Belinda Williams snatched from bed, murdered as cops finger suspect she knew

    December 12, 2014

DETECTIVES investigating the death of a young mum who vanished into the night after lying next to her young daughter believe she was killed by someone she knew.

There’d been no inkling bubbly separated mum Belinda Williams feared anybody or was worried for her safety in the lead up to her death.

But maybe she should have been fearful.

“The offender is believed to be known to Belinda,” Acting Det-Insp Boris Buick, of the Victoria Police cold case squad, told the Herald Sun.

“Investigators have a suspect in mind (but) evidence is lacking.”

Eleven days after Ms Williams disappeared, a pair of local bushwalkers discovered her body, dressed only in a nightshirt, dumped in scrub on Mt Buninyong

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

There are just so many 'unsolved' cases in this cases in this country, where police pretty much know who did the crime but just don't have enough evidence to bring the killer to trial. Poor Belinda, and her little girl who grew up without her mum. Here's hoping justice comes for them soon.

Same here, really. :( My GF lives this nightmare with her daughter and granddaughter missing. There is a POI, but they can't move forward.

Just a bump for Belinda, with the good news that her case is among the 8 chosen by our cold case squad to offer one million dollars for information leading to the arrest of her killer.

Hopefully, this will encourage somebody to come out of the woodwork, so there finally be some justice for her.

Belinda Williams' family call for information on the 20th anniversary of her murder

WHEN a person is murdered, the victim's life is callously cut short, but there are also a host of indirect victims who are affected by a loss that never fades.

This week, June 25, marks 20 years since Belinda Williams - a beautiful and doting 36-year-old mother - was killed, believed to be in her Buninyong home, while her six-year-old daughter, Mietta, slept.

Nobody has ever been charged with the crime and the multitude of questions and lack of answers has haunted her friends and family in the two decades since.

Police have questioned dozens of people as the years have ticked by, to no avail. A $1 million reward leading to a break in the case remains in place.

The family feels no closer to receiving answers, rather, they feel like they are further away, so they are again appealing to the community - to any witnesses, anybody with information pertaining to the case or to the murderer themselves, if they have a conscience - to contact police.

"If you know something, come forward. Don't think that the information is already known by police," Mr Watchorn said.

Ms Macey, now in her 80s, lies in bed each night, trying to solve the mystery of who killed her daughter.

If you know something about the murder of Belinda Williams contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
