Missing woman Jody Meyers believed dead as SA police search River Murray, bushland

    11 Sep 2015

Police believe missing South Australian mother Jody Meyers is dead and have identified her partner as a "person of interest" in the investigation.

A search of bushland and the River Murray around Mannum was carried out today as police hunted clues to the 20-year-old's disappearance.

Police divers from the water operations section went to the area to help search efforts, which also included mounted officers.

Detectives and local police have spoken with her family and friends, including her partner Neil Archer, who is the father of the missing woman's two-year-old son.

Police said he is considered a "person of interest" in the investigation, but did not describe him as a suspect.

"Yes, Jody Meyers' partner is a person of interest," Detective Inspector Hutchins said.

"I can't reveal exactly what he has told us but some of the areas we are searching are routes which he has indicated that he has travelled.

Police continue to search for phone, engagement ring

    14 Sep 2015

Detective Inspector Hutchins said police were also investigating whether Ms Meyers was the author of a text message sent from her phone two days after her disappearance saying she needed some space.

"That's a line of inquiry we're obviously pursuing, if somebody has obviously accessed her phone to send that message," he said.

He said although Mr Archer was the only person of interest, police were looking at several lines of inquiry.

"With these types of investigations you've always got to keep an open mind, you've got to pursue many lines of inquiry, but at this point in time he's the only person of interest," he said.

Police are yet to find Ms Meyers' mobile phone, a white Samsung Galaxy S4, or her gold engagement ring which she reportedly threw out the window of her car.

Detective Inspector Hutchins said he could not comment on who accessed Ms Meyer's bank account after her disappearance.

He said anyone who had dash cam footage or security vision around their property from the night she disappeared should come forward.

Missing Mannum woman Jody Meyers’ partner Neil Archer charged with her murder

    September 25, 2015 4:37pm

The partner of Mannum mother Jody Meyers has faced court charged with her murder hours after her body was found under a tool shed in the backyard of his parents’ property.

Neil Archer, 29, was arrested by Major Crime detectives on Thursday night and charged with Ms Meyers’ murder at Mannum late last month

The court file revealed Archer was initially refused bail by police about 4.30am this morning for a number of reasons including “to prevent the loss and destruction of evidence”.

“The location of the victim is believed to be known to police and police intend to conduct extensive searches to locate a number of items belonging to the victim that remain outstanding,” the file says.

Police this morning started searching a Mannum property occupied by Mr Archer’s parents for Ms Meyers’ body. They found it buried under concrete in a backyard tool shed

Det Insp Hutchins said police believed Ms Meyers had been murdered on the night she disappeared, becoming another victim of the domestic violence plaguing Australia.

“Unfortunately this appears to be another domestic violence related murder. Now, Jody is just another terrible statistic,” he said.

Det Inspt Hutchins said police had obtained information her body was buried under concrete in a toolshed in the backyard of Mr Archer’s parents’ property.

    ^ NO, SHE ISN'T!

I'm starting to wish that the term "domestic violence " would just be banished from all LE, all courts, all news reports... from existence.

Then we could just call it for what it is: Assault, and Murder. No different to any other assault or murder, and taken every bit as seriously as stranger-on-victim crimes.

Although I do agree with you on removing the DV term from these murder cases, as we all know, some journos like to add in their own words and twist it around so that it comes out completely different to what was actually said. So I'd like to hear the detective's entire interview.

But if they're wanting to label/relate the cases to DV why not call them Domestic Homicides.

To me, the word "domestic" makes it sound like a family matter. That's what I don't like about it.
