Sheriff says body found in landfill was cut into ‘numerous pieces’

The body of a woman found in a Bartow County landfill was cut into “numerous pieces,” Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap said at a news conference Wednesday 8/15/2018.

A Bartow County sanitation worker found a dismembered body part 8/13/2018 while dumping a compact container at the landfill. Authorities recovered more. The pieces were packed into individual bags and placed in a container at the Cedar Creek Collection Center, a recycling facility in Cartersville. She had been there since Saturday.

There are no cameras at the recycling facility, but Millsap is hoping distinctive tattoos will help with identification The woman has two names tattooed on each of her shoulder blades. She also has a tattoo on her chest.

She is described as being between 5-foot-2 and 5-foot-6, weighing 150 pounds with brown or reddish hair. She is believed to be between 18 and 35 years old. Anyone with information is urged to call the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office at 770-382-5050 or the GBI at 706-624-1424.

Not an update, but an article from today. Looks like a full autopsy has not been completed yet.

Georgia authorities are hoping to identify a woman found cut into “numerous pieces” at a landfill through her distinctive tattoos. Police made the grisly discovery on Monday and say the woman’s body had been at the recycling facility in Cartersville, Georgia, since Saturday.

In a news conference on Wednesday, Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap said body pieces were packed into individual bags and then placed in a container at the Cedar Creek Collection Center.

"I've been doing this for almost 35 years, and I've never seen anything like this before," Millsap said, according to WAGA-TV. "She was cut into pieces, and they put all the pieces into individual bags and placed them in one dumpster."

“Fortunately for us, and I don't mean to sound macabre or anything like that, but fortunately all the parts were in one location, but in different bags,” the sheriff said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office plans to conduct an autopsy to determine who the body belongs to and cause of death.

Could it be Monique Figueroa from littlerock CA? She has names on each of her shoulder blades. Don't know about the other tattoos but whoever took her could have tattooed her to change her apperance...?

I think Monique may be worth submitting just because of the names on her shoulder blades.
But she does have a few tattoos listed that are not mentioned on the Jane Doe. And it sounds like something probably happened to her in California in 2015, so she may not have been able to end up in Georgia over 3 years later. But you never know.
    • She has the following tattoos: the letters "EST" on her left wrist, the year "1987" on her right wrist, the name "Jeff" in black cursive lettering on her left shoulder blade, the name "Jan" in black cursive lettering on her right shoulder blade, and three skulls in red and black ink on each of her shoulders.

Hi & welcome to Crimewatchers @AV.Jo :welcome:

On the plus side, I agree that Cartersville Jane Doe & Monique Figueroa match in appearance & vitals.
On the negative, wouldn't names or words or the more usual tattoos be among the first things LE would use to rule in or out in missing databases?

Seems strange the GBI posted a symbol that could mean bravery rather than the actual names on the woman's body?
Obviously, here are 2 women with the same ~ are tattooed names on shoulder blades a common thing?

I'm thinking the same person(s) who could identify this Jane Doe by the descriptions, are not coming forward because he/she/they are responsible for the death. As time goes by, family, friends, coworkers or neighbors may note the disappearance.

Tip Line Set Up To ID Body Found In Bartow Landfill

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office is stepping up its efforts to solve the homicide case of an unidentified woman whose remains were found Monday in the county landfill. On Friday, the office announced that it has opened a special telephone tip line for anyone with information on the case, and it released photos of tattoos found on the woman's body.

Millsap said his office has received and investigated hundreds of tips on the case, prompting the need for the separate phone number. The number is 770-387-5100.

It will usually be answered by criminal investigators, the sheriff said. If not, the caller can leave a voicemail with information. Callers don't have to give their contact information, but are encouraged to do so.

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — There may be a break in the case of a woman that was found in a landfill earlier in August.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, recent information has been released concerning a missing woman from West Virginia.

“Investigators from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office are working with state agencies to positively identify this victim,” he said.

Her cause of death is still under investigation and the sheriff's office set up a hotline due to the volume of tips they've received. They're now encouraging people to call this direct line: 770-387-5100.

They are also asking anyone who visited the compactor facility at 15 Cedar Creek Road on Saturday, Aug. 11 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to call the tip line.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap is also addressing rumors that the remains have been identified as Courtney DuBois, a woman reported missing in West Virginia. Posts are floating around social media stating that the woman's family has confirmed the body is that of the missing West Virginian.

The tattoo on her chest certainly seems to match. :(

Looks exactly like the one in the OP to me. You can see the flower on one side, ad the heart in the middle.

There’s no denying this...this is probably her. The tattoo itself has too much character for it to be something out of a tattoo parlor marketer book.

And if this is her, the artist didn’t do a good job on the forensic rendering of the face.
