Estranged husband files to halt divorce proceedings against missing New Canaan woman

Fotis Dulos has filed to stop the divorce proceedings between him and Jennifer Dulos, the New Canaan mother who has been missing more than a month.

The motion says "proceeding in any manner without the Plaintiff deprives the Defendant of his due process rights of cross-examination and his ability to conduct discovery from the Plaintiff."

Fotis Dulos and his girlfriend Michelle Troconis are both charged with evidence tampering and hindering prosecution in connection to Jennifer Dulos' disappearance.

Earlier, a judge granted permission for Troconis to leave the state. Troconis will be under house arrest at the location she is staying and will be monitored by GPS and must return to Connecticut if there are "any problems." A judge also agreed to a no contact order between Fotis Dulos and Troconis.

Search for missing Connecticut mother expands to reservoir near home of estranged husband

    JUL 04, 2019 | 7:55 AM

Authorities searching for a missing Connecticut mother have expanded their efforts to a reservoir nearby the home of her estranged husband, who has been arrested in her disappearance.

New Canaan Police Lt. Jason Ferraro said the Connecticut State Police K9 unit combed through the Metropolitan District Reservoir property in West Hartford on Wednesday for any sign of Jennifer Dulos, who was last seen alive dropping off her kids in New Canaan on May 24.

There’s only about a half-mile of woods between the water treatment facility and Fotis Dulos’ home in Farmington, which has already faced several law enforcement searches, the Hartford Courant reported. Fotis and his 44-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, are both facing charges of evidence tampering and hindering the prosecution’s investigation into Jennifer’s disappearance.

Author of 'Gone Girl' slams attorney's claim linking Jennifer Dulos' disappearance to book

Author Gillian Flynn said she's been following 50-year-old Dulos' story, and describes the situation as "so incredibly painful."

"I’ve seen in recent coverage that Jennifer’s husband and his defense attorney have put forward a so-called 'Gone Girl theory' to explain Jennifer’s disappearance," Flynn told WTNH-TV. "It absolutely sickens me that a work of fiction written by me would be used by Fotis Dulos’s lawyer as a defense, and as a hypothetical, sensationalized motive behind Jennifer’s very real and very tragic disappearance."

“Jennifer’s novel is not a mystery. It’s a character-driven story that follows a young woman through relationships and self-discovery over a period of years. Like all of Jennifer’s writing, it expresses a deep longing for human connection and the need to be accepted as one’s true self.”

Connecticut's 'Gone Girl'? Two months and 1,200 tips later, Jennifer Dulos still missing

Two months after a mother of five vanished from a tony Connecticut town, authorities say they're still following up on more than 1,200 tips and leads.

But Jennifer Dulos' disappearance remains a mystery. The 50-year-old New Canaan woman went missing on May 24 after dropping her children off at school.

Police later arrested Fotis Dulos, her estranged husband, and Michelle Troconis, his girlfriend, on charges of evidence tampering and hindering prosecution. Both have pleaded not guilty, and both are free on $500,000 bond.

The five children, who range in age from 8 to 13 and include two sets of twins, have been staying with a grandmother in New York City.

"It's still an active investigation," New Canaan police Lt. Jason Ferraro said. "We're over 1,200 tips at this time. It's a tremendous amount of information" to sort through.

Dulos case: attorneys spar over whether Michelle Troconis should give deposition

Attorneys for Jennifer Dulos’ mother have requested an emergency court hearing, in an effort to subpoena Michelle Troconis.

Troconis is the girlfriend of Dulos’ estranged husband Fotis, both are charged in connection to her disappearance.

Jennifer’s mother, Gloria Farber, is suing Fotis Dulos and his company Fore Group in two civil lawsuits for more than $2 million for money Jennifer’s father gave to Fotis before he died. Farber maintains the money was in the form of loans that went unpaid. Dulos maintains the money had been gifted.

On July 22 Attorneys issued a subpoena, ordering a deposition from Troconis. An interview was scheduled for July 31, but Troconis’ attorney Andrew Bowman objected to the motion, invoking her fifth amendment right and “privilege against self-incrimination.”

