Cold Case Revisited: 40 Years Since Martin County Murder, Hope Still Remains

JoAnn Bontjes was last seen leaving the Trimont Legion Club at 12:30 the morning of October 2, 1975.
A day later her car was found along Highway 4, about two miles south of Trimont.
Her shoes, purse and jacket were found in her car with the keys still in the ignition.
Martin County Chief Deputy Corey Klanderud says, "It started as a missing persons case."
But the very next day her body was discovered in a ditch by a farmer....with a gunshot wound to her head and several bruises.

Retired Chief Continues Hunt For Young Salon Owner’s Killer

It is the only unsolved homicide case in one southern Minnesota county, and a police chief is spending his retirement looking for new clues.

Someone murdered 21-year-old JoAnn Bontjes near Sherburn in 1975.

From old maps to yearbook pages, Don Mickelson has spent the last few years filling notebooks and folders with details about a young woman he never knew.

“She was a tough gal. She was a hard-nosed gal,” Mickelson said.

Strange. This Case is from Minnesota, But I have never heard of it. "Trimont" is 135 Miles and about 2 Hours from "Minneapolis". Yes it happened 40 years ago. But there are plenty of noteworthy cases even older than that. This is a Cold Case, Yes. I think they just gave up on it. She wasn't seen leaving with anyone. I think it was at least an acquaintance. Bruises, Anger. 1 shot to kill.
