Effort to find missing woman renewed

It’s been just a little more than two years since 19-year-old Emily Lynn Hieber suddenly went missing. Despite the case no longer being actively investigated, her family is not giving up hope that she will come home alive.

Private Investigator Dave McDowell, who the family recently hired, said the Hiebers have created a Facebook page, which they have named “Help Us Find Emily Hieber,” that is dedicated to the effort of helping to locate Emily.

“We are trying to evoke an emotional response from people. Somebody has to know something. People know what happened and where Emily is, and that is what we are trying to find out,” McDowell said. “We have been trying to develop new information and do things that can spark interest in the case and develop new leads for the police department.”

    Search continues for missing Yuman

Another holiday season has arrived and is passing. This is a time for families to celebrate with and embrace each other. What should be happy and joyous occasion’s is not for all families. One family in Yuma, that of Emily Hieber, has seen another year of birthdays, special occasions and holidays go by without knowing what has happened to their daughter, granddaughter, sister and niece.

Throughout our investigation we have developed numerous leads and are continuing to check each and every one out thoroughly. We know there are people who know where Emily is. Some remain silent out of fear or plain apathy.

There is critical information in our community that would help us find Emily. Public assistance and cooperation is one of the most powerful tools available in any investigation. I ask anyone who has information to come forward and provide us with the information to solve Emily’s case. Please contact me at 928-750-5630. There is a Facebook page “Help us find Emily Hieber” in which you may send private messages with the information. You can contact the Yuma Police Department at 928-373-4700 or 78-CRIME and leave the information anonymously. There is a $15,000 reward for information leading to the discovery of Emily.

New details in local teens disappearance

It’s been three years since a local teen disappeared and her family is still searching for answers.

Throughout the last three years, investigators have conducted dozens of interviews and have followed leads in Arizona, California, and across the border, but Emily Hieber is still missing without a trace.

Finding Emily Heiber: Emily's 25th Birthday

December 10th marks Emily Hieber's 25th birthday. A young woman who was reported missing in 2013 from Yuma County.

13 On Your Side spoke with Jenny Heiber, the mother of Emily, who said it gets difficult every year with the thoughts of not knowing where her daughter is.

"I feel like it's not really a celebration or anything like that, so I always like to stay home," said Jenny. "I normally like to stay at home and make her favorite dinner, spaghetti, and I just spend it with my husband and my daughter and my grandson."

Now on what is her 25th birthday, the family still has hope.

"I think about her all the time," said Jenny. "She should be here, celebrating with her family."

Dave McDowell, the family's private investigator, said information continues to pour in but is sure someone locally could know the truth.

"I have no doubt in my mind that we talked to people who know what happened," said McDowell.

"It's a matter of trying to get those people to give us the information that is going to lead in discovering where Emily is."

Regardless of the number of leads or theories they've received, it doesn't get easier for the Hieber family who wonders where Emily is every day.

If there is any information you might know of Emily Heiber, you are urged to contact the Yuma Police Department, remain anonymous by calling 78-CRIME, or contacting Dave McDowell at 928-750-5630.

Someone out there knows what happened to Emily Hieber

According to a study by home protection company, VivintSource.com, Arizona ranks second for most open missing person cases.

Even still, there aren't many missing person reports out of Yuma, which is why the Emily Hieber case is rare.

It's been more than six years since the disappearance of the Yuma teen, but that's not stopping the family from looking for her.

The family has faith in their private investigator, Dave McDowell, who has spoken to hundreds of people while investigating this case.

McDowell said, “I am confident that I have talked to people who know exactly what happened. The trouble is trying to get those people to come forward and go on record and tell the truth.”

Hieber has been linked to over a hundred locations between Yuma and Imperial County and McDowell established one common pattern saying, “We know for sure that she was involved with a lot of people who were heavily into meth. Who not only sell, they traffic and use meth.”

McDowell is also following other possible leads pointing to theories that he said involve anything from that Emily was murdered, taken to Mexico, involved in human trafficking, or being held against her will.

Although McDowell gets new leads almost weekly, the fact of the matter remains they still lack clear convincing evidence to figure out exactly what happened to Emily Hieber.

McDowell has no doubt that Emily Hieber's disappearance is related to someone she’s familiar with.

That’s what gives her family hope that one day they’ll have an answer.

If anyone has any information to help further the investigation, the family asks messages to be directed to the Facebook page titled, "Help Us Find Emily Hieber".
