Burfield lives near Brays Bayou. That is quite a distance from where her car was found. Her mother says Texas Equusearch has agreed to take this case.

    [...]

Her mother said, that along with help from police, she’s also hired a private investigator.

The investigator found out that three drug dealers were using the car to sell drugs. They also had her daughter’s phone.

Burfield’s mother said she got several text messages from her daughter’s phone and believes someone was texting her acting like her daughter so she wouldn't worry.

Thank you for the additional details, kdg. I couldn't find much info on Brittany's disappearance.
This does not sound good for Brittany. :(

    Dire development:
The investigator found out that three drug dealers were using the car to sell drugs.
For the last few days or longer? Many questions.

Wouldn't there be a video or some record of Brittany's car entering the toll road?

    Her mother's statement is heart-breaking.

Per Harris County District Clerk records our missing person has a 2015 Felony record of possession of a CS.

I don't know if the current events are related. And regardless, she deserves to be found. Hoping for the best.

Search intensifies for missing woman after her belongings are found at man's home in Third Ward

The search is intensifying for a Houston woman who has been missing for three weeks.

On Thursday, homicide detectives arrested Alex Jerome Haggerty, an acquaintance of Burfield, on an unrelated charge for choking a woman.

Investigators searched his home on Drew Street in Third Ward and said they found some of Burfield's clothes and other personal items in the yard.

EquuSearch volunteers used search dogs on Friday to sniff around a dilapidated, abandoned house on Drew Street across from the property where Burfield was staying before she disappeared.

Authorities tell ABC13 Brittany was living in a tent with Haggerty next to his aunt's house.

He was questioned about her disappearance.

"I think he knows more than he's telling me. But maybe he'll get a conscience today and we'll sit down again and maybe we'll get a little bit more information," said Houston Police Detective Ken Fregia.

Burfield's relatives say they had seen Haggerty driving her car. They tell ABC13 they are determined to know what happened to her.

"The hardest part is us not knowing. The very, very hardest part is spending two and a half weeks not knowing what's going on with my daughter," said Tricia Valentine, Burfield's mother.

EquuSearch volunteers say they are battling extreme heat to find Burfield, but they won't give up.

"Weather conditions are not on our side. One of our guys passed out and had seizures yesterday. We had to get an ambulance outside here," said EquuSearch's Tim Miller.

How awful for her mom. With 3 drug dealers involved the outcome of this seems very dark and grim unfortunately.

Oh no.... she was living in a tent with a loser. This poor girl was caught up in an unsavory lifestyle apparently. That is so sad. My heart hurts for her family. I am glad he is in custody....now if he would just start telling the TRUTH!!

Man charged in Brittany Burfield’s murder as police continue to search for victim’s body: court documents

Her body has yet to be found, but charges in the probable cause documents stated that Haggerty caused the death of Burfield by “intentionally and knowingly committing an act clearly dangerous to human life, namely, by shooting the complainant with a deadly weapon, namely, a firearm.”

It further reads that Haggerty caused her death by, “stabbing the complainant with a deadly weapon, namely, a knife.”

(No words, really...just grateful LE & TES aren't giving up on finding her remains.)

They have one of the clearly best circumstantial cases ever. At this point finding her remains is to help those who loved her try to cope and heal from this.
It is so beyond traumatic when someone you love is murdered. Everyone knows I went through it 3 times.... but my girls were brought home. Just not the way they should have been.
