1971 - Galloway Township, New Jersey

On December 6, 1971, three hunters found the skeletal remains of this teenaged girl in the woods off of Jim Leeds Road near milepost #42 of the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township, New Jersey. She was estimated to have been dead for several months when she was found.

She is officially estimated to have been between 12-18 years old, but she was likely on the younger side of the range - closer to age of 12-14.

She was petite at about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed around 115 pounds. Her hair was possibly auburn and shoulder length.

She was wearing a blue ribbed polo shirt, bell bottom slacks with multiple colored vertical stripes, and brown leather sandals. She also wore a wide leather band bracelet with small brass eyelets all around the band. Attached to the bracelet through some of the eyelets was a small watch. The watch did not appear to have been originally attached to the leather band but secured separately.

Inside her pants pocket was a key to a local motel along the Garden State Parkway.

45 years after her remains were discovered, this girl remains UNIDENTIFIED. (by Carl Koppelman)

    some considerations:

Denise missing in 1970 after running away from her NY home http://www.nampn.org/cases/sheehy_denise.html

Helen, a frequent hitchhiker from British Columbia http://www.nampn.org/cases/frost_helen.html

Niki who ran away from home in Oregon in 1969 to try and make it on the north east coast in NY http://www.nampn.org/cases/britten_niki.html

Cynthia Dawn Constantine, who I think is a very good match if not the most fitting, went walking along railroad tracks with her dog at 15 years old in NY state and never returned home http://www.nampn.org/cases/constantine_cynthia.html - she looks a good bit like the UID.

here is a picture of Cynthia Dawn Constantine next to the Jane Doe. Bare in mine the reconstruction was based off of skeletal remains.

if she isn't listed on the rule outs for the jane doe I am going to submit her as a potential match.

December 6, 1971-Galloway Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey
Updated about 4 months ago · Taken in Galloway, New Jersey
She was only a child. 12-18 years old, but likely on the younger side closer to 12-14. She had been deceased for several months prior to the discovery of her body. She had to have parents. She had to have somebody in this world who missed her and looked for her. So why does a child this young remain in a grave marked unknown? Why does she remain unclaimed after all these years.

Here is what we know about her.
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - After nearly 38 years, retired police investigator Edward Hepburn is still haunted by the sight of teenage girl's decomposed body and the lingering questions about who she was and how she died.
"I (contacted) every single newspaper I could find," Hepburn said Wednesday. "We got hundreds of tips and eliminated a lot of them, but never came up with a suspect or identified her. ... I never would have thought there were that many young girls missing in the country in 1971, not in my wildest dreams."
Hepburn handled the investigation into remains found Dec. 6, 1971, by a trio of hunters in a wooded area off the Garden State Parkway and Jimmie Leeds Road in Galloway Township. Hepburn was a detective lieutenant when he left the Galloway Police Department for the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office seven years later.
The 76-year-old retiree and three current Galloway officers met Wednesday with reporters in an effort to revive the case upon getting new, more accurate estimations of what the girl might have looked like.
"Because of the length of time the case has been dormant and (the fact that) the unidentified victim could be from anywhere, we decided the best thing to do would be to hold a press conference," Chief Patrick Moran said.

From the way I am reading this, it sounds like she was found on the edge of the Parkway, not the edge of Jimmie Leeds Rd. The ramp in this photo is exit #41 at Jimmie Leeds Rd.. That means she was found in those woods beyond the top of the picture. It also means that it probably wasn't a trucker who picked her up at a truck stop, because large trucks aren't allowed on the Garden State Parkway. It was someone in a car.
