    Shambala of the Rockies
The Mythos and Power of Crestone

    by Allison Rae

Word is spreading about a magical, mystical place in the southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
It is hidden, remote, like the lost city of "Shangri-La."

Or, as town mayor Kizzen Laki puts it, visiting Crestone is like an episode of Star Trek where the crew lands on a planet that's supposed to be home to a highly advanced technological society, and all they see are a few sheep herders wandering around. "Then they press a button, and a whole city appears out of nowhere."
After all, Shambala, the legendary spiritual center of the world, only manifests in the physical realm from time to time. Welcome to Crestone, Shambala of the Rockies.
Spiritual seekers in North America eventually hear about Crestone. They make their pilgrimage to this sacred land reminiscent of the Himalayas and home to dozens of spiritual organizations and retreat centers.
After driving through both blocks of Crestone with its single gas pump, general store and post office, many leave, scratching their heads and wondering what the fuss is about.
For some people, it takes two, three or more visits to break through the illusion that there's nothing here.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

Big reward offered for information on missing mom

Friends and family of 30-year-old Kristal Anne Reisinger are offering up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) responsible for her disappearance.

That’s a significant jump in money from the original reward of $1,000 posted a year ago.

The increased reward offering comes on the heels of some fresh leads in the case.

This week, Saguache County Sheriff Dan Warwick told FOX31, “suspects are being named.”

He indicated that was giving his detectives the ability to focus in on a narrow list of potential suspects.

While sheriff’s deputies and a specialty task force from the Colorado Bureau of Investigations have been digging into new clues, Reisinger’s friends have been raising money in hopes of motivating someone to talk.

They believe there are a group of people in the Crestone area who not only can tell authorities where to find Reisinger, but who was involved in her suspected homicide.

“We all know in our hearts that somebody did something bad to her,” Rodney Ervin told FOX31 Problem Solvers this week.

Ervin said, “The suspects are getting away with it so far, but we`re not going to allow that to happen. We`re going to keep going until we get resolution. Whatever that resolution is. Whether we find Kristal. Get the people that did this. They`ll just know we`re not going to give up and we`re not.”

Popular ‘Up and Vanished’ podcast features missing Colorado mom

Over the past year, the FOX31 Problem Solvers have been investigating the mysterious disappearance of 29-year-old Kristal Anne Reisinger.

She moved from Denver to Crestone to learn more about the region’s well-known spiritual centers.

About July 13, 2016, she was last seen attending a local “drum circle ceremony.” Reisinger has not contacted her young daughter, friends,or family since then.

The Saguache County Sheriff's Office believes foul play is involved and detectives continue to work on active leads.

On Monday, the unsolved case became the focus season two of the popular true crime podcast, “Up and Vanished.”

There is a $20,000 reward available to anyone who can give the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office solid information as to the location of Reisinger or her body.

    Crestone journalist questions murder investigations

A former journalist is questioning the investigations by the Saguache Sheriff’s Office into the death of Brandy Atkins, 36, and the disappearance of Kristal Anne Reisinger, 29, both Crestone residents.

Grimes, a Crestone resident and one-time professor of journalism at the University of Massachusetts, claims Atkins and Reisinger had a great deal in common and certain points in their separate cases intersect. Atkins died in 2017, with her death ruled a suicide at that time by the El Paso County coroner. Reisinger disappeared from Crestone in 2016. Both had certain contacts in common. Both were involved with abusive men and both had substance abuse problems.

Atlanta filmmaker Payne Lindsey of Tenderfoot TV recently ran a podcast series on Reisinger’s disappearance, interviewing Saguache Sheriff Dan Warwick during one of the podcasts. Grimes alleges possible “negligence, conflicts of interest and other wrongdoings,” particularly on the part of deputy Wayne Clark, who lives in the Crestone area. She has referred the cases for further investigation to 12th Judicial District Attorney Crista Newmyer-Olsen.

Colorado clairvoyant’s disappearance under national spotlight in new season of popular podcast

An Atlanta-based media firm is spinning an intriguing story in an ongoing podcast about a Crestone medium who vanished two summers ago shortly after attending a full-moon ceremony in mountains sacred to the Navajo Nation in southwest Colorado.

