Aspiring comedian identified as woman found dead at Melbourne soccer field

The body of a woman found dead at a soccer pitch in Melbourne's inner-north has been identified as aspiring comedian Eurydice Dixon, who was walking home from one of her shows. The 22-year-old's body was discovered by a passer-by in Princes Park several hours later. A 19-year-old Broadmeadows man has been charged with one count of murder and one count of rape after he turned himself into police. Detectives say the pair were not known to each other and are adamant the death is not related to a nearby sexual assault in March.

Everything we know about the 22-year-old woman killed in a Melbourne park.

    June 14, 2018

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the body of a young woman was found on a Melbourne soccer field between Royal Parade and Princes Park Drive at Carlton North.

When she was found, paramedics were called to the scene but were unable to revive her.

On Thursday afternoon, the victim was identified as 22-year-old comedian Eurydice Dixon. The night she died, Dixon had performed a comedy set at the Highlander Bar in Melbourne, leaving the venue just after 10.30pm. Police allege that between the hours of 11pm and when she was found, Dixon was attacked and killed by a man she did not know.

Hours before Dixon’s identity was released, a 19-year-old man, who has not yet been named, was charged with rape and murder. He had turned himself into police at Broadmeadows police station on Wednesday night, after CCTV images of a man in a grey hooded jumper were circulated by the media.

Police cannot yet say whether Dixon was murdered where her body was found, or whether she was moved after the attack. They haven’t established a timeline for the alleged murder, and are urging anyone who may have been in the area early in the day to contact police.

This is almost local to me.

Eunice was not much older than my daughter.

... too close, on a lot of levels.

'No inkling': Accused murderer Jaymes Todd's father speaks out
    Send via Email
The father of accused killer Jaymes Todd has described how his shocked family is struggling to comes to terms with his son's arrest and had "no inkling" Jaymes could allegedly be connected to the Carlton North attack.

Jason Todd told The Age on Friday his family was stunned when told the 19-year-old had been charged with the rape and murder of aspiring comedian Eurydice Dixon.

Mr Todd handed himself in to Broadmeadows police station late on Wednesday night.

He faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday where his lawyer told the court he had been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and was "socially regressive".

His father, who runs a local poker league, told The Age he hadn't spoken to his son since he went to the police station.

He said he was not aware of the arrest until after his son had turned himself in.

"I was in hospital, I didn't even know it happened," he said.

Jason offered his condolences to the Dixon family.

Young and old gathered to pay their respects.

As the white neon floodlights were switched off, plunging the thousands gathered at Princes Park on a brisk winter night into darkness, the flicker of thousands of candles shimmered into view.

Melburnians stood together in the warm glow, gathered in a tight circle around an ever-growing makeshift memorial of flowers and notes, to remember Eurydice Dixon.

A beautiful young lady who wanted to make the world a better place with laughter. This is a heartbreaker.
