A Million Dollar Warrant Issued by Island County Prosecutors on March 12 for Gonzales' Arrest

Gonzales also has family ties in Los Banos, California. A million dollar warrant was issued by Island County Prosecutors Office on March 12 for his arrest for unlawful possession of guns and for stealing Katherine's car.

    :welcome: @Justice4tinkerbell !

The central valley in California is very vast. I wonder if he had a buddy come pick him up in Yreka?

    Hi Kimster! Thank you!
One would have to believe someone he knows, family or friend, met him up there - he needed further transportation. (The I-5 travels through Yreka and Los Banos.) There were several days after Katherine was killed and her body was found. There was a report of a park ranger at Happy Camp near Yreka who thought he talked to someone maybe matching his description, asking about edible mushrooms. But with his immediate family being in Los Banos and people knowing him there and in Merced, plus his need to have access to money to get by and to hide, it seems his ties would be strong with Merced County in the central valley.

Police records reveal details about Camano Island homicide, bunker contents
    Peggy Wendel
    Mar 23, 2018 Updated Mar 26, 2018

A $1 million bench warrant for Gonzales, 34, was issued March 9. Charges include theft of a motor vehicle and five counts of unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree. The silver 1998 Honda Civic he was driving was found abandoned on Interstate 5 in Yreka, California, impounded by California Highway Patrol. Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said March 12 the vehicle would be returned to Washington and processed for evidence.

The body of Katherine Cunningham was discovered March 3 when a neighbor and several friends were walking on the 10-acre parcel. The neighbor was considering purchasing the parcel.

Down in a ravine, they spotted a red wagon and tarps that seemed out of place, according to the documents. Looking closer, they saw a sleeping bag wrapped in a tarp. One person used his foot to nudge the sleeping bag and felt something heavy inside, the documents reveal. Pushing back the top of the sleeping bag with his foot, he found a woman with most of her head missing, according to the records.

The neighbor took photos with his phone to show the police and left to report the incident.

    [......]
A trail of empty nylon sandbags led from the wagon to a large hole near the hilltop about 70 feet from the body, according to the report.

The hole turned out to be a bunker, about six feet deep and four feet around, manmade and reinforced with wood to keep it from collapsing and a ladder for access. The bunker was described in the warrant as the type used by survivalists. A warrant was obtained to remove the body and any evidence in the bunker or area.

During a search of the bunker, detectives found a ballistic vest, ammo and a stash of weapons.....

I think you're right. Perhaps the person who picked him up didn't even know what crime he had committed. Hopefully as soon as the person finds out and believes that he's a dangerous man, they'll call in that tip to law enforcement.

Perhaps the person (maybe a friend) who picked him up at the time did not know, but as he was in Katherine's silver Honda and if it was a family member of his, not wonder where Katherine was? It has been all over the local news in the Central Valley, both on t.v. and newspaper. In Los Banos, it was on every news stand. As Los Banos and Dos Palos are small, people must surely talk and know him and his family. So at this point, one has to believe his family or friends are aware yet may be aiding him. He is still out there and Katherine died over a month ago now. We can only hope that a tip comes in soon, or whoever is helping him realizes what a heinous crime was committed and are also putting themselves in jeopardy. A memorial will be taking place for Katherine this Friday in CA so that she may be at rest.

Oh, I misread. I thought they didn't find Katherine for a few days, so the killer was able to hide it during that time.

Man on the run charged with murder after his DNA was found on samurai sword believed to be used to behead woman: police
    By Kathleen Joyce

A man on the run was charged with murder in connection with the beheading death of a woman in February after tests discovered his DNA on the samurai sword police believe was used to decapitate the victim.

Jacob Gonzales, 33, of California, was being sought by police and was believed to be hiding in Merced County, the Island County Sheriff’s Office said.

Gonzales was charged Friday with “domestic violence murder in the second degree, while armed with a deadly weapon” in connection with Katherine Cunningham’s death.

    [.....]
If convicted, Gonzales faced up to 28 years in prison.

Prosecutor: Blood on samurai sword ties man to woman's beheading
Mike Chapman, Redding Record Searchlight Published 6:56 p.m. PT June 29, 2018

Blood stains found on a samurai sword has led to murder charges against a Washington man who is accused of beheading a woman and then abandoning her stolen car on the side of Interstate 5 near Yreka in February.

The Island County Prosecuting Attorney's Office in Coupeville, Washington, had been waiting nearly four months for the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab to provide results of forensic testing on the sword, which was found in the trunk of the stolen 1998 Honda.

On Wednesday, the lab's results showed dried blood on the sword's blade belongs to murder victim Katherine Cunningham while DNA on the hilt matched the suspect, 33-year-old Jacob Gonzales, Island County Prosecutor Greg Banks said.

Island County sheriff's investigators have been trying to find Gonzales since early March and he still has a $1 million nationwide warrant out for his arrest.

    [.....]
Calling local authorities with tips is most important. After that, leads on Gonzales' whereabouts can be submitted to the Island County sheriff's dispatch center at 360-679-9567 or via the email, Tips@co.island.wa.us.
