911 call warns of speeding trucker on I-294 moments before he allegedly struck, killed tollway worker
    Howard Ludwig

A female driver called 911 about a truck that was speeding and swerving southbound down Interstate 294 just moments before Illinois Tollway worker David Schwarz was struck and killed Sept. 18 near Alsip.

The driver attempts to identify the truck for an emergency call taker. She also describes the truck as "going onto the left shoulder and that," according to a recording of the call supplied to the Daily Southtown following a Freedom of Information Act request.
The driver reports that the truck is a silver grain hauler with Mack-brand mud flaps. She estimates that the driver is speeding at roughly 70 miles per hour in the left lane. She later calls back to give the name on the side of the trailer as Smith Trucking.

Smith Trucking Inc. is a defendant in a lawsuit filed Oct. 16 by the Schwarz family. Also named in the lawsuit is Christian Hanna, an Ohio truck driver, who was charged with reckless homicide Feb. 1 at the Cook County Courthouse in Bridgeview.
