One month later, few answers in case of missing Roanoke baby

One month after a Roanoke baby went missing, there are still very few answers.

Roanoke police say the investigation into the disappearance of Arieanna Day is one of their highest priorities. October 11th marks one month since she was reported missing. Her name has been added to the statewide list of missing children.
31-year-old Andrew Christopher Terry, of Roanoke, has been arrested and charged in connection with the illegal disposal of a body.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward, and say that "no piece of information is too small."

In a written statement, Roanoke Police Capt. Stephen Keatts said, "Her family deserves answers. This is an incredibly difficult time for her family."

'He took her'; Family of Arieanna Day still waiting for answers on her disappearance

The family of missing 3-month-old baby Arieanna Day want answers a month after she disappeared from her home in Roanoke.

Sophia Bryant, Arieanna's grandmother, says investigators aren't sharing much information on leads with her at this point.

But, she says she's not giving up on her granddaughter.

Bryant says she believes with all her heart that he's responsible for why her granddaughter is gone.

"He took her," Bryant said. "He played a part of it. He didn't want her. he didn't want to pay child support. He made threats. So he had every motive to take that baby."

Investigators have said that at this point, the search is a recovery effort.

Bryant tells ABC 13 that investigators asked her daughter, the baby's mom, to take a polygraph test.

She says her daughter would never hurt Arieanna, and that she is cooperating with investigators.

'Where's her body?' Father admits he buried missing 3-month-old, body still not found

The father of a three-month-old, believed to be dead, was in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing on a charge of illegal disposal of a body.

Terry told investigators he had been arguing with his child's mother.

Video played in court Thursday showed Terry speaking with investigators, telling them he took the child, who he said was bruised and barely breathing, and drove for about 20-30 minutes.

He said she died sometime after he started driving and he dug her a shallow grave.

When asked why he didn't take the infant to the hospital, he said he was afraid.

The judge ruled that the commonwealth presented enough evidence to send his concealment case to a grand jury.

Father of missing Roanoke baby indicted by grand jury

Andrew Terry, who is charged with illegal disposal of a body in connection with a missing Roanoke baby, was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday.

A judge ruled in October that there was enough evidence in the case to send it to a grand jury.

Terry is scheduled for trial on March 13, 2019 at 9 a.m.

Father indicted for concealing body of missing 3-month-old daughter

A man who admitted to burying the body of his three-month old has been indicted by a grand jury.

Andrew Terry was arrested and charged for illegally dumping a body in September after Arieanna Day went missing.

According to the Montgomery County Circuit Court, he is now indicted for concealing the dead body.

His trial is set to begin on March 13.

Missing girl would have turned 1 year old today

An infant girl reported missing on September 11th, 2018 would be turning one year old today.

Arieanna Day was three months old when she was reported missing from her home last year. According to search warrants, Arieanna's mother laid the child down for bed on the night of September 11th and when she returned to the room an hour later, the child was gone.

On September 12th, Andrew Terry, who search warrants revealed is the biological father of Arieanna, was arrested and charged with transporting and concealing a dead body.

Terry is scheduled to appear in court on May 29th. His trial date is expected to be announced at that time.

A body has not been recovered, but police officials have previously said that Arieanna is presumed dead.

One year later, still no sign of missing Roanoke baby Arieanna Day

Police confirmed that Terry is a suspect and Jessica Day is a person of interest. Deputies say they're using new DNA forensics to examine evidence collected during their search. But investigators with Montgomery County later reporter to WDBJ7 that the analysis did not lead them any closer to Arieanna's body.

In January of 2019, Andrew Terry was indicted by a Grand Jury in Montgomery County for his charges. He was scheduled to appear in court in March. That appearance was rescheduled for May 29 where he was to face a bench trial. He instead opted for a jury trial which he will face on September 25.

On this anniversary of her disappearance, no details form police, just a promise in the form of a statement which reads:

"September 11th is a day of remembrance across the nation, but for our community, this September 11th also marks one year since Arieanna Day disappeared. Arieanna was last seen in her home in Roanoke by her mother. She is missed by her siblings and the rest of her family, who have remained hopeful for Arieanna's safe return.

Investigators remain dedicated to bringing Arieanna home. We continue to follow up on every lead and have regular communication with members of the Day family, who have been cooperative. We will continue to investigate and to allocate resources until Arieanna is found.

As we continue our efforts to bring Arieanna home, we again ask members of our community for any information that may assist us in our search for Arieanna. We are now asking members of the community who know Andrew Terry or Jessica Day to contact us at (540) 853-2212."

Hung jury leads to mistrial in case of missing Virginia baby

    • By The Associated Press
    ROANOKE, Va. — Sep 27, 2019, 2:40 AM ET

A deadlocked jury has led to a mistrial in the case of a Virginia man charged in the disappearance of his 3-month-old daughter.

News outlets report Andrew Christopher Terry's trial on a charge of concealing a body ended Thursday. The case is fraught with changing testimony, and authorities still haven't recovered the body of Arieanna Day, who vanished last year.

Arieanna's mother, Jessica Day, testified she repeatedly lied to police, saying at different times that Arieanna was kidnapped by an adoption agency, smothered while breastfeeding and given away to Terry's cousin.

She said Thursday that Terry actually took away Arieanna. Terry previously admitted, recanted and admitted again to burying Arieanna. Defense attorney Angi Simpkins questioned if Arieanna had actually died.

Prosecutor Mary Pettitt says she hasn't decided on a retrial.

Police believe new search of Andrew Terry’s cellphone will ‘produce vital information’

More than a month after the case of a Blacksburg man charged with concealing the body of his 3-month-old daughter ended in a mistrial, police are asking to search for more evidence.

The Roanoke Police Department is requesting an additional search on Andrew Terry’s cellphone using “updated cellular forensic technology,” according to a search warrant filed on Nov. 13, 2019.

The warrant goes on to say that police believe a new search of the phone with this new technology “will produce vital information as to the location in which the body of (A.R.D 5/29/2018) was placed.”

Terry previously admitted to burying the baby near Jennelle Road after he picked her up bruised and barely alive from her mother’s house in Roanoke, according to prosecutors.

On Sept. 26, Terry’s case ended in a mistrial, leaving him a free man.
