Baby still missing in Snohomish County; teen mother booked into into juvenile justice center

A 16-year-old girl has been booked into Denney Juvenile Justice Center after she and her baby went missing earlier this month.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday it still needs the public’s help after a 16-year-old girl was located, but her infant daughter remained missing.

Baby Hazel was born between September 10 and 18.

According to the sheriff's office, Lund was located Tuesday afternoon in south Everett. Workers at nearby businesses said they saw Leah Lund several times on Casino Road in the last few days, but they never saw her with a baby.

Detectives are still searching for her baby, but did not have a photo to share.

Maybe she will dry out and tell someone what happened to her baby.

I still have not heard of her talking.... now she is in a juvenile detention center..... what is wrong with all of these girls and women..... if you do not want the child leave it at the hospital, you turn a baby into your local fire dept and police dept...... why do they just leave them to the elements to die or beat them to kill them? Makes me so mad!!!

I think it has to be looked at case-by-case.. Some clearly have severe mental or emotional illness which has gone unrecognised and/or untreated (in which case, I look to their own parents and ask "why"). In cases where it's sheer callousness, I have NO idea why they don't surrender the baby.. Just none.

I see this young woman was a heroin user, so good choices are likely far from her mind on any given day. I wonder who was meant to be watching out for her, considering she's still a minor. Parents? Child welfare? A pregnant 16-yo junkie, and no-one was keeping tabs? Was she using while pregnant? Who was monitoring that? Did nobody suggest to her that maybe carrying a child to term at her age, in her condition, might be a bad idea?

Were this somehow my own child, she'd be down the clinic in five minutes, and then off for a long stint in rehab. No way would I let her be pregnant --and-- a drug addict. Or either, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, I fear there's little hope this baby is still alive. Unless she's been sold.

Snohomish County detectives have not found Leah Lund's baby.

Detectives are urging someone who knows her and can give them any information at all, no matter how small, to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS.

There is a cash reward of up to $1,000 if you can help find Baby Hazel.

If you don't care about the reward, you can also just message me and I will guarantee your anonymity. I do it on cases involving very dangerous people all the time and am happy to help and protect anyone who can shed some light on what happened to Baby Hazel.

Continuing to pray that Leah is getting the help she needs and that her baby is ok.

Comments by this reporter also indicate that Leah is no longer in custody.

I wish there was a way she could be held until she decided to tell someone what she did with her child! My gosh.

    I don't know why there isn't one?????

Surely, a vanished newborn can be assumed to be at critical risk of harm??? Makes no sense, if she can actually do her sentence and be released, and not be charged with *something* over her silence... a bit like Ebron, in the Lonzie case, I suppose, keeping his mouth shut and they have to find other stuff to hold him on.

    And the Sky Metalwala case.

These babies are somewhere. And people who know where they are need to be held accountable!

Leah's been found. It's her baby that was never located (and probably never will be, unfortunately).
Sad to see that she apparently still hasn't gotten her life together. Heroin possession!

Leah was recently featured on an episode of Catfish. At the beginning of the show, the guy she had been talking to for the past 9 years mentioned that she had previously had an abortion. He didn’t even know that she had a baby, yet alone a missing one, until during the show. Although this abortion mentioned could’ve been on another pregnancy altogether, it leads me to wonder if somehow the baby passed away. Either on purpose, from the high levels of drugs, or an accident due to the lack of medical assistance, I sadly think the baby is no longer alive. I’m curious to know if the time she mentioned the abortion to this guy coincided with the time she carried that baby.

I'm curious, too! I think she knows darn good and well what happened to her baby.

    And :welcome: to our group!
