Missouri police officer killed, 2 others wounded in shooting; suspect dead
    By Ryan Gaydos, Katherine Lam

A Missouri police officer who was killed while responding to a 911 call Tuesday night had just returned to full-time duty to replace a recently fallen officer in his department, officials said.

Clinton Police Officer Christopher Ryan Morton's death comes after at least 20 officershave died in the line of the duty since the start of 2018.

Morton, 30, was shot and killed when he and two other officers responded to a 911 call at a home located 75 miles outside of Kansas City, Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

He was the second officer killed in Clinton in 7 months. Clinton has a population of less than 10,000!

The first leg of Officer Morton's funeral procession, taking him from the KCMO medical examiners building to Clinton, is happening right now. Officers from all over are escorting him and the procession is MILES long. This is the second trip these officers have made in 7 months.

The person who made the mistake of sending him to the wrong address must feel horrible. :tears:

My understanding of it is that a computer does the initial routing of the call to the "proper" jurisdiction. That area is full of small towns and can have a lot of jurisdictions in a very small area. This was an open line 911 from a cell phone where the dispatcher could hear a disturbance happening. Nobody was talking from that line. Evidently the cell tracking was way off. How they came up with this particular address is the mystery.

After Florida deputies shot dead at Chinese restaurant, sheriff says law enforcement has been 'demonized'
"What do you expect happens when you demonize law enforcement to the extent it's been demonized?” Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz said at a news conference.
    by Corky Siemaszko / Apr.20.2018 / 12:03 PM ET / Updated 1:22 PM ET

The official story about how two Florida sheriff's deputies were gunned down in a Chinese restaurant shifted slightly Friday when a deputy standing in for Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz announced that they were shot inside the eatery — not through the window as officials had first reported.

"We know now that the assailant went inside the building and assaulted and killed them," said Lt. Scott Tummond, who works for the Levy County Sheriff's Office.

Tummond, who said he had a "work history" with one of the slain men, Sgt. Noel Ramirez of the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office, also confirmed that the suspected shooter, 59-year-old John Hubert Highnote, killed himself after fatally shooting the deputies.

Coward creep who assassinated 2 fine cops:

Killer's history shows a man with a series of petty brushes with the law and an anger management problem. John Highnote has a criminal history in Pinellas County, Florida, but it was an old one. In 1994, he was accused of misdemeanor criminal mischief, but the case was dismissed the following year. In 1978, he was accused of felony carrying a concealed weapon, but the charge was also dismissed. He appears to have led a reclusive life in later years. “Highnote’s home in Bell was a small, one-story structure with a no trespassing sign out front, plywood on the windows and shell casings in the front yard,” The Washington Post reported, adding that neighbors interviews did not know him.

Two Dallas Police Department officers and one security have been shot at a Home Depot store in north Dallas and all three are in critical condition, multiple sources told WFAA's Rebecca Lopez.

One of the officers is a woman, sources told WFAA.

The incident was still developing about 5 p.m. at the Home Depot at U.S. 75 and Forest Lane. Police were still searching for a suspect.

A police spokesman confirmed a "major incident" at the store and said it was still a "very active scene." No other details were being released.

More than a dozen police cars were still at the scene behind the store, near a line of trees. At least one person was being loaded onto an ambulance.

An officer with a police search dog was also on the scene, going into the wooded area. Armored police vehicles were seen driving toward the Home Depot on U.S. 75.
