Missing Colorado mom has ties to Washington, phone pinged in Idaho

Police are searching for a 29-year-old Colorado woman who has been missing since Thanksgiving.

Kelsey Berreth is the mother of a 1-year-old child. She was last seen Nov. 22 in Woodland Park, Colorado.

On Nov. 25, Berreth’s mom called the police to do a welfare check on the woman. When officers arrived, there was no sign of Berreth.

Woodland Park Police told EastIdahoNews.com that Berreth’s phone pinged near Gooding, Idaho on Nov. 25. Idaho State Police put out a bulletin to be on the lookout for Berreth.

Kelsey's brother Clint, who lives in Tacoma, told Q13 News they don't know what could have happened to her. It's unclear if there was any foul play, he said.

"We really have no idea, we don’t have any more information on it," Clint told Q13 News. "She’s a flight instructor ... never done anything like this."

Find Kelsey: Colorado mother-of-one, 29, last seen at a grocery store on Thanksgiving, simply vanishes as police trace cell phone ping in Idaho

Police are searching for a Colorado flight instructor who disappeared from a grocery store on Thanksgiving.

Mom-of-one Kelsey Berreth, 29, was last seen at a grocery store in Woodland Park on November 22. Three days later, Berreth’s mother called police.

Officers who were sent to conduct a welfare check in her home did not find her, according to EastIdahoNews.com.

It's unclear who was looking after her child.

Police in Woodland Park said that Berreth’s phone pinged near Gooding, Idaho sometime on November 25.

'It could just be a false ping, or it could be the actual last location for the activity of that phone,' Woodland Park police Commander Chris Adams told KEPR-TV.

Her family posted a notice on Facebook saying that the purse was the only thing missing from her home.

Berreth’s makeup kit, suitcases, and car are still at home.

Kelsey Berreth Missing: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Kelsey Berreth, a 29-year-old mother and flight instructor, has been missing since Thanksgiving Day, and authorities and loved ones are ramping up the efforts to find her.

There is a Facebook page devoted to finding Kelsey Berreth. The young mother’s disappearance has raised great concern because her cell phone pinged 700 miles away from where she was last seen, according to Fox News. In addition, her belongings were left behind, and her family says it’s not like Kelsey to disappear, especially because she has a very young daughter.

However, authorities have stopped short of saying they think foul play is involved.

“If she’s out there and doesn’t want to be contacted, just let us know that she’s safe and we’ll let her family know,” said Cmdr. Chris Adams of the Woodland Park Police Department to CBS News.

    1. Kelsey Was Seen at a Colorado Grocery Store & Then Vanished

Kelsey was last spotted at a Safeway supermarket near her Colorado home, Fox News reports. When her mother reported her missing on December 2, no sign of Kelsey Berreth could be found.

Kelsey was shopping with her daughter at the Safeway, the police chief said in a news conference. She then exchanged her daughter with her fiancee that day, according to the chief.

    2. Kelsey Berreth Is a Pilot Who Likes Hiking

“Missing Since Nov. 22nd, 2018 – She is a mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend…” the page reads. “She is also a Pilot and instructs in Pueblo, CO., loves hiking, running and bicycling.” Kelsey was off work on the 22nd, and then she “got a hold of her employer and advised she was going to be off,” the police chief said.

    3. Kelsey’s Brother Says She Didn’t Pack But Her Purse Is Missing

Kelsey’s brother, Clint Berreth, posted on Facebook, “After arriving at Kelsey’s house last night and combing through her things, we know 1 thing is certain. Kelsey did not pack to go anywhere. All luggage is here. Her purse is all that seems to have gone.” Her cars are not missing, CBS News reports.

    4. Kelsey’s Phone Pinged in Idaho, Reports Say

According to Fox News, Kelsey’s phone “reportedly pinged more than 700 miles away in Idaho days after she vanished.”

The Kelsey Facebook page further noted, “Authorities reported recently that her cell phone was pinged to Gooding, Idaho, which is about 35 miles north of Twin Falls, and Idaho State Police are now involved in investigating her disappearance.” CBS News reported that Berreth has family near that location.

A spokesman for the Idaho State Police told East Idaho News that they had received a bulletin “that Berreth could possibly be in the state but that is the extent of their investigation.”

    5. Kelsey Berreth Is the Mother of a Toddler & Had a Fiance

Kelsey’s daughter is only 1-years-old. Her daughter is safe, according to the Facebook page devoted to finding her.

The man in the above photo, shared by the Kelsey Berreth Facebook page, was not identified. The post with it reads, “Kelsey’s family desperately needs her back. Please call Woodland Park Police Dept. @ 719-687-9262 with any information. Someone must have seen or spoken with her Thanksgiving Day or since. This photo was taken 1 year ago.” However, the police chief said that Kelsey’s fiancee is named Patrick Frasee, According to KDVR, “He told police the last text he received from her phone was on November 25th. Police said Kelsey’s mother reported her missing on December 2nd.”

