Sandy Police seek public's help locating missing woman, man she was last seen with

Jan Pearson-Jenkins allegedly went camping in the area of Eureka and Silver City with Cody Young, according to Sgt. Jason Nielsen with the Sandy City Police Department.

She was last seen by her mother on Oct. 4, the day she left for the camping trip.

Jenkins' family hasn't heard from her since Oct. 5.

Young messaged Jenkins' family to let them know that the pair had an argument. He told the family he had left Jenkins in the area.

Jenkins did not take her purse or cell phone with her on the camping trip. She was also not dress appropriately for cold weather, a press release stated.

Juab County checked the last known area where Jenkins was suspected of being, which was a remote area. They found no sign of Jenkins.

The nearest town to her supposed last known location is Silver City, a ghost town and the nearest real town of Eureka, which is 4 miles away.

Police have not been able to locate Cody to speak to him about Jenkins.

Police seek missing Sandy woman, man who said he left her in rural Juab County

Sandy police are asking for the public’s help in locating a woman who disappeared after allegedly going camping with a man who said he left her in a remote part of Juab County.

The following day, Young texted Pearson-Jenkins’ family, “advising them that they were in an argument and he had left the area,” a notice from the Sandy City Police says.

Pearson-Jenkins did not take her purse or cell phone, and was not dressed appropriate for the cold weather, the police statement says.

“Juab County checked the last known area where Jan was suspected of being, which was out in a remote area,” the Sandy Police Department statement says. “Juab County did not locate any sign of Jan. The nearest town is a ghost town, Silver City, and the nearest real town is Eureka (approximately 4 miles away).

“Police have been unable to locate Cody to speak with him about Jan. We are asking for the public’s help with locating Jan and Cody.”

Anyone who recognizes Young or Pearson-Jenkins or has any other information is urged to contact Sandy Police at 801-568-7200 or at our anonymous tip line 801-568-INFO.

Argument over money may have led to Sandy woman's disappearance, family says

Investigators are looking for a missing Sandy woman in Juab County. Police say a man may have abandoned her on a camping trip.

Jan Pearson-Jenkins, 64, was last seen a week ago, and no one has heard from her since Friday about 4 p.m., according to her brother, Jace Pearson.

Pearson said he believes she was involved in a romantic relationship with Cody Young, who is 42. The Sandy Police Department is working to locate both people and asking for the public’s help. Officers say Young may be in a black van from the 1980s with Arizona license plates.

Problems may have begun with an argument over money for repair work that Young did at the home where Pearson-Jenkins lived with her mom. Pearson said he received 55 pages of text messages from Young late Friday.

“Part of his text was he was upset about not being paid what he thought was due,” he said.

Young told Pearson to pick up his sister, giving coordinates off Highway 6 south of Eurkea in Silver City, which is nearly 100 miles south of Salt Lake City.

“He no longer wanted to tolerate her behavior so that’s why he kicked her out of the van,” Pearson said, adding “She apparently got out without her phone, without her purse, had no way of contacting anybody, and this was 11 o’clock at night out near Silver City, which is like a ghost town.”

The family contacted the Sandy Police Department on Wednesday because that’s where the missing woman lives.

Pearson-Jenkins has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for 40 years, according to her brother.

“That’s a big concern obviously... assuming she may have been involved in substance abuse this last trip,” Pearson said, “and how in the world is she going to navigate when it’s pitch black out in the middle of nowhere?”

The Juab County Sheriff’s Office searched the area on Thursday afternoon but did not find any sign of the missing woman.

A bizarre missing persons case developing in Sandy. A 64 year old woman disappears with a man in his 40's. He texts a "pin" to her brother, of where he claims dropped her off in a remote area of Juab County. Six days later, no one has heard again either one. Watch @KSL5TV at 6

What kind of a guy does this????

Not only that, Ima, but Sandy is over an hour's drive from where he supposedly left her. So even if he had texted her brother to come get her immediately when she got out of the car...so many things could have gone wrong.

I'm not convinced he simply "kicked her out of the car" though.

Regardless, who in the heck leaves someone in the middle of nowhere. With no phone, purse/identification, and not dressed for the weather.

I just keep thinking about Meighan Cordie, whose mother also said she "got out of the car after an argument" in one location, but it had actually happened miles away. And not at all the way she said it did.

Seems to me this guy is hiding out so he won't be questioned. We'll see if my speculation is right, after he's found!

