Dallas boy was abducted by a man, girl tells police

A search continues for a toddler after a relative was taken into custody and questioned in connection to the case Wednesday afternoon.

Cedrick Jackson, 18-months-old, had recently been placed in the custody of his aunt, who called police Wednesday morning to report the toddler was missing, said Maj. Max Geron during a news conference.

The aunt told police that she put Jackson to bed at about 11 p.m. Tuesday night and woke up to discover him missing almost seven hours later at her condominium in Lake Highlands.

When she had last seen him he was wearing only a diaper.

Geron confirmed that a child inside the condo told Jackson's aunt that she saw someone that looked like a relative take the toddler from the home overnight.

She said she hid when she saw the man and didn't say anything until the next morning because she was afraid, police sources said.

That morning, the door of the condo was found unlocked.

Police identified the relative as a step-grandfather, who was located in Colleyville and questioned. Geron said the relative wasn't with Jackson when he was found. He's now in a Keller jail on unrelated charges.

According to police sources, there was a conflict between the relative and the aunt prior to Jackson's abduction.

"We still don't know who has the child or who took the child," Geron said of the continued investigation.

He said police have scoured the area around the Twin Creek condominiums, where the toddler was last seen. He also said both Jackson's parents and aunt were taken to Dallas police headquarters for questioning.

While Geron said the child said the man who entered the home looked like a relative, police are looking into the possibility of a second person of interest. The girl described the man as a black male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 170 to 180 pounds and about 47 years old.

"I will tell you at this point, we don't know if that suspect is the person who is in custody in Keller or we are looking for a separate suspect that happens to be that same description," Geron said.

FWIW, the AMBER Alert is not showing with NCMEC. But most news agencies are saying AMBER Alert. We'll see.

Cedrick may be in the company of an adult male. He was last seen wearing only a diaper and his hair is braided.

18-month-old boy at center of Amber Alert is dead, family and police sources say

Crystal Jackson, 18-month-old Cedric Jackson Jr.'s aunt, said police told her the boy was not alive.

"He's dead. He's gone," said Jackson.

It is not yet known how the boy died or where he was taken.

“We don’t know 100 percent of what happened,” Jackson said as she paused and began to cry, “but we all loved that baby. He was just the sweetest baby.”

Police identified the relative as a step-grandfather in the news conference.

Sources told us he is 47-year-old Harold Johnson. He was located in Colleyville and questioned. Geron said that Cedric wasn't with the man when he was found.

He's now in a Keller jail on unrelated charges.

What the hell happened here? Step-grandpa was pissed because little Cedrick was placed with the aunt? So if he can't have him no one can? Or did some unthinkable accident happen during his abduction?

Sources: Body Of Dallas 18-Month-Old Cedric Jackson Recovered At Landfill, Amber Alert Discontinued

Law enforcement sources tell CBS 11 News that the body of missing 18-month-old Cedric “C.J.” Jackson of Dallas has been recovered at a landfill. The Amber Alert for the missing child has also been discontinued.

Dallas police have not confirmed the boy’s death, but sources with the department said Thursday they believed the child was dead earlier in the morning before his body was found.

The boy’s body is believed to have been found at a landfill in Rowlett.

Thursday morning Dallas police issued a statement that said, in part, “We are planning a press conference sometime this afternoon to update all media on the progress of this investigation.”

AUNT'S BOYFRIEND ARRESTED IN DEATH OF 18-MONTH-OLD DALLAS BOY FOUND IN LANDFILL

A man accused in the death of an 18-month-old boy told police he regularly tightly swaddled the toddler because the boy once "made a mess" in the middle of the night with ketchup packets, arrest records show.

Sedrick Johnson, 27, faces a felony charge of injury to a child in the death of Cedric Jackson Jr., who was reported missing Wednesday morning.

Johnson was arrested Thursday afternoon shortly after Cedric's body was found dumped in a Rowlett landfill. Johnson is the boyfriend of Cedric's aunt.

The boy was “swaddled in his blanket on the floor, at the foot of the bed," Johnson told police, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

He said he swaddled the child nightly to restrict the toddler’s movements after ketchup packet incident, the arrest warrant says.

The child had only lived in the home since May 21, records show.

Johnson told detectives the boy started making noise at 12:30 a.m. When he unwrapped the toddler from his swaddle, Cedric started throwing up, court records show.

The man said he performed CPR for at least 30 minutes but Cedric did not wake up. Johnson told police he then took the boy's body to a dumpster in northeast Dallas, where he left the child, the warrant says.

The warrant alleges Johnson injured Cedric "by compressing his airways."

The dumpster was checked but it had already been emptied twice. Authorities later found Cedric's body in the landfill, police said Thursday afternoon at a news conference.

One of the children in the home said Johnson often wrapped the child too tightly. Cedric did not like being wrapped and “would always fuss and cry prior to bedtime,” the warrant says.

    Amber Alert
An Amber Alert was issued Wednesday night, about 12 hours after Cedric was reported missing. The alert was canceled at about noon Thursday.

"We don't know 100 percent of what happened," said Cedric's aunt, Chrystal Jackson, earlier Thursday.

The aunt had custody of the toddler after he was removed from his parents' home.

Jackson told police that she put her nephew in bed at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. While police said she initially told them she didn't notice Cedric was missing until the next morning, a search warrant states she woke up in the middle of the night and noticed both her boyfriend and the toddler were gone.

The aunt called Johnson to confront him about his and Cedric's whereabouts, according to the document.

Jackson also initially told police that a girl inside the condo told her she saw someone, who looked like a close family friend, take Cedric overnight. The girl said she hid and didn't say anything until the morning because she was afraid.

Maj. Max Geron said during a news conference Wednesday that a "person of interest" was in custody in Keller on unrelated warrants.

That person, Harold Johnson, is the father of the suspect police arrested on Thursday.

Geron said that when investigators spoke to the man, the toddler was not with him.

    Children removed from home
Six children have been taken from Johnson and Jackson's home and placed in foster care, said officials with Child Protective Services.

Two girls, 6 and 8, are Johnson's and Jackson's children.

The other four are Johnson's with another woman, officials said. Those children are two girls, 9 and 6, and two boys, 10 and 7.

Johnson has been arrested several times before, including for a pending misdemeanor family violence case.

In that case, Johnson is accused of biting his wife during an argument, court records show.

Johnson pleaded guilty to a 2010 felony charge of abandoning a child with the intent to return. He was sentenced to four years of probation, but that agreement was revoked in 2016, and he was sentenced to eight months in state jail, records show.

In that case, Johnson left his 4-month-old daughter home alone while he left to meet a sex worker. The baby was alone on a bed in between two pillows with a bottle, records show.

nold police he dumped the body of the toddler in a dumpster, warrants say.

This poor sweet baby. It's beyond my comprehension how these things happen in the first place and the fact that the perpetrator is someone who should be loving and caring for this sweetie. It's even worse that CPS placed Cedric in this home thinking it was safe. People failed this child repeatedly in his short life!

    Rest in peace little one.:bawling:
