Mom charged in death of 6-year-old girl

FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) — The mother of a 6-year-old Massachusetts girl found dead told her 9-year-old son not to call 911 and used super glue to close a wound on his neck.

Thirty-seven-year-old Shana Pedroso and 38-year-old Marvin Brito were charged with two counts of reckless endangerment of a child. Pedroso was separately charged with assault and battery, while Brito was charged with permitting substantial injury to a child. Both are being held without bail. A hearing is set for April 18.

The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later. Police said she had "extensive bruising" all over her body and the boy had bruising on his face and a neck wound. The boy told police that bullies attacked him and his sister the previous day when their parents left them unattended during a family walk. He also said his mother was angry at his sister Tuesday morning for not drinking.

Police say the children's mother kept notes saying the children were "bad," so they were "beaten," in an entry dated Monday.

Judge says torching victim can testify from beyond the grave at boyfriend's trial for her murder

A woman who died after being set on fire by her boyfriend will testify at his murder trial from beyond the grave.

Judy Malinowski, 33, died in August 2017, two years after being torched by her boyfriend Michael Slager outside a gas station near Columbus, Ohio, in June 2015 but recorded a video in hospital before she lost her fight for life.

Slager goes on trial for her murder in July, and in a rare move, a judge has allowed the interview Malinowski gave from her hospital bed to be heard by the jury. The judge ruled Friday.

7 Inmates Killed, 17 More Injured, in South Carolina Prison Violence

Seven inmates have been killed and at least 17 others seriously injured amid fighting between prisoners inside a maximum security prison in South Carolina.

Prisons spokesman Jeff Taillon announced the grim outcome after State Law Enforcement Division agents helped secure Lee Correctional Institution around 3 a.m. Monday.

Taillon said no officers were wounded after multiple inmate fights broke out at 7:15 p.m. Sunday. He said 17 of the injured required medical attention outside the prison. The South Carolina Department of Corrections tweeted that it involved multiple inmate-on-inmate altercations in three housing units.

The maximum-security facility in Bishopville houses about 1,500 inmates, some of South Carolina's most violent and longest-serving offenders. Two officers were stabbed there in a 2015 fight. One inmate killed another in February.

According to the Prison Director, the deadly riot was a gang-related dispute over money, territory and contraband, particularly cell phones.

All SCDC staff and responding law enforcement officers are safe and accounted for.

The incident was the deadliest in the United States in the past 25 years.

The incident at Lee CI resulted in 17 inmates requiring outside medical attention and 7 inmates were killed. The inmates who were killed have been identified:

    – Eddie Gaskins, 32, who was serving 10 years for first-degree criminal domestic violence
    – Joshua Jenkins, 33, who was serving 15 years for voluntary manslaughter
    – Corneilus McClary, 33, who was serving 25 years for first-degree burglary
    – Michael Milledge, 44, who was serving 25 years for trafficking crack cocaine
    – Damonte Rivera, 24, who was serving life without parole for murder
    – Corey Scott, 36, who was serving 22 years for kidnapping and armed robbery
    – Raymond Scott, 28, who was serving 20 years for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature

Sidney Moorer is serving time there after he was convicted of obstruction of justice in connection with the 2013 disappearance of Heather Elvis. Wonder if he was one of the 17 injured?

3 injured by 8-year-old in MN school knife attack

An 8-year-old boy at Pleasantview Elementary School came to school with a kitchen knife about 7:15 a.m. Monday and randomly attacked fellow students.

Interim Superintendent Bruce Watkins said the "second-grade student entered the building, put his backpack away, and pulled out a knife and struck three students." The incident continued for about five minutes before the student with the knife was stopped by “adult intervention.” Authorities did not know what had motivated the attack. Watkins declined to comment further about the 8-year-old due to student privacy rules.

Sauk Rapids Police Chief Perry Beise said the three students who were wounded were eight, nine, and 13 years old.

Chief Beise said all three children had "superficial wounds to be stitched up," but that there were no other injuries. He said two of the children were taken to the hospital by their own parents, and had been treated and released.

The chief said the eight-year-old attacker was in the school counselor’s office when police arrived, The Virginian-Pilot reported. He said the child was cooperating with authorities.

Parents of children attending Pleasantview received an electronic notice of the incident this morning. Watkins said classes were not interrupted, as the incident happened before school, and classes will continue as usual for the rest of the day.

Wow. These perpetrators are getting younger and younger. :(
Wishing the wounded children a speedy recovery.
Wonder why it took adults 5 minutes to intervene. Would the children have been alone in the classroom before class began?

Vehicle in Burbank With 3 Bodies Inside Matches Jeep Linked to Bakersfield Men Reported Missing

The vehicle in Burbank where three people were found dead matched the description of the Jeep seen in fliers for three missing men from the Bakersfield area, police said on Wednesday. The Jeep matched the description and make of the vehicle seen in fliers for three missing men from the Bakersfield area. The agency noted, however, that the identities of the bodies have not been confirmed by L.A. County coroner’s officials.

A missing persons flier posted to Facebook at noon on Tuesday said three individuals named JC Amiama, Lucas Amiama and Carlos Lopez were last seen traveling in a Jeep Patriot with Tennessee plates.

Authorities said they were treating the case as a homicide investigation.

I started a thread in the Missing forum for the 3 men. Looks like this is probably them and it will be a homicide case.
