This article pretty well tells Kellsie's story. And a sad story it is. Let's see if someone knows something.

Denver woman disappears after sending ultrasound to boyfriend

Kelsie Schelling met Donthe Isiah Lucas at Northeastern Junior College in 2010. She was taking general courses in preparation for majoring in psychology. Donthe was a standout basketball player from Central High School in Pueblo. He was a forward for the Plainsmen.

Lucas talked about his aspirations of going to the NBA. After two years at Northeastern, Schelling went to Vanguard University, a Christian school in Costa Mesa, Calif., and Lucas went to Emporia State University in Kansas, hoping to play ball for the Division 1 school.

Schelling moved into an apartment in Denver at the end of the first semester and got a job at Floor & Decor, a Highlands Ranch store.

She and Donthe continued to correspond, and during the Christmas break Donthe drove from Kansas to Denver and stayed with Kelsie, her mother, Laura Saxton of Yuma, says.

Not long afterward, she took a home pregnancy test and learned she was pregnant. Kelsie told her mother that Donthe wasn’t happy about the pregnancy.

“He was upset. She said they were so young. She made excuses for him,” Saxton said her daughter told her. “She wasn’t sure he would be involved in their lives.”

But sometimes he gave mixed signals. Donthe would tell Kelsie at times that he would take the baby away from her after the child was born.

“She was bound and determined to have the baby. She was really excited to be a mom,” Saxton said.

By early February, however, Donthe seemed to be coming around, indicating that he did wish to be involved in his child’s life.

He had grown up without a father and it was important to him that his child would have a father. That was also very important to Kelsie, she told her mother, but she was prepared to raise the child as a single mother if need be.

On Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, Donthe sent a series of e-mails to Kelsie trying to persuade her to drive the two hours to his home in Pueblo after she worked at Floor & Decor. It was apparent by the texting exchange that she had an appointment with a doctor the next morning and Donthe knew about it.

He wrote back that he had something he wished to give her. When she asked what it was, he wrote, “You need to come and see for yourself.”

Parents of missing Denver woman, Kelsie Schelling sue boyfriend, Pueblo police in 'wrongful death'

Schelling's body has never been found

DENVER - Two years after the disappearance of a 22-year-old pregnant Denver woman, her parents have filed a federal lawsuit against her boyfriend for "wrongful death" and Pueblo police investigators for "deliberately obstructing" the investigation of the "killing."

Kelsie Schelling's body, however, has never been found.

She vanished on the night of Feb. 4, 2013, after she drove to Pueblo to meet her boyfriend, Donthe Lucas, to tell him she was two months pregnant with his child, according to the lawsuit.

Police said surveillance video showed Schelling's car was parked at a Walmart in Pueblo on Feb. 5. The same video showed an unidentified man getting into the car on Feb. 6 and driving off. Police said the car was left at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital about 24 hours later.

News5 Investigates: Kelsie Schelling's family files amended lawsuit against the City of Pueblo and police department

They believe Kelsie met with foul play, and are pointing the finger at Kelsie's boyfriend, Donthe Lucas, the last known person to allegedly see Kelsie alive.

Surveillance video from a Wal-Mart parking lot shows a man driving off with Kelsie's car. A week later, the car was found abandoned at Saint Mary Corwin Medical Center.

Police released photos to the public which are grainy.

In the lawsuit, Saxton claims the police department refused to send the video and images off to the FBI for further enhancement to see whether they can ID the man.

The suit also claims Det. Neal Robinson searched Kelsie's car and told the family the car was wiped clean and that no evidence was recovered. According to Saxton, a year later, Robinson confessed he had lied.

Bodily fluids had been recovered, but had not been submitted for testing, according to Saxton.

Schelling's family also alleges the police department never searched Lake Minnequa following a tip.

    ......................... snip ............................

The amended lawsuit adds a fourth claim of relief for civil conspiracy, alleging the police department and Lucas' family worked together to prevent the Schelling family from accessing evidence and other information pertaining to their daughters case.

The family says the police department interfered with their ability to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the Lucas family before the statute of limitations expired.

Court Document: Kelsie Schelling's boyfriend listed as person of interest

    PUEBLO, Colo. -

The family of a Denver woman who disappeared in Pueblo in 2013 filed a lawsuit claiming the police department mishandled the case. Now the lawyer representing the city and the officers named in the suit is responding.

    Person of interest

In the motion filed by the defense, it states Donthe Lucas is a person of interest in the investigation. Lucas is the purported boyfriend of Kelsie Schelling, 22, who was eight weeks pregnant when she drove to Pueblo and disappeared. According to Schelling's family, Lucas is also the father of Schelling's unborn baby.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 contacted Deputy Chief Andy McLachlan, a defendant in the lawsuit, about the motion. McLachlan said he was unaware that his lawyer, Gordon Vaughan, had listed Lucas has a person of interest in the motion, but McLachlan said Lucas is not and did not know why the lawyer wrote that.

"I'm not the lawyer," McLachlan said. "I don't know what the lawyer writes."

In an interview with KRDO NewsChannel 13 in February, McLachlan said there were no persons of interest in the case.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 asked Vaughan why Lucas was listed as a person of interest, but he said he had no comment on the investigation.

