Vestavia Hills child missing since 2002 located in Ohio

Vestavia Hills police say that a child reported missing from the area since 2002 has been located in Ohio.

Julian Hernandez was reported missing by his mother in August 2002 when he was 5 years old. He is now 18.

It was suspected at the time that Julian's father, Bobby Hernandez, took the child.

The Cleveland Division of the FBI says they received a tip October 30 that a person living in the city could be a missing child from Alabama. Three days later, authorities confirmed that individual is Julian Hernandez.

A man has been arrested and charged in a serial shooting and robbery case that killed two people and wounded six others in Los Angeles over a three-year period, police announced Monday.

Patrick Watkins, 51, was arrested Thursday on two murder charges and 25 charges of attempted murder in the "Western Bandit" case, named for the street where some crimes occurred.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Watkins has an attorney. He was expected to have his first court appearance on Tuesday.

The latest of 23 crimes linked to the case was the fatal shooting of a 56-year-old man as he walked his dog on Dec. 8, 2014. The other killing linked to the case is the November 2011 fatal shooting of 32-year-old Cassidy Vickers.

Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said the same gun was linked to all the cases and was recovered during Watkins' arrest.

    Austin TX
Travis County judge Julie Kocurek shot in her home driveway

    Wounds do not appear life-threatening.
Police said the shooting was reported at 10:16 p.m. Kocurek had just returned home and was accompanied by others when she was shot, police Cmdr. Mark Spangler said. No one else with the judge was shot. A neighbor of Kocurek’s told the American-Statesman that she “just heard four pops.”
Most recently, the judge was overseeing the case of Mark Norwood, who was convicted in the infamous 1986 killing of Christine Morton and is now facing charges in the 1988 death of Debra Baker. She also was presiding over the case of Dara Llorens, who was arrested in Mexico for the 2002 kidnapping of her daughter, Sabrina Allen.

MUNFORD, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say human remains found in West Tennessee belong to a man who had been reported missing 14 years ago.

The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office says the remains were found March 31 near a road in Munford.

The sheriff’s office says the remains were sent to the FBI for examination, and the results showed they were identified as 24-year-old Demarco Antrell Hunter, of Memphis.

According to the initial missing person report, Hunter had dropped off a friend around 2 a.m. on May 7, 2001, but never returned home. Hunter was driving a blue 1991 Oldsmobile Delta 88, which was later found abandoned with the keys in the ignition and recently purchased food in the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the case as a homicide.

Man, 56, 'kidnapped co-worker and held her in his prison-like apartment' with hidden chambers, false doors and two-way mirrors before she made dramatic escape

A kidnapped woman's dramatic escape led police to a house of horrors in New Orleans, complete with hidden compartments, false doors and cameras behind two-way mirrors.

Apartment resident Mario Perez-Roque, 56, was arrested Friday evening on charges of kidnapping one of his co-workers, a 36-year-old Cuban national he tried and failed to court.

The unnamed woman was kidnapped from her home on Martinique Avenue in New Orleans earlier that same day, and taken to Perez-Roque's rear apartment in a shotgun home, where he held her before she was able to free herself and flee.

However, police believe two men were involved in the kidnapping, and are still searching for the second man.

Police say the victim worked with Perez-Roque and had turned him down when he expressed interest in dating her.

On Friday, Perez-Roque came to the woman's house on Martinique Avenue and kidnapped her, bringing her back to his apartment where he gagged her, placed a bag over her head and tied her to a chair inside the apartment.

The woman told police that at one point, she heard two men whispering in Spanish about leaving the apartment.

She was eventually able to free one of her hands and take the bag off her head to find that she was sitting directly across from a picture of herself.

Isn't this nice - His & her jail time?

    Riverview FL
A Tampa Bay area woman killed her husband's parents following an argument over an upcoming court date for their son. 30-year-old Marisol Best told detectives she became angry with the couple because they were negative about her husband's upcoming court date.... she retrieved a handgun from her vehicle, returned to the house and shot both victims... 70-year-old Virgil Best and 69-year-old Shirley Best.... the next day, she accompanied her husband to his parents residence where he discovered their bodies.

It is a story that began more than two decades ago. Robert Best, an Army veteran and graduate of East Bay High School, began getting arrested for a series of crimes — grand theft, burglary, arson, firing a gun into a building, among others. .. early 1990s he had landed a stint in state prison & began writing letters to a blind North Carolina woman. He romanced her, eventually persuading her to send him $1 million. ......When he got out in 1996, he spent almost all of the money — on homes, cars and other expensive items. Some things he kept. Others he gave as gifts to family and friends.
He gave his mother a Lincoln Town Car. After he was arrested again, Shirley Best speculated the theft was her son's attempt to make things right. "In a way he was trying to pay me back for all the heartaches he'd caused me," the mother told the St. Petersburg Times in 1996. "Only it caused more — but he had the right intention."

Robert Best went back to prison. In 2008, he married Marisol De La Cruz. She was 23 at the time. He was 42. In 2013, both became entangled in a sex crime investigation in Polk County. At the center of it was a suicidal 17-year-old runaway.....

By Thursday, the officer and Turley set up a meeting. He was selling two hours with the little girl for $1000, according to the allegations. They met at an apartment complex where the officer discovered the girl was much younger than 10.

"Lying in the small bed was a 4-year-old girl, identified as a juvenile," said a Harris County prosecutor as Turley stood before a judge, listening, in shame. The juvenile "appeared to be groggy and under the influence of an unknown substance and in and out of sleep."
