Fighting back tears, the man told KTLA the first thing he thought of when they made the grim discovery was his own children. He became overcome with emotion at that point and the interview ended.

sounds like this man had a bigger reaction to this childs death than her own mother.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials announced 38-year-old Emiel Hunt has been arraigned on one count of first-degree murder, reported WLS-TV.

According to the DA’s office, Hunt is accused of killing Trinity on or around March 1. Hunt, who was also convicted of child abuse in San Diego County in 2005, was arrested on Saturday, March 9 after investigators found him sleeping in his vehicle near San Diego International Airport, sheriff's investigators told reporters.

During Hunt’s first appearance in court, Trinity’s family members couldn’t contain their anger.

"Trinity was trapped with a monster," said the victim’s uncle Jamiel. "Nobody knew."

Barbara Jones, Trinity's grandmother, said she felt “enraged” seeing Hunt in court.

“I felt like a monster. I wanted to do to him what he did to her, what's alleged he did to her,” Jones told WLS-TV.

Trinity's mother, Taquesta Graham, was also detained as a "person of interest" in the case and was being held on $2 million bail, reported KTLA. Graham is in custody on a previous warrant unrelated to the case.

Graham is a registered sex offender and was convicted in 2009 of enticing a young girl for prostitution, according to the Megan's Law website.

Last week, park workers found Trinity Love Jones' body inside a duffel bag that had been dumped near an equestrian trail.

One of the workers, who wishes to remain anonymous, said they were trimming trees when they discovered the bag.

"We seen the little girl's head, but at that point, we thought it was a little boy because you couldn't really see, like, everything," he told KTLA. "She was covered up with grass, like the bush was kind of covering her hair, and then she was wrapped up in a blanket, and she was stuffed in a duffel bag."

Hunt is currently being held on $2 million bail. If he is found guilty, Hunt faces a possible maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison.

Woman whose 9-year-old daughter was found dead in duffel bag in LA likely to face charges

The California woman whose daughter was found dead in a duffel bag this month near a popular hiking trail was extradited from Texas on Thursday, as officials prepare to name her in the girl’s homicide case.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Tequesta Graham was arrested in Texas on March 8 on an unrelated warrant after she was stopped at a border checkpoint. Police said they were unaware of the criminal investigation into the death of her daughter, 9-year-old Trinity Love Jones, at the time of her arrest.

Investigators preparing criminal case against mother of girl found dead in duffel bag

The mother of the 9-year-old girl whose body was found in a duffel bag, has been extradited to Los Angeles where investigators are preparing a criminal case against her, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

It's unclear if and what kind of charges the 28-year-old mother, Taquesta Graham, may face. She has not been charged yet in the case of her daughter, Trinity Love Jones, but a "criminal case naming Taquesta Graham is being prepared for presentation to the District Attorney's Office on a later date," the LA County Sheriff's Department said in a press release.

It's not clear if Graham has legal representation at this time.

On Thursday, she was extradited from Texas to Los Angeles and is being held in the custody of the LA County Sheriff's Department on an unrelated warrant.

"She was subsequently interviewed regarding her daughter's murder," the sheriff's department said.

Last Friday, Graham and her boyfriend, Emiel Lamar Hunt, 38, had been stopped at a border patrol check point in Texas. Graham was arrested on an unrelated warrant, and Hunt was released and continued driving back to California, according to the LA County Sheriff's Department.

Meanwhile, authorities said, tips from the public led investigators to believe the body they found could be that of Trinity and police were already looking for Hunt and Graham to question them.

Booking Photo Released of Mother of Girl Found Dead in Duffel Bag in Hacienda Heights as Police Ask for More Information

While asking for additional information on the case, police on Tuesday released a booking photo of a mother who was arrested on suspicion of killing her 9-year-old daughter whose body was found in a duffel bag at the bottom of an embankment in Hacienda Heights.

Taquesta Graham, 28, was booked Monday on Murder charges in the killing of Trinity Love Jones. Her boyfriend, Emiel Lamar Hunt, 38, was charged with murder on March 12 in connection with the killing, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The mother had been held on an unrelated warrant as detectives investigated her involvement with the killing, officials said.

Graham and Hunt were detained at a border crossing in Texas on March 8, and the mother had been in custody ever since, according to authorities.

Hunt served more than a decade in prison after being convicted of abusing his own son in San Diego County in 2005, sheriff’s Detective Marc Boisvert said.

Workers discovered the child’s body down the side of an embankment along Hacienda Boulevard, south of Colima Road on March 5, authorities said.

Grieving grandmother of nine-year-old girl whose body was found stuffed into a duffel bag weeps over her coffin at her emotional funeral service after the child's mother and mom's boyfriend are arrested for her murder
    • Mourners gathered for the funeral service of Trinity Love Jones, the 9-year-old girl whose body was found this month stuffed in a duffel bag
    • Diana Wilson, her grandmother, wept over Trinity's coffin during the emotional service
    • Catholic, Protestant and Buddhist clergy led the 'memorial of light' service at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Hacienda Heights
    • Trinity's mother Taquesta Graham, 28, and Graham's boyfriend, Emiel Hunt, are charged with her murder

Most had never met her, didn't even know her name until they saw it on the news.

But moved by the tragic death of a 9-year-old girl whose body was found stuffed into a duffel bag and discarded on a hillside trail - like so much trash, as one mourner put it - people turned out by the hundreds Monday for an at-times joyous, at other times angry and frustrated interfaith service celebrating the life of Trinity Love Jones.

They all but filled the pews of spacious St. John Vianney Catholic Church in the Los Angeles suburb of Hacienda Heights, just a couple of miles from where a park worker had found Trinity's body on March 5.

She was dressed in pants with a panda pattern and a pink shirt - her favorite color - that proclaimed, 'Future Princess Hero.'

California police have identified the girl whose body was found inside a duffel bag near an equestrian trail last week.

She was 9-year-old Trinity Love Jones, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. Trinity was a Los Angeles County resident.

A police sketch of the girl found in the bag (left) identified as Trinity Love Jones, age 9 (right).

Although the Coroner’s Office determined the death to be a homicide, the cause of death is being withheld,” the sheriff’s department said. “Investigators have detained two persons of interest in this case and they are actively continuing their investigation.”

After learning her identity, relatives arrived at a memorial to the girl — established where her body had been found in Hacienda Heights, CNN affiliate KTLA reported.

Antonio Jones told the news station that Trinity was his youngest daughter and had been “full of character, full of life, full of joy.”

“Words can’t explain what I’m feeling right now,” he said, according to KTLA. “I just want answers. I just want justice.”

The girl was found Tuesday morning in the area south of Hacienda Boulevard and Glenmark Drive, just below a Buddhist temple, according to police.

Her head and upper body had been protruding from the partially zipped roll-away black duffel bag.

Last week, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Hoglund said authorities believed the girl had been left the evening of March 3 in light brush by the trail. But it was not clear if she was dead or alive at the time.