Perhaps someone should tell Pueblo LE that you do NOT need a body to win a murder conviction.

Circumstantial evidence is HUGE in this case.

what the heck are they waiting for?

could this be considered double murder if there is proof of a pregnancy?

If you look at some of the first posts that give the timeline, you see that she allegedly texted him at 12:30 and said something to the effect she'd waited over an hour, blah, blah, blah.

YET!! In the video captures, you see the b/f drive away in her car at 11:30.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he was sending the texts from her phone to his phone, yet the two phones were in the same proximity.

    It's total premeditation, IMHO.

    Oh, allegedly!

I'm not sure. It usually depends on the State Laws. Some states the baby has to be viable. She was only eight weeks.
There's Lacey's Law, but I think that's only on Federal Land.

    Oh, here:

    FETAL HOMICIDE LAWS
Colorado Colo. Rev. Stat. §18-1.3-401 (13) specifies that a court shall sentence a defendant convicted of committing specified offenses against a pregnant woman, if the defendant knew or reasonably should have known that the victim was pregnant, to a term of at least the midpoint, but not more than twice the maximum, of the presumptive range for the punishment of the offense.

Colo. Rev. Stat. §18-1.3-501 (6) establishes that a court shall sentence a defendant convicted of assault in the third degree to a term of imprisonment of at least six months, but not longer than the maximum sentence authorized for the offense, if the victim of the assault was a pregnant woman and the defendant knew or should have known that the victim was pregnant.
Colo. Rev. Stat. §18-1.3-1201 defines aggravating factors in the sentence of death or life imprisonment. The law defines the intentional killing of a pregnant woman with the knowledge that she was pregnant as an aggravating factor.

    http://www.ncsl.org/research/health/fetal-homicide-state-laws.aspx

Oh, it doesn't look like double murder, but it is an aggravating factor, ie allowable for life or death.

Judge recommends dismissal of Schelling lawsuit against Pueblo police

A U.S magistrate judge has recommended the dismissal of a lawsuit against the Pueblo Police Department regarding the disappearance of Kelsie Schelling.

Schelling's parents filed the suit in April, accusing police of wrongdoing in the investigation. The pregnant 22-year-old has been missing for more than two years, with no new leads.

They are also suing Schelling's boyfriend Donthe Lucas and his family for wrongful death. That part of the lawsuit remains open, but police may soon be in the clear.

Unsolved: Mother's Search For Missing Daughter Kelsie Schelling

"I don't see any signs of my old self, I've changed so drastically in my personality, in everything, that I don't even relate to who Laura used to be," said Laura Saxton.

Saxton's life changed forever on February 4th of 2013. Her daughter, Kelsie Schelling, disappeared. That night, Kelsie headed to Pueblo to visit her boyfriend, Donthe Lucas. Just that morning Schelling confirmed she was two months pregnant with their child.

"We know that she and Donthe met," said Saxton. "He has admitted that they met, but what transpired after is where the lies begin and where the statements don't match the physical evidence that we have."

Kelsie Schelling went missing from Pueblo, Colorado on February 4, 2013, after driving there from Denver to meet her boyfriend, Donthe Lucas. Kelsie, then 22, was two months pregnant with the couple's child. Video released by the Pueblo Police Department shows a person driving Kelsie's car out of a Walmart parking lot. The car was found a week later abandoned at Saint Mary Corwin Medical Center. The Schelling family filed a lawsuit earlier this year against the Lucas family, several police officers, and the city of Pueblo. The lawsuit remains pending. If you have any information about Kelsie's disappearance, please contact the Pueblo Crime Stoppers at (719) 542-7867.

Parents of missing Denver woman, Kelsie Schelling sue boyfriend, Pueblo police in 'wrongful death'

Donthe Lucas, a 6-foot-8 former basketball star at Pueblo's Central High School and Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, has never been arrested or charged in connection with her disappearance or death.

However, the woman's parents, Doug Schelling and Laura Saxton, filed the lawsuit against Donthe Lucas, his mother, Sara, his grandmother, Vivian, and another family member, Dawn Shay Lucas.

"Kelsie Schelling was feloniously killed when Donthe Lucas committed first-degree murder, second-degree murder, or manslaughter against Kelsie and Sara Lucas and Lucas acted as co-conspirators or accomplices during or after the killing," the lawsuit claims.

Friends And Family Search For Kelsie Schelling

More than three years after Kelsie Schelling vanished while visiting Pueblo, volunteers are searching new areas for any clue to her disappearance.

Volunteers on foot and horseback searched a field near the Pueblo airport for any sign on Schelling. They're focused on areas that law enforcement is unlikely to investigate.

Laurie Ann Riddock/Search organizer: "Agencies don't go out to search random fields and that's what we're there for because if she's there we can call them to come out and do a thorough search, so we get closer every day."

Unfortunately the search didn't turn up any new clues to Kelsie's disappearance, but her family says it's still a positive thing. They say it lets them cross another search area off of their list, and it also helps keep Kelsie's story on the public's mind, something that could be vital to bringing her home.
