3-year-old girl kidnapped from Birmingham birthday party; Amber Alert cites ‘extreme danger’

A search is underway for a 3-year-old girl who police believe was kidnapped while she was attending a birthday party.

Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney vanished about 8:30 p.m. Saturday from Tom Brown Village public housing community in Avondale. She was outside with friends when she disappeared.

According to other children, a man and a woman in a dark SUV picked up Kamille. An 11-year-old boy said he saw a man get out of the SUV, pick up Kamille and put her in the vehicle. Police do not believe this is a custodial issue. Both of Kamille’s parents as well as her extended family are on the scene.

Kamille was wearing a pink t-shirt with a Minnie Mouse/leopard print design and leopard print shorts. She had in yellow, white and blue hair bows. Her shoes were found in the parking lot so police believe she is barefoot.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency at 11:45 p.m. issued an emergency Amber Alert. Kamille is 3-feet tall and weighs 60 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair.

Birmingham police are searching the apartment complex on foot, using flashlights to check in parked vehicles. More police continue to arrive at the scene to help in the search.

The suspect vehicle is a blue or black SUV, possibly a Toyota 4-Runner, with rims and a “peanut butter brown” protruding bumper. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately or the Birmingham Police Department at 205-254-0841. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

“An abduction like this, a child just being taken off the street, is in no way common to the city of Birmingham,” Birmingham Deputy Chief Scott Praytor told AL.com. “We’re trying to make sure we get this child back to her family.”

Local authorities have been in touch with the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service, according to the newspaper.

Praytor had a message for girl’s captors: “We would ask you to not take this any further. You can take her to a fire station, a police station, a hospital, anywhere you can drop the child off safely so she can be returned to her family.

“We have a family that is very upset, friends that are very upset, a community that is very upset right now,’’ he said. “We will remain on this case until we find Kamille.”

3 "Amber Alerts" in the last month. One is too many. But it's getting worse. And today everyone knows there's Cameras and people generally watch Kids more closely now. This little girl is so cute and looks so happy. I hope this happy ending.

Yeah, 3 very brazen abductions recently. And legitimate stranger abductions are pretty rare (less than 1% of all reported abductions). Unfortunately they also have the worst statistics for being found safe. Hoping Kamille will beat those statistics.

That is a sad fact. No one wants to say it. But I fear that for "Dulce" and especially "Serenity".

Kamille 'Cupcake’ McKinney abduction: Man detained after 3-year-old taken from Birmingham birthday party

The search for a 3-year-old girl abducted from a birthday part in Birmingham Saturday night saw a major break exactly 24 hours after her disappearance when a suspect vehicle was found and a person of interest taken into custody.

Birmingham police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies about 8 p.m. Sunday descended upon Woodside Condominiums on Shadowood Circle off Roebuck Parkway across from the Cathedral of the Cross. Police officials confirmed the Toyota Sequoia was recovered and the man depicted in surveillance photos released by police was taken into custody.

“I feel a little better that they got him but the search goes on because Cupcake still isn’t home,'' said her father, 27-year-old Dominic McKinney. “We’re still not stopping. I feel better that they caught him, I do, but until I see that baby, they can catch him all day. We will find her tonight.”

Never good when a suspect is found and the child is not.
I hope Kamille is with the possible female accomplice.

I hope it is the guy. But the vehicle isn't the same. Of course people have two vehicles. If it is this idiot. It is infuriating he is so happy in the pictures. And yes. Where is this Child?.

Given that the vehicle description was done by an 11-year-old child, I think it was a pretty good job! Blue Toyota with beige "protruding" bumper.
No doubt his description led to them finding the vehicle in surrounding surveillance videos and led to the suspect.

Man suspected of snatching three-year-old girl from Alabama birthday party is caught after surveillance images are released - as police reveal they are still searching for the toddler

Police have detained a man suspected of snatching an Alabama toddler from a birthday party as they continue the search for the missing three-year-old.

Police said a white woman and a black man were suspected of snatching Kamille.

They believe the couple were using candy to entice children.

The man was detained for questioning on Sunday night after a person spotted the vehicle outside the Woodside Condominiums and alerted authorities.

Police said they are searching the surrounding area for the little girl.

The condominiums are about 10 miles from the area where Kamille was abducted.

It appears TWO suspects have been taken into custody.

The vehicle was discovered when condominium resident Ricardo McGhee got off work and noticed the SUV parked outside the building. He conferred with a neighbor about whether he also though it looked like the suspect vehicle released by police. Both agreed it was, and their neighbor was the man depicted in the photos released by police. "We both called 911,'' McGhee said. “It wasn’t just me.”

McGhee said they stood watch over the vehicle and police were quickly on the scene. "They drew down on us,'' he said.

Officers took the male suspect and his girlfriend, a black female, into custody. McGhee said the man has only lived there a short time. "I don’t know him personally,'' McGhee said. “But it’s bugging me because i have a child that was just born on Labor Day and he obviously was looking for a child.”

McGhee said he hopes the little girl is quickly found. "I just hurt for the family,'' he said.
