Key piece of evidence sent to the US in bid to find murdered Melbourne mother Karen Ristevski

A KEY piece of evidence has been sent to the United States in the hope that technical experts there can crack the case of the disappearance of Melbourne mother Karen Ristevski.
Detectives have also re-examined hundreds of hours of closed circuit television footage in their efforts to discover what happened to her.
Investigators have also recently spoken to the 47-year-old’s husband, Borce Ristevski, but he has not been formally interviewed again.
Police believe that Mrs Ristevski probably met with foul play and that her body was then hidden.
In the last week, they have spoken to her stepson, Anthony Rickard, as they seek to iron out details of his account of his dealings with her.
It is understood that police do not believe that Mr Rickard had any involvement in her disappearance.
Victoria Police’s Acting Sergeant Melissa Seach said: “The investigation remains active and continuing.
We will not be providing a running commentary on the case.”

Police search for missing mum Karen Ristevski

    David Hurley, Herald Sun
    December 19, 2016 5:21pm

POLICE are confident they will find out what happened to missing mother Karen Ristevski, as officers search rural properties northwest of Melbourne in a major development in the case.
Dozens of police including Missing Persons Squad detectives, Search and Rescue members, Mounted Branch, Air Wing, uniform members and the Dog Squad are searching rural areas around Toolern Vale and Gisborne.

Ms Ristevski was last seen at her home address on Oakley Drive, Avondale Heights about 10am on Wednesday 29 June.

Detective Inspector Stephen Dennis, from the Missing Persons Squad, said inquiries had brought police to the area.
“We have performed quite an extensive search of this area,” he said.
“We are looking for anything that can assist us with our investigation.
“It is the most significant search we have conducted to date.
“We are very keen to search this area as thoroughly as we can.”

Insp Dennis refused to say whether Ms Ristevski’s handbag had yet been found.

“We are searching grassland, farmland, we are searching wooded areas and creeks,” he said.
“It is quite an extensive area of farmland, wooded country and there is some fairly undulating country out there.”
Insp Dennis said Victoria Police remain confident the case will be solved.
“We are confident we will find out what happened,” he said.
“There has been ongoing (police) contact with the family throughout the investigation.
“We are looking at all options at this stage. We are not ruling anything in or out.
“The investigation is ongoing. There has been ongoing discussions with various members of the family.
“Various members of the family have been cooperative.
SES volunteers are helping with the search, which is taking place between Black Hill Road and Gisborne Road.
“Investigators are appealing for anyone that resides in this area to consider checking their properties for any changes or any suspicious activity
since the disappearance of Karen,” Victoria Police said.
In 2012 the body of murdered Brunswick woman Jill Meagher was found in a shallow grave at Blackhill Rd, after her killer Adrian Bayley led police there.

    More to come ...

Marly posted a map of the cell phone pings from an article dated 31st August 2016

If the Police have checked the CCTV footage, they may also have found something substantial - they are back in the same area.

I hope there is news by Christmas for Karens Family.

I'm wondering if it had anything to do with whatever it was they sent to the US for forensic analysis.

Hopefully there was something in those bags that will end this nightmare of not knowing for her poor daughter.
If she is found there, those residents in that street will feel so upset to have this happen again on their door step, twice in 4 years.
Im wandering if that property with the dam is actually Ristevski owned or not.

Mount Macedon body: Police have not returned to site, as forensic tests conducted

The unidentified body was removed from the scene late on Monday night and will undergo testing.
Forensic investigators and homicide squad detectives spent more than eight hours working at the site, near a intersection of the two dirt roads close to the outskirts of Mount Macedon.
It is understood the body was escorted to Melbourne by a number of detectives.
The body was found by a bushwalker about 12.30pm Monday and police at the scene said the body was that of a woman and was "considerably decomposed", the Bendigo Advertiser reported.
The scene is not far from an area where police searched for Karen Ristevski in December.
About 6.45pm, a couple turned up at scene and told officers they had previously seen a man in the area with a shovel and made a joke to him about burying a body.
After recounting the story to uniformed officers, the couple was taken away from the media contingent to behind the police cordon.
Mount Macedon is a 23 minute-drive from Toolern Vale, and a 15 minute-drive from Gisborne.
Fairfax Media understands the Ristevski family is aware of the discovery, but has not been formally notified by police.
Ms Ristevski's husband, Borce, has not responded to calls.
