Human remains found in a reservoir near Newport in Wales could be those of a woman who was meant to be travelling to Folkestone before she was murdered by her husband 20 years ago.

Sandie Bowen went missing from her home in Llandogo, Monmouthshire, in August 1997. Her husband Michael Bowen was charged and convicted of her murder in 1998 - but he refused to reveal what he did with her body.

On Wednesday Gwent Police confirmed they were investigating reports from a member of the public about suspected human remains found in Wentwood Reservoir.

Mrs Bowen's daughter, Anita Giles, has told the South Wales Argus the human remains "could be" her mum.

Gwent Police recovered the human remains for the purposes of identification and have since confirmed the body has been identified as a female. Police said specialist teams are now working with officers to identify the body.

Miss Giles told the Argus: "I don't know much but all I know is what police told me when they called.

"They told me that it could be my mum but we don't know at this point."

The man who caught evil Christopher Halliwell believes items found near one of his victims could link him to a string of other cases.

Taxi driver Halliwell, 52, is serving life for killing clubber Sian O’Callaghan, 22, and Becky Godden-Edwards, 25.

Now former detective Steve Fulcher, 51, has backed research into other murders by “cold case” expert Chris Clark.

He claims there are strong “evidential links” to the Halliwell killings which police should investigate.

And he wants the Wiltshire force to look at the 60 alleged “trophy” items linked to Halliwell which were found in 2014.

Two articles of clothing in the haul have been identified and have links to Sian and Becky.

Mr Fulcher is liaising with Mr Clark, 71, who has produced a detailed list of unsolved slayings.

Mr Fulcher said: “The immediate and obvious source of linked evidence is the 60 items of women’s clothing found, together with a shotgun, at Ramsbury in May 2014.”

Mr Fulcher wants the haul to be shown to other murder victims’ relatives and checked for any DNA matches.

He added: “Should an evidential link be found, we would be well on the way to clearing up these cases.”

Mr Clark said: “Halliwell’s trophy hoard could well be the key to solving many of these murders.

    • State investigators are seeking to verify the claims about dozens of victims of the sinister pair from Krasnodar who were detained after seven bags of body parts were found in their fridge and freezer.

At least one jar with pickled human remains, and 19 slices of skin were also discovered in the macabre flat.

    • Alleged cannibal Natalia Baksheeva made 'pies' of suspected human meat and supplied them to local restaurants, it has been claimed.

The 42 year old and husband Dmitry Baksheev, 35, are detained amid urgent police investigations into her confession that the couple killed and ate 30 or more victims.

Cut-up human remains were found in their fridge and freezer, and elsewhere in their home at a hostel in a military academy in Krasnodar, southern Russia.
One victim was waitress Elena Vashrushev, 35, who lived close to Natalia and her husband. Others are feared to be women who joined dating websites before vanishing.
Neighbours say former nurse Natalia made and sold pies to boost her income, boasted to cafe owners that she could supply 'meat' and may have worked as a chef.

'I bake pies,' she told one local. Asked what she filled them with, she replied: 'Whatever is around.

It was a chance discovery of a cellphone on a street that led investigators in the southwestern Russian city of Krasnodar to arrest a husband and wife, dubbed by local media the “cannibal couple,” suspected in one of the worst killing sprees in the nation’s history. Local news reports say the couple may have killed and eaten dozens of victims since the 1990s.

Construction workers stumbled upon the cellphone — a black Samsung — during road work on Sept. 11. They looked through the phone’s photos and chanced upon several gruesome images of a “man with different parts of a dismembered human body in his mouth,” the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement Tuesday.

Chilling moment killer pulls up to police station with dead victim in front seat
Sukwinder Singh, from Sandwell, West Midlands, has now been jailed for the manslaughter of his brother-in-law
    By Bradley Jolly

    UPDATED19:19, 29 JUN 2018

This is the chilling moment a killer showed police officers the body of his victim slumped in the passenger seat of his car.

Sukwinder Singh, 41, drove his black BMW to a police station and invited officers out to his car.

And they were horrified to see the body of Singh's brother-in-law Harish Kumar inside with a stab wound to his chest.

A court heard Singh had been driving for five hours with his victim sat next to him before going to the police in West Bromwich, West Mids.

The killer has now been jailed for a minimum of five years after admitting manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, Birmingham Live reports.

He'll be deported to India after his sentence.

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told the "extremely dangerous" paranoid schizophrenic had years earlier fled an Indian murder conviction.

Manhunt underway after notorious French gangster Redoine Faid breaks free from jail in dramatic helicopter escape
    Rory Mulholland, in paris
    1 JULY 2018 • 6:08PM

France’s most famous gangster on Sunday made a spectacular jailbreak with the help of three heavily-armed accomplices who landed in his jail in a helicopter and flew out with him on board.

Redoine Faid was being visited by his brother in Réau prison in the Paris region when the men burst into the room on Sunday morning and extracted him.

A third man waited in the helicopter in the prison courtyard to watch over the pilot, a flying instructor whose aircraft the men hijacked in a nearby airfield and whom they forced to take part in the dramatic operation.

It was the second time Faid, 46, has pulled off a spectacular jailbreak.

French prison escapee Redoine Faid is still on the run. Here is the latest on him:

Redoine Faid prison escape: French gangster could be 'disguised as Orthodox Jew and heading for Israel'
    PETER ALLEN In Paris

Faid, who speaks Hebrew, has often expressed a wish to settle in Israel. In his 2010 autobiography he told how disguising himself as an “ultra-Orthodox Jew” was the perfect way to evade police, and claimed he learnt firearms skills from an Israeli soldier.

