Altoona family asks for help finding missing woman

    by Katie O'Toole

Fawn Mountain has been missing for roughly five years, according to her family, and this week her family took to social media to ask the public for help in finding her.

ALTOONA -- Fawn Mountain has been missing for roughly five years, according to her family.

This week, her family took to social media to ask the public for help in finding her.

Bridgette Gill, Fawn Mountain's cousin, posted a picture of her on Facebook this week, with a caption saying "Please help."

She that she had lost touch with the family and only recently heard that her cousin was gone.

"I wanted to just make the community aware that she was missing because a lot of people weren't even aware," she said.

Her Facebook post included "#bringfawnmariehome" and as of Friday afternoon, had about 1,000 shares.

"I think that's lifted my spirits a lot," she said. "Since I got involved with this, I felt very frustrated and at a loss as to what I could do because it wasn't going anywhere, so I think this has really given me a lot of hope that people are aware and now they're discussing it. This was a discussion that was simply not happening, and now it is."

Fawn Mountain's mother, Dorothy Mountain, described her daughter as "sweet and lovable," adding that this past five years have been difficult for her and the family, not knowing where she could be.

"She'll do anything for anybody," she said.

After the post circulated on social media, state police sent out a news release, which Trooper David McGarvey said they had been planning to do at some point since their investigation began.

The release said Fawn Mountain had been reported missing to the Greenfield Township Police Department in April 2015.

In May 2017, state police took over the investigation, according to the release. McGarvey said that it's common for state police take over missing person investigations for small municipalities.

The last documented time Fawn Mountain was seen was in November 2012 at her home on Binks Mill Court in Claysburg, according to state police.

The release said that she was 25 years old when she went missing. Police describe her as 5 feet 2 inches tall, 105 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. Her family said that her hair is actually red.

It also said that she has a large tattoo on her back, described as angel wings with the words, "RIP Kaydin."

Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to contact state police in Hollidaysburg.
