities continue to search for a woman believed to have been kidnapped by her boyfriend in Monrovia earlier this week.

During a court appearance Wednesday related to that previous case, Camou said he wanted to represent himself during proceedings. On Thursday, however, he was represented by a public defender and a hearing was continued to September 4 to discuss a preliminary date for that case, officials said.

Custer and her grandmother filed restraining orders against Camou, both of which were denied, according to records reviewed by the Los Angeles Times.

One of the filings alleges that Camou was verbally, mentally and emotionally abusive toward Custer.

Camou allegedly sent Custer text messages using “over 100 fake numbers” and had smashed the side mirrors off her grandmother’s car with a hatchet, the Times reported.

After the restraining order was denied, the newspaper reported that Camou responded by filing his own restraining order against Custer. That request was also dismissed by a judge, according to the Times.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is reviewing the video of the rap and officials are asking anyone who was present when the video was recorded, or had contact with Camou that day to come forward.

On Wednesday, authorities asked members of the Mount Baldy community to "remain vigilant" in the continued search for Custer.

Search Area for Monrovia Kidnap Victim Expanded

Sheriff’s investigators Friday announced they have expanded the search area for an alleged kidnapping and assault victim missing for five days, authorities said.

Sheriff’s investigators Friday expanded their search to include the area of Lytle Creek because Camou is believed to have great knowledge of the area, officials said. It is in the San Gabriel Mountains and about 16 miles northwest of San Bernardino.

“We are asking the community to remain vigilant and keep an eye out for Amanda Custer,” Deputy Marvin Crowder of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.

Sheriff’s officials said Wednesday Camou’s car was spotted shortly after the alleged kidnapping traveling north on Padua Road in Claremont toward Mount Baldy.

“Anyone on or off road, in the area of Mount Baldy — Mount Baldy Road, Glendora Ridge Road, Glendora Mountain Road — on Monday … between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., that observed suspect Camou, victim Custer and/or the Toyota Prius, are encouraged to contact Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau,” Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said in a statement.

Sheriff’s officials also asked to hear from anyone who may have seen Camou in a downtown Los Angeles bar Monday night. Cellphone video from the bar, first obtained by KTLA5, shows Camou during an open-mic event, singing an expletive-laden rap about killing a woman.

This is still a very active case. Do we know a more narrowed down area to search?

Investigators working this case have stated that the search areas have widened from the Mt. Baldy area all the way to the Lytle Creek area. This is a pretty vast area. Rugged mountain terrain with alot of hiding spots. My thoughts though is she must be near or close to a fire road. The suspect was alone and I don't believe he would have spent much time disposing of a body. I drove some areas of Lytle Creek yesterday focusing on some dirt roads that connect to the main 2 lane road but noticed nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm thinking that area up from #4 would be where he'd go. Do they have any idea of whether there are "party" spots or other types of seclusion areas that he might have been familiar with up there?

In the live news briefing they stated they have reason to believe after getting gas at the ARCO on Sierra he took the 15 south without going into the creek. The thing though is this statement kind of contradicts why they would then include Lytle Creek in their area of concern. The areas the timeline shows to focus on would be between Lytle Creek and Azusa Canyon above the city of Azusa. No mention of party spots. He was alone so I can't see him transporting a body far from a fire road alone in broad daylight.

Is the Arco off Sierra the one that has the McDonald's inside? Going west on Sierra could/would take him to many spots. Where did he go once he got on the 15 S? Did they say?

I'm not certain if the McDonald's is inside the ARCO. I'm pretty certain it is in the same lot though. They stated he got back on the 15 south but do not elaborate much else only saying he showed up 5 hours later in Azusa. In my opinion this means he would have merged to the 210 west and would have access to areas such as San Dimas Canyon, Glendora Mountain Rd., Azusa Canyon and the East Fork area. All remote wilderness areas.

Now that he's in custody hopefully he'll talk and disclose her location. It looks like she has a young son who's going to miss his mommy.
