Feds takedown Boston's largest and most feared gang: More than 40 members of the Columbia Point Dawgs arrested on drug and gun charges

Federal authorities have announced that more than 40 people affiliated with Boston's largest and most-feared gang have been indicted on drug and gun charges.

The 48 people were either members or associates of the Columbia Point Dawgs, the criminal organization responsible for running a vast drug empire that stoked New England's heroin epidemic.

Forty-one have been arrested, while seven remain at large, said authorities at a news conference on Thursday.

'It's one of, if not the, largest gang take-downs that we've seen in Boston,' said Vincent B. Lisi, the Special Agent in Charge for the FBI Boston office.

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A memorial service was held in western Michigan for a woman whose remains were identified 34 years after they were found in a Louisiana parish.

Relatives of Carol Ann Cole held a committal Thursday at Maple Grove Cemetery in Comstock Township south of Grand Rapids. A memorial service followed at a Richland church.

"She was my best friend until I was 12 years old and then I spent 34 years without her, not knowing where she is," Cole's sister, Jeanie Phelps said after Thursday's services. "It was a struggle."

She placed a note in a box with the remains. It read: "I love you sister. I haven't forgotten you and never will."

Phelps had been raising money for a funeral since identification was made this year in the "Bossier Doe" case.

Cole moved from Kalamazoo to Texas with her mother in 1979. She was 17 when she disappeared in December 1980. Her body was found in January 1981 in a wooded area in Bossier Parish. She had been stabbed nine times.

The case was unsolved and she became known as "Bossier Doe."

GEORGE COUNTY -- An investigation into a murder of a transgender teen from Alabama began when the suspect, a convicted felon and longtime member of the Latin Kings street gang, told his father he'd killed someone, police reports show.

Josh Brandon Vallum, 28, made the admission on June 1, telling his father, Bobby James Vallum, that the person he allegedly killed could be found in a field behind his dad's house in the sparsely populated community of Rocky Creek, a report said.

A Missouri man, Anthony Brinkman, 32, pictured below, was arrested last week after he reportedly posted an ad on Craigslist seeking individuals to beat and rape his 11-year-old daughter.

Luckily, Brinkman was taken into custody shortly after making contact with an undercover police officer posing as an interested party. Police became aware of the ad after a Craigslist user flagged it for “abuse.”

Jodi Arias ordered to pay back victim's family

Alexander's family initially asked for about $100,000 in restitution, but Arias' attorney Jennifer Willmott says the family didn't receive the full amount because they didn't turn in all the necessary receipts.

Willmott says Arias most likely won't be able to make enough money in prison to pay back the family.

Rapper Rick Ross arrested on kidnapping, assault charges

Rapper Rick Ross is facing kidnapping and assault charges after a U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force and deputies arrested him at his mansion south of Atlanta early Wednesday, authorities said.

Ross and a man described as his bodyguard were taken into custody in Fayette County, Jim Joyner, a supervisor with the Marshals' Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, told The Associated Press.

Ross — whose real name is William Roberts — was being held in the Fayette County Jail on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated battery, Joyner said. The bodyguard, whose name wasn't released, faces the same charges.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say human remains found in Syracuse aren't related to a skull found about two miles away last week.

Onondaga County Sheriff's Office spokesman Detective Jon Seeber tells The Post-Standard of Syracuse (http://bit.ly/1RsyC5y ) that a man walking along railroad tracks found the remains Monday morning. Seeber says the remains have been there for "quite some time."

Investigators haven't identified the remains and are working to determine a cause of death.

Workers found a skull in a garbage bin behind a supermarket on Thursday. Investigators say the skull was human, but appears to be in an extreme state of decomposition.

    Both cases remain under investigation.