Faïd's ‘mad’ French prison break: ‘Within 10 minutes, it was all over’, guard says
    Text by Françoise MARMOUYET
    Latest update : 2018-07-03

Career criminal Rédoine Faïd enhanced his “Jailbreak King” reputation on Sunday with his second escape in five years, this time by helicopter from France's Réau prison. As the manhunt continues, a Réau guard spoke to France 24 about what went wrong.

A seasoned armed robber, Faïd has spent most of the past 20 years behind bars – save for two years spent, in part, touting his 2010 memoirs and his six weeks on the lam after breaking out of Sequedin. In April this year, the 46-year-old was handed his stiffest sentence yet: a 25-year term on appeal for the death of 26-year-old policewoman Aurélie Fouquet, who was fatally sprayed with gunfire during a 2010 botched robbery.

Moments before midday on Sunday, a helicopter flew over a Réau Prison watchtower before hovering in place just above a yard of the facility to which inmates generally have no access. After setting off smoke bombs, two men spilled from the aircraft, powered through a door with an angle grinder and advanced down a corridor to a prison visiting room where Faïd was meeting with his brother. Funnelled to the waiting helicopter, the gangster was spirited away into the clear blue sky in a matter of minutes.

Prison authorities kept a close eye on Faïd at Réau, where he had been incarcerated since November 2017. The convict had left the prison in February to attend his appeal in the policewoman’s death, but returned to his Réau cell in April.

“He was in solitary, meaning he crossed paths with almost no one. All of his movements were escorted...

    more on this case:

    Posted on July 3, 2018,

Police have arrested a healthcare worker on suspicion of the murder of eight babies and the attempted murder of six more. She remains in custody.

Officers searched the home of Lucy Letby, 28, as part of an ongoing investigation of the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Officers are looking into the deaths of 17 infants and 15 non-fatal collapses between March 2015 and July 2016.

Police are believed to have arrived at Ms Letby's home at around 6am on Tuesday, setting up a forensics tent, and were also seen at her parents' property in Hereford.

In a 2013 interview with the Chester And District Standard, Ms Letby said she cared for babies requiring various levels of support and had worked at the neonatal unit since graduating.

The arrest is part of a police investigation into the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester, England, launched in May 2017. In total, the deaths of 17 babies are being looked into, as well as 15 "non-fatal collapses", between March 2015 and July 2016.

The investigation is active and ongoing at this stage. Detective Inspector Paul Hughes said in a statement: "This is a highly complex and very sensitive investigation and, as you can appreciate, we need to ensure we do everything we possibly can to try to establish in detail what has led to these baby deaths and collapses.
"There are no set timescales for this coming to a conclusion but we remain committed to carrying out a thorough investigation as soon as possible."

Hughes added that the case has had "a huge impact on all of the families, staff, and patients at the hospital as well as members of the public. Parents of all the babies are continuing to be kept fully updated and are being supported throughout the process by specially trained officers."

Amsterdam stabbing suspect had "terrorist motive," authorities say

Last Updated Sep 1, 2018 1:39 PM EDT

AMSTERDAM — Authorities in Amsterdam say a 19-year-old Afghan citizen who was shot and detained after a double stabbing at the city's main railway station had a "terrorist motive." The Dutch capital's government said in a statement Saturday that investigators reached the conclusion based on the suspect's first statements to police.

The suspect allegedly stabbed two American tourists on Friday before police shot and wounded him. He holds a German residency permit and was identified as Jawed S. in line with Dutch privacy rules.

Holland Shooting: At least one dead and multiple wounded after gunman 'with possible terrorist motive' opens fire on Dutch tram before going on the run, as nearby schools are put on lockdown:

At least one person has died and a number of people injured in a shooting 'with possible terrorist motive' in the central Dutch city of Utrecht on Monday morning, local news reports.

One or several gunmen opened fire on a tram in the city centre at around 10.45 local time on Monday morning, before fleeing the scene, witnesses say.

Police say one or multiple assailants are still at large, and have since instructed all schools in the city to keep their doors closed.

The casualty was reported by the Dutch ANP news agency, which stated that the victim was completely covered with a sheet and lying on the tracks between two carriages. There was no immediate official confirmation.

The Utrecht police said a square at a tram station outside the city centre had been cordoned off as emergency services were at the scene.

Officials added that trauma helicopters were sent to the scene, and they are appealing to the public to stay away to allow first responders to do their work.

They had no further details about the incident and could not say how badly hurt the victims were.

'Several shots were fired in a tram and several people were injured. Helicopters are at the scene and no arrests have been made,' said police spokesman Joost Lanshage.

Dutch media quoted an eyewitness as saying he had seen a woman lying on the ground amid some kind of confrontation. Several men ran away from the scene, the witness said.

Local resident Jimmy De Koster witnessed the incident and told De Telegraaf: 'I was standing at the traffic lights on 24 Oktoberplein and I saw a woman lying down, I think she would have been between 20 and 35 years old.

'She shouted 'I didn't do anything'.'

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte called the situation 'very worrying' and the country's counterterror coordinator said in a tweet that a crisis team was meeting to discuss the situation.

Utrecht is located about 25 miles south of Amsterdam in central Holland.
