Clearfield County man, Justin Demko, still missing after one year
    By Brittany Boyer

A question many people are still wondering: Where is Justin Demko?

Sunday will mark one year since the Clearfield County man disappeared.

Clearfield County District Attorney, Bill Shaw told 6 News that the investigation is still ongoing.

"Law enforcement is continuing to pursue every lead that we get in the case. They're working on it today in a matter of fact," he said.

Justin Lewis Demko lived at 406 East 20th Street in Clearfield. He was 27 at the time he was missing.

Authorities said Demko was first reported missing to the Lawrence Township Police Department on July 1, 2011.

Officials said that after information was received on the case, a coordinated search was conducted to locate items of evidence that would assist in locating Demko.

On August 26 and August 27 search teams combed properties near the R.J. Corman Rail Yard in Clearfield Borough. Authorities say the search also included properties behind the ethanol plant and along the Susquehanna River.

Shaw said additional information learned during the search caused investigators to search another site in the Guinea Hill Road area of Lawrence Township.

Multiple agencies assisted in this effort. Shaw told 6 News that these weren't the only searches conducted in this investigation.

"They have searched other locations where we have received tips. So far it has been unsuccessful, but they're still working at it," he said.

Shaw said that police are also looking into the suicide of the missing man's brother. In late November Shawn Demko had a warrant out for his arrest. When police came to his house he refused to come out. Officials said that resulted in a seven-hour standoff. Police said it ended when Shawn Demko fatally shot himself.

"The significance of that event is still being considered. That's one consideration for law enforcement. That is something to look at," he said.

As this Sunday marks the one-year anniversary from when Demko went missing, Shaw said that he just wants to be able to provide closure for the family.

"I'm sure they would like to have some closure to the investigation. They would like to know where is this young man," he said.

Clearfield County crimestoppers are offering a cash reward for this investigation. They are looking for people that may know the whereabouts of Demko.

Authorities will not comment on whether Demko's disappearance is considered foul play.