Bowman claimed the subpoena was an attempt to gain testimony to pass off to the State’s Attorney investigating the criminal case against Troconis.

“Counsel for the plaintiff will surely seek to turn this discovery over to the State’s Attorney who is prosecuting Michelle Troconis,” Bowman wrote, “a use of compulsory process not available to the State’s Attorney who cannot utilize this compulsory process himself during this course of these parallel criminal proceedings.”

Bowman requested the court quash the subpoena, issue a protective order and stop any civil proceedings having to do with Troconis.

Friday, Farber’s team filed a motion requesting an emergency court hearing to discuss the subpoena in person.

Troconis lived with Fotis Dulos at 4 Jefferson Crossing, one of the homes Dulos developed with his company Fore Group. Troconis was also an employee of the Fore Group. Court paperwork in the divorce case between Jennifer and Fotis described Troconis as his “paramour.”

The civil suit claims that Jennifer and Fotis borrowed $500,000 from Jennifer’s father Hilliard Farber in 2012. Hilliard died in January 2017. The lawsuit claims a promissory note on the loan is past due as of July 2017. Jennifer was removed from the lawsuit as a defendant after her disappearance.

Bloody shirt, bra of missing New Canaan woman found in trash

Officials recovered a blood-stained shirt and bra they believe belonged to missing New Canaan woman Jennifer Dulos during their time searching trash bins in Hartford.

According to the Hartford Courant, police found the shirt Dulos was believed to be wearing the day she disappeared.
The Courant reported the shirt was stained with Dulos' blood and found by crews searching the garbage in Hartford.

State prosecutors say they have video of Jennifer's estranged husband Fotis Dulos and his girlfriend Michelle Troconis throwing away several items throughout Hartford.

Police reportedly also found two mops and sponges with blood on them.

New Canaan police released a statement after the article was published saying "as this remains an active and dynamic investigation no comment will be provided on any evidence that has been collected nor will information be provided regarding the results of any forensic testing."

Fotis Dulos wants his two oldest boys to tell a judge where they want to live as search for missing mom Jennifer Farber Dulos continues

In the two years since Fotis and Jennifer Farber Dulos filed for divorce, the oldest of the five children, twin boys, have grown into young teens — old enough, Fotis Dulos’ lawyers now say, to choose whether to live with their father while the search for their missing mother continues.

Jennifer Farber Dulos’ mother has had temporary custody of the five children in her New York City apartment since June. It’s time that the two 13½-year-old boys get their own lawyer and tell a judge where they want to live, Fotis Dulos attorneys say in a motion dated Thursday and filed in Stamford Superior Court.

The two oldest, “both of sufficient age and maturity, may well have an informed and intelligent view on a variety of subjects, from custody to therapy to water skiing — that obviously have not been influenced by [Dulos], with whom they have had no contact since May 22, 2019,” attorney Richard Rochlin of West Hartford writes in the motion for appointment of counsel.

The references to therapy and waterskiing arise from the disintegration of the couple’s marriage and the bitter divorce case. In her own writings and in court papers, Jennifer Dulos viewed them as sore points — her husband was not supportive enough of therapy for the children and subjected them to a water skiing regimen more suited for himself, a champion skier, than his children. Dulos has countered that he has been a highly supportive father and that the kids love the competitive success that the training has brought them.

Jennifer Dulos case: Active searches resume as disappearance reaches 3 months

Active searches have resumed into the disappearance of Jennifer Dulos as Saturday will mark exactly three months since she vanished.

New Canaan Police Lt. Jason Ferraro said Friday several recent searches have occurred, but declined to comment about the locations. Ferraro said last month investigators were not actively searching.

Ferraro said police have received nearly 1,400 tips in the case, but he said the volume and frequency has declined since the start of the investigation.

Ferraro said a team comprised of New Canaan police investigators and members of the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes units remain mostly focused on processing evidence.

