Body discovered in parkland in Fawkner

    October 18 2016 - 8:05PM

A body found in parkland in Melbourne's north is yet to be identified, police say.

Police will await the results of a post mortem examination, but it is understood the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Council workers found the body while mowing grass alongside Mahoneys Road in Fawkner, near the Western Ring Road, about 11.50am on Tuesday.

Detectives were at the scene looking in bushes on Tuesday afternoon, but said the death was not believed to be suspicious.

The body was found about 100 metres from the back fences of properties abutting the parkland.

Investigators are exploring the possibility the deceased person is missing Humevale woman Debra Barbu, 57, according to Channel Seven.

Ms Barbu has not been seen since leaving the Northern Hospital in Epping on September 30. She was believed to have boarded a bus at the Pacific Epping shopping centre bus terminal.

She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved grey hooded top and camouflage pants.

Police hold concerns for her welfare due to a medical issue.

Mannequin of missing woman wearing a grey hoodie with peace signs is set up near her home as search to find her intensifies

    18 October 2016

Desperate police have gone to the bizarre step of setting up a roadside mannequin as the search for a woman who went missing last month continues.

Victorian woman Debra Barbu went missing after visiting the Northern Hospital in Epping at about 5.15pm on September 25 and police believe she then got on a bus at the Pacific Epping shopping centre.

The mannequin which was set up on Tuesday is positioned close to Ms Barbu's home in Thomastown and is wearing a gray hoodie with three black and white 'peace' symbols attached to the front, blue cargo pants and is donning a black cropped wig.

Police have set up the mannequin along with an information caravan in the hopes of 'jogging' people's memories as the search enters its fourth week.

Police had previously searched the woman's home and hold grave fears for her as she suffers from a medical condition.

Debra is described as 160cm tall with a slim build and messy collar length hair.

Anyone who sees Debra is urged to contact the Epping Police Station on 03 9409 8100

Ms Barbu, 57, was reported missing on September 25 after walking out of Northern Hospital in Epping during an admissions process, leaving her mobile phone, credit card and wallet behind.

Police would have known it was her when the body was first discovered but they'd have to confirm it and notify relatives.
