In June 2006, Christopher Edwards was arrested and charged with O'Grady's murder. He turned himself into the police to face the charges against him. Edwards maintains his innocence in O'Grady's disappearance. Investigators believe he murdered her with a Bangkok battle sword; O'Grady's blood was found on two swords, in one case mixed with Edwards's blood. Authorities theorize he killed O'Grady when she told him she was pregnant with his child; he was already seeing another woman and had made her pregnant in January. Prior to his trial, authorities offered him a deal where he would plead guilty to manslaughter and lead them to O'Grady's body, but he refused to cooperate. Edwards was convicted of second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon in April 2007. He was sentenced to 100 years to life in prison.

Questions by an author of a book about this crime:

    1. What did Chris Edwards use to kill Jessica? The prosecution made a huge deal - and the Omaha news media erroneously bought into the false narrative, unfortunately - that a long sword was used to hack her to death. But in all likelihood, that item, we now know, was totally fabricated by disgraced Douglas County CSI director David Kofoed, who later went to prison for planting blood in prior murder cases. Since we now know the sword wasn't used, what was the true murder weapon and where did it go?

    2. Did Edwards do the murder alone?

    3. Did Edwards have a helper in removing Jessica's body from his downstairs basement bedroom?

    4. Did Edwards really use his own vehicle to get rid of the body?

    5. If Edwards used Jessica's car to remove her body, where could he have disposed of her?

    6. Numerous lakes and ponds have been searched to no avail. Could Jessica'a body have ended up at the Douglas County Landfill that services Omaha?

    7. Authorities from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office have made Edwards' father, Bob Edwards, a source of suspicion for years, but have those efforts been misguided?

    8. Why hasn't Chris Edwards broken his wall of silence and revealed the truth about the murder, especially if he did the crime and disposed of the body all alone?

    9. What would it take to get Edwards to come around and bring Jessica's family and her friends peace, revealing the truth about her crime and where he disposed of her?

    10. Did Edwards kill Jessica under the mistaken belief A) that she was pregnant when she really was not OR B) if she was indeed pregnant, was Chris McClanathan, a convicted sex offender she had sexual encounters in the weeks beforehand, really the true father, rather than Chris Edwards?