The child is with the father, Patrick, police said in a news conference, and Frasee said they exchanged the child on November 22 and he said that was the last time he saw Kelsey. A reporter asked why Patrick Frasee was not at the press conference since he was invited, and the police chief said, “You have to ask him,” and said he was being cooperative. He said the pair did not live together but were engaged.

“At this point he is the father of Kelsey’s daughter and we’re going to leave it at that. This is a missing persons case,” Chief De Young said at a news conference.

Text sent from missing mom’s phone days after she vanished

A text message was sent from the phone of a missing Colorado mother days after she was last seen grocery shopping on Thanksgiving, police said Monday.

Doss Aviation, a Colorado Springs flight school, got a text from one of its instructors, Kelsey Berreth, on Nov. 25 telling the school she was taking the next week off, Woodland Park Police told reporters.

But the mom of one hadn’t been seen by family and friends for days at the time of the text. She was last spotted on surveillance footage shopping in a Safeway on Nov. 22.

Frazee also received a text from his fiancee’s phone Nov. 25, De Young said. Berreth’s phone last pinged on Nov. 25 in Idaho, where her mother lives.

The last time Kelsey Berreth was seen she was wearing a white shirt, grey sweater and blue pants. It was Thanksgiving day, but before she and her family could dig into the turkey, she was gone.

The 29-year-old flight instructor from Woodland Park, in Teller County, has been missing for more than two weeks. As the search continues, her family grows more worried about her safety and urges anyone with information to contact police.

“She’s not the kind that runs off,” Berreth’s mother, Cheryl, said Monday at a news conference. “This is completely out of character.”

Cheryl Berreth reported her daughter missing just after noon on Dec. 2, Woodland Park Police Chief Miles De Young said at the news conference.

When asked whether investigators considered the disappearance suspicious, De Young said, “I have nothing to indicate other than that it is a missing persons case.”

Kelsey Berreth texted her employer, Doss Aviation in Pueblo, on Nov. 25 to say she would not be at work the following week. She also texted her fiancé, Patrick, that day. He told police that he had not seen Berreth since Thanksgiving, when they exchanged custody of their 1-year-old daughter, De Young said. The girl is with her father, who has cooperated with investigators.

Video footage from cameras at a local Safeway grocery store showed Berreth shopping with her daughter at about noon on Nov. 22. That was the last time she was seen publicly, De Young said.

Berreth’s phone pinged a tower near Gooding, Idaho, at 5:13 p.m. Nov. 25, De Young said. According to information posted on a Facebook page set up to track the search, Berreth has family in Idaho and Washington.

Investigators have searched Berreth’s home and work and have not identified anybody as a suspect in the missing persons case, De Young said.

Why didn't the fiance report her missing?
What did the text say to the fiance?
Why wasn't the fiance at the presser?
Why isn't the fiance right at the front of the search begging for her return?
    Why didn't they live together?
Why are they so secretive about if the fiance has the baby?

Missing 29-year-old mother Kelsey Berreth apparently had planned to be gone from her job as a flight instructor for Doss Aviation in Pueblo for a week after Thanksgiving.

But she still hasn’t returned home.

Now a nationwide search is underway for Berreth, who moved to Woodland Park in 2016 with her fiance, the father of her 1-year-old daughter
Fourteen news cameras were at a news conference Monday at City Hall, where Police Chief Miles De Young and mother Cheryl Berreth gave an update on the case, after national ABC News reports Sunday night and Monday morning.

“This is a missing person case, and right now, there are a lot more questions than there are answers,” said Susan Medina, spokeswoman for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. “Our bottom line is: We want to find Kelsey.”

Cheryl Berreth said she hasn’t heard from her daughter in 19 days. She reported her missing Dec. 2.

Police checked Kelsey’s apartment, where cold baked cinnamon rolls were on the counter, and she had left her makeup bag, two vehicles, suitcases and other possessions, said Police Chief Miles De Young.

Armed with a search warrant, they also combed through her vehicles, De Young said.

“She’s not the kind that runs off,” her mother said. “This is completely out of character. She loves her God, family and friends, her job. She’s reliable, considerate, honest.”

Police have no suspects, De Young said.

Officers have interviewed her fiance, Patrick Frazee. Asked whether police will search his home, De Young said, “That’s something we’re going to have to look into. All options are on the table. She’s a missing person. We’re going to explore every avenue.”

Police had not responded to domestic violence calls involving the couple.

