This is an absolutely despicable murder and most likely yet another ice related case.

Young mum fights for life after alleged assault by ex-partner

    9th September,2015

A MAN accused of running a Gold Coast mother off the road before beating her to the brink of death has been charged with attempted murder.

It came as police announced it is unlikely 24-year-old Tara Brown will survive her injuries, meaning the charge could be upgraded.

A man is accused of using his Jeep four-wheel-drive to force his ex-partner’s vehicle off Macquarie Ave, Molendinar, on the Gold Coast about 8.45am yesterday.

The vehicle crashed down a 3m embankment, damaging a brick wall at a house.

The man is accused of then running about 50m back down the road to the crash site before allegedly smashing in the woman’s face with a piece of metal as she lay in the upturned vehicle.

Police said today she was unlikely to survive. He was hit with charges, including attempted murder along with driving and domestic violence-related offences, in a bedside hearing today.

Gold Coast bashing victim begged for help to leave ex-partner

    September 10, 2015

POLICE have upgraded Lionel Patea’s attempted murder charge to murder after his ex-partner Tara Brown had her life support turned off last night.

On Tuesday afternoon, the 24-year-old allegedly rammed Ms Brown’s car off the road before he repeatedly beat her in the head with a piece of steel, leaving her with fatal injuries.

A bedside hearing was held for Patea, an alleged sergeant-at-arms with the Bandidos bikie gang, yesterday afternoon and he is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on October 28

Police said relatives and friends of Ms Brown, 24, had started flying in from New Zealand yesterday to be by her bedside. It is unknown who was with her when she passed away last night.

Patea had to be admitted to hospital after he handed himself into police on Tuesday morning with severe puncture wounds to his chest and neck. It is believed they were self-inflicted.

Detectives ‘shocked’ by Tara Brown’s injuries

    September 10, 2015

THE injuries sustained by 24-year-old mum Tara Brown were so brutal it shocked veteran detectives to their core.

“It is believed there were a number of altercations between Nerang and Molendinar where the crash occurred, including a possible physical altercation at a set of traffic lights.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a black Jeep and black Mazda in the area between 8am and 8.30am on Tuesday.”

Det Insp Swan said it was a shocking case that affected all officers.

“At first police thought a paver or brick was used in the alleged attack on the woman but it was a cast iron metal plate that had come loose from a footpath hydrant,” he alleged.

“I have been a police officer for more than 30 years and this sort of thing still shocks me — it is shocking.

In Australia it will be significantly less than he deserves. And he will add to the long and ever growing Aussie crim list that will laugh that he got away with it.
We will watch it all play out and then as history has shown us we will all be disappointed with our legal system yet again.
In the meantime there will be new Domestic Voilence Campaigns on tv, important people will make important public announcements blah blah blah
He will be paroled early after manipulating the system, and free to do what he likes. And QLDPOL will shake their heads and wonder why they bother.

You might has well have been writing about the USA. It's the same here! What is wrong with our two judicial systems in two different parts of the world that they are both so messed up? I don't get it!

Thats it Kimster, me neither. I reckon the people here on this forum would do a better job with getting the justice bizo right.
I feel so sorry for the families when this happens, they become the victims as well, it sucks

The judicial systems themselves and too many do gooders/bleeding hearts in amongst it. As soon as they hit court it becomes all about the crim's rights and the victims are forgotten. Creeps like Patea are too far into drugs and violence to ever be rehabilitated.

Tara Brown’s ex faces court on murder charge

    September 16, 2015

THE young Gold Coast mum allegedly murdered by her former bikie ex-partner in a horrific domestic violence attack will be farewelled tomorrow.

Funeral preparations for Tara Brown on the Gold Coast were finalised as her ex Lionel Patea faced Southport Magistrates Court today for the first time charged with her murder.

Patea allegedly rammed the 24-year-old’s car off the road and then used a cast iron fire hydrant cover to repeatedly bash her as she lay trapped in the vehicle at Molendinar last Tuesday.

With his arms folded, Patea showed no emotion as he appeared in court via video link from jail.

Defence lawyer Campbell MacCallum request for psychiatric assistance to be provided to Patea in custody.

Mr MacCallum suggested there could be “live issues” with Patea’s mental state and said he had been seeking the assistance for about a week but now had an appointment booked on Friday.

Tara Brown death: Lionel Patea seeking psychiatric help

    September 16, 2015 - 3:08PM

A man accused of bashing to death his ex-partner after running her off the road has sought psychiatric help in prison, a court has heard.

Lionel Patea's markedly subdued appearance in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning came in stark contrast to the allegedly enraged figure accused of running Tara Brown off a suburban Gold Coast street last week and beating her repeatedly about the head with a piece of metal, as she lay trapped in her overturned car.

Before Ms Brown's death, Mr Patea had been charged with attempted murder in a bedside court hearing at the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he was admitted with stab wounds believed to self-inflicted, the same day Ms Brown was taken to hospital.

He was subsequently released and was transferred to jail, where he is believed to be in protective custody

Mr Patea was remanded in custody to reappear via videolink on November 11

Tara Brown farewelled at funeral as chilling details of her final moments revealed in court

    September 17, 2015

CHILLING details have been revealed about the final moments of Tara Brown’s life — one of two Gold Coast women whose horrific murders have sparked calls to action on domestic violence and disturbingly, concerns over copycat acts.

The 24-year-old had consulted police about her ex-partner and accused killed Lionel Patea the week before her death.

Patea fronted a Southport court yesterday, charged with her murder. It was alleged he followed Ms Brown from a Gold Coast childcare centre where she had dropped off her daughter last Tuesday. After being confronted by the former bikie, she allegedly made a frantic call to triple-0.

Mourners gather at Gold Coast church for funeral service for Tara Brown

    September 17, 2015

SHE was the beautiful young mum who loved touch footy, taking selfies and most of all her gorgeous little daughter.

Tara Brown, the Gold Coast woman allegedly murdered by her ex-bikie partner last week in a horrific domestic violence attack, was farewelled today at a huge funeral service.

Hundreds of mourners, many wearing white ribbons to symbolise the campaign against domestic violence, packed the Southport Church of Christ for the service.

Ms Brown, 24, was a native New Zealander and the sounds of strumming guitars and sweet Polynesian harmonies filled the church as tearful friends and relatives gathered to say their goodbyes.

In heartbreaking scenes, Ms Brown’s three-year-old daughter Aria played on the stage next to her mother’s flower-covered white casket, seemingly blissfully oblivious to the terrible tragedy.

One of Ms Brown’s uncles used his eulogy to speak out about domestic violence.

“We pray that domestic violence will end,” he said.

“There are women out there - you know who you are - please, don’t live in silence.”

Tara Brown’s final days alive: Domestic bust-up with Lionel Patea saw couple visit lawyers

    November 03, 2015

TARA Brown and Lionel Patea had a violent argument while returning from New Zealand to Australia in the days before her death, say family friends.

Family sources for the first time have revealed some of the events leading up to the young office worker seeking an urgent meeting with Southport police a week before her death.

It comes as police charged Patea with a second murder unrelated to Ms Brown, accusing him of killing missing Gold Coast man Greg Dufty.

After a four-month investigation, Patea, 24, was arrested in relation to the murder of Mr Dufty, 37, who disappeared on July 6, just two months before police allege Patea beat Ms Brown, the mother of his child, to death in Molendinar.

Patea, a former Bandido sergeant-at-arms, on September 8 allegedly rammed Ms Brown’s car, forcing her off the road and beat her while she was trapped in the wreckage.

Her life support was turned off a day after the incident at the Gold Coast University Hospital and Patea taken into custody and charged with murder.
