Flight or suicide? Deer camp vandalism goes from strange to bizarre

Law officers searched Friday for a woman and her son whose family have become suspects in a string of vandalisms and arsons at deer camps in Bossier Parish -- trying to determine whether they jumped off a Red River bridge in a bizarre double suicide or had concocted a ruse in order to get away.

Sheriff's deputies from Bossier and Caddo parishes searched the Red River downstream from the Louisiana Highway 2 bridge where a family car was found Thursday evening with a note inside. At the same time, detectives conducted a search of the family home a few miles away. The missing people are Coty Wilson, 31, and his mother, Jennifer, 53, both of Cottage Grove Road in Bossier Parish.

They are the son and wife, respectively, of Gary Wilson, who is jailed on suspicion of involvement in the deer camp arsons and vandalisms case. Coty Wilson was free on bond after his arrest last week on charges he obstructed the investigation.

Ms. Wilson's car was found on the north Bossier Parish bridge about 6:40 p.m. Thursday, authorities said. People were seen checking on the vehicle but no one was seen jumping off the bridge and neither of the Wilsons was seen on the bridge, deputies said. The Wilsons were last seen at a convenience store in north Caddo Parish about 4 p.m. on Thursday, deputies said.

In addition to the note from Ms. Wilson in her car, a note from her son was found at another location, Davis said. He described the notes as "goodbye notes" and not suicide notes. We would not disclose the contents.

Bossier Sheriff's Office expanding river search for missing mother, son

Bossier Sheriff’s Office added more boats Monday to the search on the Red River for the missing mother and son from north Benton.

Deputies launched five boats Monday morning, to include two primary Marine Patrol boats, the Air Boat, and two Zodiacs, in their search for Jennifer Wilson, 53, and her son, Coty Wilson, 31, of the 300 block of Cottage Grove in Benton.

Deputies have been searching the Red River since last Thursday afternoon after passing motorists spotted a silver Chevrolet Impala abandoned on the top of the Highway 2 bridge around 6:40 on March 15. That abandoned vehicle belongs to Jennifer, and she and Coty were last seen around 4 p.m. last Thursday at a gas station in north Caddo Parish with that same vehicle. While the abandoned vehicle was found on the bridge, there have been no reports of anyone actually seeing Jennifer or Coty on the bridge. Bossier detectives did confirm there was a note from Jennifer in the vehicle and another note from Coty at another location, both which appear to be written as “goodbye” notes, but don’t appear to necessarily be suicide notes.

BPSO: Search continues for missing mother & son

Deputies with the Bossier Sheriff’s Office continued their search for a missing mother and her son.

Deputies say Jennifer Wilson, and her son, Coty Wilson allegedly jumped from the Highway 2 bridge in Plain Dealing last week.

Deputies launched from the old Cash Point boat launch this afternoon with the two Marine Patrol boats, an Air Boat, and two Zodiacs, and a patrol boat from Caddo Parish.

Tomorrow, teams will continue searching the Red River with some help from the sky, an aerial search plane, and a cadaver dog will ride in one of the boats on the Red River.

Bossier Parish authorities call search for missing mother, son 'bizarre'

An abandoned car, vague notes left at separate scenes, and a possible motive are all the evidence Bossier Parish sheriff's deputies have in their search for missing mother and son, Jennifer and Coty Wilson.

"This is a bizarre twist," Bossier Parish Sheriff Public Information Officer Bill Davis said. "This family has known to mislead already, which is why the father was arrested anyway, so everything we get were taking it at face value but were also looking at all avenues."

"We are hearing the pundits, we are hearing those on the outside who may suggest that, 'hey look, they're not in that water, they fled," Davis said. "If you have information about that, please let us know. Because while were investigating and looking for them in this river, our detectives are also looking elsewhere, their home their businesses, families in Arkansas south Louisiana and nothing substantiates that there anywhere but that river."

"Regarding that, that may say, 'well gee why would they jump over that?' we don't know, but that's where the evidence leads us, and it is our job to follow that evidence," Davis said.

Deputies are asking anyone with any information about where the Wilsons’ are, or anyone who witnessed them on the bridge March 15, is asked to call (318) 965-2203.

Yes. I think another car picked them up on that bridge. An arranged meeting. someone IMO is helping to hide them.

Bodies of missing Benton mother, son found in Red River: Bossier Parish Sheriff

The bodies of a mother and son were found in the Red River in Bossier Parish on Thursday (March 29), two weeks after the pair went missing when they jumped from a bridge on Highway 2, officials said.

Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington confirmed deputies found the bodies of Jennifer Wilson, 53, and her son, Coty Wilson, 31, both of Benton, shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The bodies were found after a two-week search of the Red River, and they were ultimately recovered about 12 miles south of the bridge the two are suspected to have jumped from.

"For the past two weeks, our deputies have been working tirelessly to find these two people," said Sheriff Whittington in a statement released Thursday. "The evidence pointed to them jumping into the river, and we were going to search until we located them."

The mother and son were found bound to each other by the wrist, according to KTBS-3.

"This has been a bizarre case and an unfortunate ending to the lives of two people," said Sheriff Whittington. "And while this tragic ending is not what any family and loved ones want to hear, finding their bodies hopefully brings some closure."