Frazee said he last saw Kelsey on Thanksgiving, when she handed off their daughter to him, De Young said. He never lived with Kelsey, Cheryl Berreth said. Frazee was not at the news conference.

Asked whether he is a suspect, De Young said, “At this point, he is the father of Kelsey’s daughter.”

Surveillance cameras at the local Safeway store show Kelsey buying groceries with her daughter at 12:22 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Frazee told police he last heard from her three days later, on Nov. 25, the day she told her boss she wouldn’t be at work that week.
Kelsey works in the Pueblo office of Doss Aviation, which “provides flight training for the U.S. military and international armed services,” a spokeswoman confirmed.

“We are aware of the current missing persons investigation by local authorities,” she said. “We extend our support to the family of Ms. Berreth and hope for her immediate safe return.”

The company does not release information on employees, she said, so she could not say how long Kelsey has worked there.

Kelsey’s cellphone pinged in southern Idaho, in a town called Gooding, on Nov. 25, De Young said. Although she has family in Idaho, Kelsey never showed up at relatives’ homes there, nor had she voiced plans to go there, Cheryl Berreth said on Facebook.

Woodland Park’s Cody Ritchie, who said he’s lived in the mountain community of about 8,000 residents off and on for a few years, said he saw the family’s pleas on Facebook to find Kelsey.

“That’s sad,” Ritchie said Monday in the Safeway parking lot. “This is a small town with a friendly vibe, so it’s kind of crazy that happened. I hope she’s all right.”

The CBI and FBI are working the case with local law enforcement, including the Teller County Sheriff’s Office.

“We have a number of agents and officers asking the same questions, conducting interviews in the community, with multiple canvasses conducted,” said the CBI’s Medina.

Report information about Kelsey Berreth to police at 719-687-9262, or email Cmdr. Christopher Adams, cadams@city-woodlandpark.org.

    Found the text msg article.
Officers were able to contact her place of employment at Doss Aviation in Pueblo, Colorado and were advised that they had received a text from Kelsey's phone on the 25th of November stating she would not be into work the following week," said Woodland Park Police Chief Miles DeYoung.

Berreth's mother Cheryl contacted Berreth's fiance, Patrick Frazee, who said Nov. 25 was also the last day he had received a message from her phone.

On that date, Berreth's phone pinged near Gooding, Idaho, 800 miles from Woodland Park.

Frazee was the last known person to see Berreth, according to DeYoung.

"Patrick told officers he hadn’t seen her since Thanksgiving, November 22nd, when they exchanged their daughter.”

Prior to that meeting, Berreth was caught on surveillance at the Woodland Park Safeway, the last confirmed sighting.
We’ve reviewed video from the local Safeway grocery store and it showed Kelsey shopping with her daughter Kaleigh on November 22 at about 12:27 p.m. That’s the last time Kelsey was seen," DeYoung said.

DeYoung said Frazee was cooperating with the investigation but declined to speak at the news conference Monday.

Cheryl Berreth said her daughter was not the type to leave without telling anyone.

"She’s not the kind who runs off. This is completely out of character. Kelsey loves her god, she loves her family and friends, and she loves her job. She’s reliable, considerate and honest," said Cheryl Berreth.

A vigil was held over the weekend by her brother-in-law in Washington state, where she also has some relatives. Online, thousands are following the search, with more than 9,000 people following the "Missing Mother - Kelsey Berreth Facebook page.
DeYoung said the department was considering the disappearance a missing persons case and currently did not have a suspect.

"Our sole goal is to get Kelsey out in front of everyone. Like I said, she doesn’t run off, and somebody knows where she’s at. Kelsey, we just want you home. Call us if you can. And we won’t quit looking," Cheryl Berreth said.

"She" text. To her job and apparently to her fiance.

It sounds to me like whoever is sending those messages is unable to call, because they are not Kelsey.

I wonder what the odd situation is with them living apart but having a daughter together. They way they wrote that they "exchanged their daughter." Doesn't seem right.

The only thing I could think of that hasn't been brought up is the fact that she is a flight instructor. Are any planes missing? A relative of mine is a flight instructor at a very small, rural airport. It's not uncommon for him to go and take a "joy ride" in one of the planes he uses. He took our family one time, and there was no one there at the airport, and all of the planes looked the same that they used for flight lessons.
The texts make it more sinister, though, imho. Has the fiance been accounted for the whole time? A 700 mile round trip isn't an afternoon drive. It seems like someone would have noticed him missing if her phone truly last pinged in Idaho, and he was resonsible. What about the mom? Were there any problems between them that she might have come down for an impromptu visit? For someone to leave their house, but take their purse, seems like someone she knew well dropped by and picked her up.

or put her phone in/on another random vehicle such as sitting it on the back of a big rig so it would fall off or be found at some random location. Just grasping at straws here.
