Endangered Child Alert issued for 5-year-old boy from Dickson

The TBI is asking for help finding an endangered child who went missing from his home in Dickson.

Joe Clyde Daniels, 5, is said to be non-verbal and autistic.

TBI agents said the boy was last seen at his home on Garners Creek Road on Tuesday night. They believe he went missing early Wednesday morning.

Emergency responders have been using helicopters, K-9 officers and dive crews to search the many nearby lakes and ponds.

"If it's at nighttime and it's dark and he scared and he's running, or whatever the situation, he could be terrified right now ... so much open land and ponds, it's hard to even fathom the situation," said family friend Lyndsay Estes.

Search Continues In Dickson For Missing 5-Year-Old

The search continued Thursday morning for a missing 5-year-old boy in Dickson County.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an Endangered Child Alert for Joseph "Joe Clyde" Daniels on Wednesday. He was last seen Tuesday night when his parents put him to bed at his residence on Garners Creek Road.

Thursday morning, Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe confirmed that there was a reported sighting of a boy matching Joseph’s description late Tuesday night/Wednesday morning walking near the road by his house.

Bledsoe said the TBI spoke with the witness and they believe the report is valid.

K9s also picked up his scent leading into a pond near his home. Authorities drained the pond and did not find anything. From there, Bledsoe said the scent abruptly dropped off.

Search crews also found what they think is his footprint. Bledsoe added that this is still a search and rescue effort.

"We’re going to be here as long as it takes. Until we can exhaust all efforts in this area," he said.

Bledsoe also asked for residents who have game cameras to check their footage to see if there's anything that might help them with their search.

The Dickson County Sheriff's Office released a statement for anyone wanting to volunteer:

“Anyone wishing to volunteer in the search for 5 year old Joe Daniels, please meet at Friendship Baptist Church at the corner of Hwy 70 West and CCC Rd. at 9 am Thursday morning. Dress appropriately and please sign in. The search is continuing throughout the night.”

Volunteers were asked not to bring UTV's or horses. Volunteers will be utilized as needed in shifts and will be required to sign-in once they get to the area.

'Credible sighting' of missing autistic boy as hundreds join search

The search continues Thursday for missing 5-year-old Joe Clyde Daniels in Dickson County as agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation look into a "credible" sighting that was reported early Wednesday.

As roughly 100 volunteers gathered Thursday morning at Friendship Baptist Church on U.S. 70 to search for the missing boy, Dickson County Sheriff Joe Bledsoe confirmed that TBI has received a tip indicating the child was spotted early Wednesday morning.

Though Bledsoe declined to comment on a specific time, he said TBI learned that the boy was seen walking on Garners Creek Road, roughly 100 yards from his home, by a passerby.

"We do have a man who came through the area early yesterday morning that saw the exact description of the child that’s missing," Bledsoe said.

Community bands together to help with search for missing Dickson boy
Volunteers boarded buses in groups of 10 or 12 Thursday to help search for five-year-old Joseph Daniels who’s been missing since Wednesday morning.

“I've got three kids of my own,” said Joanna Crain, a volunteer firefighter with Sylvia-Yellow Creek Fire Department.

“I've got a 13, an 11, and a 10 year old. If it was my kid, I'd want to be out here searching for him. I can only imagine what the parents of this baby are going through right now."

At least 400 people showed up to Friendship Baptist Church Thursday to join the search.

Some like Nancy Warren drove an hour, even bringing other volunteers with her.

Father Of Missing 5-Year-Old Describes Agonizing Search For His Autistic Son

The father of missing 5-year-old Joe Clyde Daniels spoke out for the first time since going missing, saying he is puzzled by Joe's disappearance.

Joseph Daniels talked with NewsChannel 5 Thursday night. He said he woke up to get the boys out of bed Wednesday morning - Joe slept in the same room with one of his brothers - but it quickly became apparent he was not there.

Daniels said he noticed the door was unlocked and realized his son must have gone outside sometime during the night. He said Joe has wandered off before during the day and was easily found nearby, but he had never left at night.

Many have wondered why Joe's parents haven't joined search crews to look for their boy, but Daniels said investigators suggested he and his wife not take part because their scent might distract the K-9 units from the similar scent left by their son.

Daniels told NewsChannel 5 police collected Joe’s scent from his clothing and his pillow to expose to the search dogs.

Police have questioned both Daniels and his wife and have kept in constant contact with them during the massive manhunt.

Daniels said he was very concerned that search crews have found very little sign of his son. He hopes that he is still out there somewhere - maybe lost and somehow staying warm.

However, even through the hope, he said he is seriously considering the possibility someone abducted his son.

The sheriff has said there has been no indication of foul play, but he also would not rule it out.

Joe Clyde Daniels: Search For Missing Boy Enters Day 3

Day three of the search for Joe Clyde Daniels got underway Friday in Dickson County, where they're expanding the search to about a three-mile radius.

The 5-year-old was last seen Tuesday night when his parents put him to bed at their residence on Garners Creek Road. Joe Clyde, who is non-verbal and has autism, has a history of sneaking out of his home.

Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe said Friday morning that K9s picked up another scent late Thursday night into the early-morning hours that was located about three or four miles from the house.

They're also investigating another footprint that was discovered off the roadway. K9s picked up his scene near the print and followed it along the road.

Not suspicious at all. None of the 'typical' red flags. However, I'm not an an expert in this area. I wonder why he hasn't said where he put him if he confessed?

It struck me that he said the boy "escaped." Perhaps he had a history of sneaking out & that is the word they used.

I didn't detect the urgency or fear in his voice that I would have wanted to hear, but I've listened to enough 911 calls to understand how that goes. Some people are much better actors & some don't seem to care very much.

    Ugh! So sad.
Wife & her parents have the siblings - how did she not know?

I wondered about that, too. The only answer I have is really bad.
