According to officials, the parents of Kenneth Howard realized he was missing at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at a home located on Kenneth Combs Road, off of Rt. 7 and less than one mile from the Floyd County line. The father reported to officials that he was on the other side of the house, and the toddler was last seen at the corner of the house.

When they realized he was missing, they started looking for him, then called the South Magoffin Volunteer Fire Department, whose members helped search for the child for approximately half an hour before calling 911. Kentucky State Police, Magoffin County Sheriff Department, Magoffin County Rescue Squad and other agencies then joined the search, and are still looking at present time.

Dogs and their handlers did an extensive search of the area until approximately 6:30 a.m., until the dogs were too tired to continue. Another group of approximately a half a dozen dogs have been out searching since 10:30 a.m., with another group of dogs on their way to the area.

Pikeville Emergency Management used thermal drones to scan the area and KSP has deployed helicopters to assist in the search, but the area is described as being dense with tree coverage and hills.

Officials tell us there have been no signs or clues of the toddler’s whereabouts.

As far as volunteers, right now the area is covered with trained search-and-rescue volunteers, but if that changes, we will announce the need for more volunteers as needed.

Kenneth Howard is described as having blonde hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing red jogging pants, sandals and a gray Avengers t-shirt.

The official search was suspended for a time today, but is working again. Other volunteers are looking for Kenneth.

There is a wooded hillside behind and around the boy's home at the end of a hollow. The search grid is a half-mile radius from the house.

Two helicopters were called out to the area along with several search dogs. The dogs went over the area several times in the 24-hours-plus since Kenneth first disappeared.

“I mean how far can a 22-month-old child get? So at this time, we’re just concentrating on this area," said Magoffin County Sheriff Carson Montgomery.

One challenge the teams face is the terrain. It's covered in trees and brush, and it's steep. Crews told WKYT they've had to use ropes to get down in a ravine. They also used a side-by-side and almost flipped at one point.

Some are even more concerned because of the cooler weather and rainy conditions that have occurred since his disappearance.

"It's gut-wrenching. It really is," emergency manager and family friend Robert Prater said. "As cool as it got last night and the rain, you start to worry about hypothermia."

Search and rescue leaders say they've exhausted all of their resources and have done everything they know to do until they get more information from investigators.

It's unclear what Kenneth's parents were doing when he went missing.

Teams from all over the region are continuing to search around the southern Magoffin Co home where family members say 22-month-old Kenneth Howard was last seen. Crews have expanded their search radius about a mile from the home & over into Floyd Co.

Still nothing today?? With the terrain conditions they have talked about in the news I don't think the outcome is going to be positive. He's just so little, I don't know how much cold overnight he could take. I hope I'm wrong and he comes back to his family safe!

Magoffin County toddler search expands to area one mile from home

Search crews have continued searching the woods around the family's home and have moved some teams about a mile down the road near another hillside just across the line into Floyd County.

Investigators are looking for 22-month-old Kenneth Howard. Search leaders say they were contacted approximately one hour after Howard went missing Sunday night. Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation, and it is being considered a missing person case.

Race against the clock: Crews bring in horses to search for missing toddler

Kentucky State Police is bringing in horses to continue the search for a missing Magoffin County toddler.

Anyone who wants to help search is welcome. Police are not turning any volunteers away.

Family tells us 22-month-old Kenneth Howard was home with his mother and father on Mother's Day evening when he went missing.

We are told Kenneth's mother was at the hospital Tuesday while crews searched for her son. She was treated for dehydration and is back home resting.

This is the third day of the search. We will update this throughout the day.

A missing child from Magoffin County was found safely by rescue crews Wednesday, although he was in a potentially deadly situation, rescue crews say.

Kenneth Howard was found on a 50-foot cliff along Raccoon Road in the Hueysville area, according to Magoffin Rescue Squad Director Carter Conley. Rescue crews heard crying and used a basket to get to Kenneth, who's only 22 months old.

Kenneth was found about 1,755 feet from home on old mine property near the Floyd/Magoffin County line. Family members say they believe he may have walked out the back door of the home.

Other than some dehydration, Kenneth is said to doing OK. A helicopter was sent to fly him to a pediatric trauma center.

An extensive search effort has been underway all week. It involved helicopters, drones with thermal cameras, K-9 search teams, off-road vehicles and others searching on foot.

I did a google map from my front door 1,755 feet. Impressive distance in that terrain & for that little rooster to travel in so many hours of daylight.