Yes, and it just seems strange to me that they go camping, start arguing about how much money she's going to pay him for work he did for her and he throws her out? Why even bother to call her brother unless he wanted to make it look like he left her alive. I just don't buy it.

reminds me of the guy that claimed her just left Christine Morris in the car garage alone and he said he just drove out of the garage without even making sure she got to her car ok.

Body found in search for missing Sandy woman, person of interest questioned

A body has been found by a search party who were looking for Jan Pearson-Jenkins.

The family of Jan Pearson-Jenkins, a missing woman from Sandy, organized a search party Saturday morning to explore the area outside of Eureka, Utah, where Pearson-Jenkins was last seen.

Juab County officials have now confirmed that a body has been found by the search party. The scene has been cordoned off and crime scene investigators are being brought in.

Juab County Sheriff's Office has detailed a male person of interest for questioning, found by Yuba Reservoir, stated Undersheriff Brent Pulver. Pulver did not confirm with 2News if the individual was Young.

Suspect arrested, charged with 1st-degree criminal homicide in Sandy woman’s death

An arrest has been made in the death of a Sandy woman whose body is believed to have been found Saturday in the Silver City area of Juab County.

A news release from the Juab County Sheriff’s Office late Saturday night states that Cody Young, 42, has been arrested in the death of Jan Pearson-Jenkins.

Young was booked into the Juab County Jail on a charge of criminal homicide, a first-degree felony.

At 10:57 a.m. Saturday, a campsite was found, along with evidence indicating it was the spot where the victim and Cody Young had been camping.

About 45 minutes later, a female body was found within a mile of the suspected campsite.

Investigators were called to process the scene, and the body was transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner to be positively identified.

In an earlier news release from Sandy City police, officials said that Cody Alexander Young had texted Pearson-Jenkins’ family, saying the two had argued, and he had left her at their rural campsite.

On Saturday afternoon, Utah State Parks rangers took Young into custody near Yuba State Park, after spotting his vehicle, which was being sought in the woman’s disappearance.

Detectives interviewed Young at the Juab County Jail, where he was later booked on the criminal homicide charge.

Utahn arrested in woman's death released from jail as deputies await evidence

A man booked into jail for investigation of murder last month is now out of jail as the investigation into the woman's death continues.

“We know there is a deceased individual, but we want the expertise and the final report from the medical examiner’s office to help us make that final determination of the charges,” said Juab County Sheriff Doug Anderson.

Young was released and ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor and is required to remain in Utah until he is sentenced in that case in January.

Peters said if the autopsy results support criminal charges in Jenkins' death, Young can be prosecuted.

The sheriff said a final report from the medical examiner should be available in a few weeks.

Still no charges filed in death of Sandy woman

It's been five months since the body of a missing Sandy woman was discovered naked on a sagebrush hillside in Juab County.

No one has yet been charged with the death of Jan Pearson-Jenkins, 64, and her autopsy report has not been publicly released.

But the Juab County Sheriff's Office says the case is still a "very active" investigation, and a newly released court document suggests that Pearson-Jenkins' boyfriend, Cody Young, 42, is still very much a suspect.

"Detectives have determined that much of what Cody Young claimed occurred in the days leading up to his leaving Jan and the discovery of Jan's body are not true," a detective with the sheriff's office wrote in a search warrant affidavit filed in 4th District Court.

According to Pearson, his sister's updated death certificate lists her cause of death as hypothermia with methamphetamine being a contributing factor. But the manner of death is still listed as "unknown," he said. Pearson said while officials in Juab County have kept much of their investigation close to the vest, his family is encouraged by what they are hearing.

Man charged 9 months after missing Utah woman found dead in Juab County

Following a nine-month investigation, a Nephi man was charged Monday with causing the death of a Sandy woman whose naked body was found on a sagebrush hillside in Juab County.

Cody Alexander Young, 43, is charged in Juab County's 4th District Court with manslaughter, a second-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a class A misdemeanor. A $50,000 warrant was issued for his arrest.

An autopsy from the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office determined that Jan Pearson-Jenkins, 64, died from hypothermia "with a contributory condition of recent methamphetamine use. (She) also had notable minor blunt force trauma of head, torso and extremities," according to charging documents.

That night, about 9:30 p.m., Young called Pearson-Jenkins' family "and left a message that he left her out here' and was tired of her," the charges state.

Young had left Pearson-Jenkins without a cellphone, transportation or provisions, and she was not properly dressed for the weather, according to police.

On Oct. 13, Pearson-Jenkins' nude body was found with three articles of clothing on the ground near her.