Mother of missing New Canaan woman Jennifer Farber Dulos responds: I’ll get psychiatric evaluation if estranged husband Fotis Dulos does, too

The mother of missing New Canaan woman Jennifer Farber Dulos said Saturday she would undergo a psychiatric evaluation as long as her son-in-law — charged in connection with the May 24 disappearance of her daughter — is evaluated too.

“To be clear, [Gloria] Farber has no objection to the Court ordering her to undergo a psychological evaluation if the Court deems it appropriate, Farber’s lawyer, Anne Dranginis, said in a statement Saturday. “Any such order should be reciprocal such that the defendant should likewise be evaluated, and the costs of the same should be allocated between Mrs. Farber and the defendant.”

Dranginis was responding to a motion filed Friday by the attorney for her son-in-law Fotis Dulos in which he asked the court to order Farber, 85, who currently is caring for the Dulos’ five children, to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to ensure that they are safe.

Estranged husband arrested on new tampering charge in case of missing wife

HARTFORD, Conn. — Fotis Dulos, the estranged husband of missing New Canaan mother Jennifer Farber Dulos, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon and charged for a second time with tampering with evidence, officials said.

Details of the arrest were limited, but state police said Western District Major Crimes Detectives arrested him about 2:30 p.m. EDT at his Farmington home, which is also the headquarters of his luxury home-building company.

After his arrest, Dulos was transported to Troop G in Bridgeport. Norm Pattis, Dulos’ lawyer, said he had no information about the arrest.
Dulos, 51, and his girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, have been free on $500,000 bail since their arrest in early June for hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence in connection with the May 24 disappearance of Farber Dulos. Dulos has been under GPS monitoring and barred from contacting the five children he shares with Farber Dulos.

State police detectives investigating the disappearance believe a serious assault took place in Farber Dulos’ New Canaan home after they found blood splatter and stains, along with evidence of an attempted cleanup.

The night Farber Dulos went missing, a man resembling Dulos was seen on surveillance cameras dumping garbage bags along Albany Avenue in Hartford, arrest records show. A woman, who looked like Troconis, was spotted with the man in a truck, which investigators connected to Dulos, investigators said.

Detectives found some of the bags that were discarded, which contained items with Farber Dulos’ blood, records show. Law enforcement sources told The Hartford Courant that among the items were a Vineyard Vines shirt they believed Farber Dulos was wearing the day she went missing, as well as a bra and two mops and sponges with a small amount of blood.

Sources said investigators have been searching for two pieces of evidence that may have been tossed out that night, including a knife that a Hartford man told the Courant he found in a bag, and a carpet, which was seen being left at a nearby Albany Avenue restaurant.

In an early court appearance, Stamford/Norwalk State’s Attorney Richard Colangelo, arguing that Dulos remain in custody, said that investigators found Dulos’ DNA mixed with Farber Dulos’ blood on a kitchen faucet in the New Canaan home.
Dulos, in statements and numerous motions filed by his attorneys in the criminal case, has denied any involvement in the disappearance of Farber Dulos.

Pattis has asked Stamford Judge John F. Blawie to dismiss the case, saying there is insufficient evidence to proceed without other felony charges against him.

The case has garnered substantial public attention, which in part led Collangelo to seek a gag order, barring public comment on the case. Pattis, in a separate motion and in court, has said it’s his right to fight the public’s perception that Dulos is responsible for the disappearance. Blawie has yet to rule on either.

Farber Dulos was last seen after dropping her children off at their New Canaan school on May 24. Friends called New Canaan police later that evening when Farber Dulos failed to appear for appointments in New York City. Her mother, Gloria Farber, has had the children since Farber Dulos’ disappearance.

The two were locked in a two-year divorce and custody battle when Farber Dulos went missing that included allegations of threats and fear of violence from both sides.

A judge has allowed Gloria Farber to intervene in the case and granted her temporary custody of the five children.

