Human remains found in a reservoir near Newport in Wales could be those of a woman who was meant to be travelling to Folkestone before she was murdered by her husband 20 years ago.

Sandie Bowen went missing from her home in Llandogo, Monmouthshire, in August 1997. Her husband Michael Bowen was charged and convicted of her murder in 1998 - but he refused to reveal what he did with her body.

On Wednesday Gwent Police confirmed they were investigating reports from a member of the public about suspected human remains found in Wentwood Reservoir.

Mrs Bowen's daughter, Anita Giles, has told the South Wales Argus the human remains "could be" her mum.

Gwent Police recovered the human remains for the purposes of identification and have since confirmed the body has been identified as a female. Police said specialist teams are now working with officers to identify the body.

Miss Giles told the Argus: "I don't know much but all I know is what police told me when they called.

"They told me that it could be my mum but we don't know at this point."

The man who caught evil Christopher Halliwell believes items found near one of his victims could link him to a string of other cases.

Taxi driver Halliwell, 52, is serving life for killing clubber Sian O’Callaghan, 22, and Becky Godden-Edwards, 25.

Now former detective Steve Fulcher, 51, has backed research into other murders by “cold case” expert Chris Clark.

He claims there are strong “evidential links” to the Halliwell killings which police should investigate.

And he wants the Wiltshire force to look at the 60 alleged “trophy” items linked to Halliwell which were found in 2014.

Two articles of clothing in the haul have been identified and have links to Sian and Becky.

Mr Fulcher is liaising with Mr Clark, 71, who has produced a detailed list of unsolved slayings.

Mr Fulcher said: “The immediate and obvious source of linked evidence is the 60 items of women’s clothing found, together with a shotgun, at Ramsbury in May 2014.”

Mr Fulcher wants the haul to be shown to other murder victims’ relatives and checked for any DNA matches.

He added: “Should an evidential link be found, we would be well on the way to clearing up these cases.”

Mr Clark said: “Halliwell’s trophy hoard could well be the key to solving many of these murders.

    • State investigators are seeking to verify the claims about dozens of victims of the sinister pair from Krasnodar who were detained after seven bags of body parts were found in their fridge and freezer.

At least one jar with pickled human remains, and 19 slices of skin were also discovered in the macabre flat.

Many cans with steamed meat were found in their kitchen,

    • Alleged cannibal Natalia Baksheeva made 'pies' of suspected human meat and supplied them to local restaurants, it has been claimed.

The 42 year old and husband Dmitry Baksheev, 35, are detained amid urgent police investigations into her confession that the couple killed and ate 30 or more victims.

Cut-up human remains were found in their fridge and freezer, and elsewhere in their home at a hostel in a military academy in Krasnodar, southern Russia.
One victim was waitress Elena Vashrushev, 35, who lived close to Natalia and her husband. Others are feared to be women who joined dating websites before vanishing.
Neighbours say former nurse Natalia made and sold pies to boost her income, boasted to cafe owners that she could supply 'meat' and may have worked as a chef.

'I bake pies,' she told one local. Asked what she filled them with, she replied: 'Whatever is around.

It was a chance discovery of a cellphone on a street that led investigators in the southwestern Russian city of Krasnodar to arrest a husband and wife, dubbed by local media the “cannibal couple,” suspected in one of the worst killing sprees in the nation’s history. Local news reports say the couple may have killed and eaten dozens of victims since the 1990s.

Construction workers stumbled upon the cellphone — a black Samsung — during road work on Sept. 11. They looked through the phone’s photos and chanced upon several gruesome images of a “man with different parts of a dismembered human body in his mouth,” the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement Tuesday.