But law enforcement officers don’t believe there is anything mystical about 29-year-old Kristal Anne Reisinger’s disappearance.

Saguache County Sheriff Dan Warwick said Monday he believes Reisinger, who left behind her 4-year-old daughter, Kasha, is the victim of foul play. Reisinger disappeared July 13, 2016, shortly after the ceremony, and hasn’t been seen since, Warwick said.

Filmmaker Payne Lindsey and his staff at Atlanta’s Tenderfoot TV have created a podcast series about the case called “Up and Vanished, Season 2: The Disappearance of Kristal Reisinger.”

“Up and Vanished,” one of the top podcasts in the country, also separates fact from new age spiritualism, homing in on a bevy of suspects including a man with a criminal record for slipping potent drugs to women and taking advantage of them. Tenderfoot podcasts, including a series about an Atlanta serial killer, have amassed more than 235 million downloads.

Season 2 of “Up and Vanished” will transition into a television docu-series and is in development. The 12-part Reisinger podcast is about midway through its season.

During the latest podcast, Lindsey interviews Reisinger’s former landlord, Ara MacDonald, who said on the day after Reisinger attended an American Indian ceremony called the full moon drum dance, she appeared disoriented. Reisinger told MacDonald she was fed a cocktail of drugs and believes someone sexually assaulted her. That was the last anyone ever heard from her.

KDVR captures strange image in hunt for Reisinger

Fox News KDVR from Denver came to Crestone last week to search for the body of missing Crestone woman Kristal Reisinger, seeking out clues in a maze of caves near the tiny mountain town where she was last seen alive. Reisinger, 29, disappeared July 13, 2016.

A disturbing shadow no one could account for appeared mysteriously over the very last cave the news team searched. Its wide, outstretched wings and hollow-eyed head seemed to be sending a chilling message to searchers and onlookers.

Reisinger’s friend, Amy Ervin, described the image as “powerful.” She told reporters her friend Kristal was clairvoyant and an adept Tarot card reader, and she felt she would assist them in finding her remains.

Ervin believes her friend will be found in a cold place near a river, as Reisinger’s medium and Kristal’s five-year-old daughter, Akasha, predict. According to Ervin, “Kasha” has inherited her mother’s psychic sensitivities.

Talk around the community has led some to believe Reisinger’s body was hidden in a mine by an acquaintance. This is the belief held by her friends and family. While they realize nothing more than bones remain of their loved one, they would like to bring her home.

The KDVR news crew used a database from the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety to search out abandoned mines, checking to see if they had been secured as they are required to be by law or whether they were accessible to the public. Some they found unsecured; others could not be entered legally.

The crew checked over 40 locations out of 62 provided by the database, but decided the others were too remote and not likely to have been accessible to someone trying to hide a body. The news team also took a cadaver dog named Chance to search the last spot Reisinger was seen alive — the “drum circle’ outside Crestone. The dog appeared to pick up no scent.

The Denver investigative team used GoPro cameras and other equipment to probe deep into the caves and physically searched inside them where possible, but no clues were found. The case has frustrated friends and family members who feel leads to the location of Kristal’s body have not been fully investigated.

Atlanta filmmaker Payne Lindsey of Tenderfoot TV recently ran a podcast series on Reisinger’s disappearance, interviewing Saguache Sheriff Dan Warwick during one of the podcasts. Some 17 million listeners have downloaded the podcast, KDVR reported in its broadcast Monday.

Warwick said in late September his office has now officially handed the case over to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). “We haven’t been able to work it like we want and if they need anything we will be more than willing [to provide it],” Warwick explained. “We don’t have the manpower to work this one case non-stop.”

Previously CBI was only assisting in the investigation. KDVR said they will turn over all the documentation gathered in their search to the bureau.

Anyone with information regarding the disappearance of Kristal Reisnger is asked to contact Sheriff Dan Warwick at 719-655-2544. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information in the case.