The girlfriend turned herself in to authorities today. Here's part of the article:

Dulos attorney Norm Pattis said in a statement, "Our hearts go out to Ms. Troconis. We are confident that she will, in the end, tell the truth at trial. The state is a terrifying enemy, but a clean conscience is a powerful ally."

State police released a 43-page arrest warrant after Dulos arrest.

The arrest warrant states Fotis' girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, admitted to police during an interview on June 2 that she could not account for Fotis’ whereabouts on the morning Jennifer went missing (May 24). Michelle and Fotis also wrote “alibi scripts” detailing where they were on 5/24 and 5/25, but Michelle later admitted the details were false, according to the warrant.

The warrant also details how police believe Fotis used a Fore Group worker’s Toyota Tacoma truck to go down to New Canaan.

The estranged husband of Jennifer Dulos pleads not guilty; judge issues gag order

The estranged husband of missing Connecticut woman Jennifer Dulos pleaded not guilty on Thursday to a new charge of evidence tampering in the case.

The not guily plea came the same day a Superior Court judge issued a wide-ranging gag order, prohibiting a number of people involved in the case from discussing it in public or with the media.

The new charge against him was outlined in the police warrant, which contained shocking new allegations in the case of Jennifer Dulos, who has been missing since May.

On the day of her disappearance, Fotis Dulos is believed to have driven a truck borrowed from one of his employees, according to the latest warrant.

Fotis Dulos' girlfriend Michelle Troconis told police he had the truck cleaned days later, "because the body of Jennifer at some point was in there," according to the warrant.

The employee told police that Dulos, on returning the truck, urged him to replace the seats, and got "pushy" and angry when the seats weren't changed out.

Dulos told the employee he was worried about hair evidence in the truck, because he had hugged his estranged wife days before she disappeared, according to the warrant.

The employee told police he kept the seats without telling Dulos, in case police needed them, the warrant said. Police later found the "bloodlike substance" that contained Jennifer Dulos' DNA on one of the seats.

Investigators also found what police called "alibi scripts" in Dulos' business office, notes handwritten by Dulos and Troconis about activities and phone calls on the day Jennifer Dulos disappeared and the day after that turned out to be inaccurate and included "alibi witnesses who were later determined to be false," the warrant stated.

Fotis Dulos scolded for not keeping ankle monitor properly charged amid search for missing wife

The estranged husband of missing Connecticut mom Jennifer Dulos was scolded Monday for not keeping his ankle monitor properly charged while free on $1 million in bonds.

Fotis Dulos, 52, appeared in a Stamford courthouse after the probation department reported the battery for his GPS tracking device dipped below acceptable power levels on four separate occassions in August and September, the Hartford Courant reported.

Superior Court Judge John Blawie didn’t revoke Fotis’ freedom but ordered him to pay closer attention to the terms of his release or go back to jail and get slapped with a higher bond.

“There are two doors to this courtroom, the one in front that you walked in today, and the one behind me that only you and your attorney would go through,” Blawie said.

Defense lawyer Norm Pattis used part of the hearing to slam the gag order Blawie recently placed on all parties. He said the ruling was unfair to Fotis and that they planned to appeal it.

“I would like to thank all those people who have given me their support. I just want to tell you how much I love my children, and I can’t wait to see them," Fotis said after the hearing, The Courant reported.

The couple’s five children, meanwhile, are being cared for by Jennifer’s Manhattan-based mom.

Estranged Husband of Missing Mom Jennifer Dulos and His Girlfriend Appears in Court

    Published Oct 4, 2019 at 8:53 AM | Updated at 7:20 PM EDT on Oct 4, 2019

The estranged husband of a missing mother of five appeared in court Friday morning and his girlfriend both appeared in court Friday afternoon for charges connected to the disappearance of Jennifer Dulos.

He was in court around 10 a.m. and his attorney, Norm Pattis, argued that the hindering charge should be dropped because it requires some other felony and he argued the law is unconstitutional on the tampering charge.

The prosecutor argued that a judge found probable cause for the charges, a warrant was issued and the request should be denied.

The judge said he will take it under advisement.
