Missing Pendelton baby turns 2 as investigation into disappearance continues

Nearly a year after a baby girl disappeared from her Pendleton home the family is still looking for answers. Instead of celebrating her second birthday Saturday night they pleaded for Leonna Wright’s return home.

We asked the Anderson County Sheriff’s office what was needed to solve the case.

“The challenge for us on Leonna’s case is trying to find her. We have got to come up with something,” said Sheriff John Skipper said. “Every lead that comes up whether there will be one today or one last month, we follow it all the way out to see if we can determine where she is and we can go from there. We have certain pieces of key information in that case that will help solve it.”

Crime stoppers and think2xtwice.org are still offering a $3,200 dollar reward in Leonna’s case.

Investigators have ‘fresh set of eyes’ on case of Baby Leonna, missing since June 2015, sheriff says

The search for a missing child in Anderson on Friday morning brought up memories of the case of Leonna Wright, who has been missing since June 2015.

Investigators said 1-year-old Leonna disappeared June 6, 2015 from the Edgewood Square apartment.

On Friday, WYFF News 4’s Mandy Gaither spoke with Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride about the case.

“We have fresh sets of eyes looking over her case and several others. We’re reviewing them and we will be relentless in trying to pursue the truth of what happened to baby Leonna. We’re concerned about any cold case, but when it comes to children, we’re going to be extra vigilant and protective of our children,” McBride said.

McBride said the new captain of investigators met with investigators assigned to Leonna’s case last week and heard a complete review of the investigation.

He added that investigators had met with Leonna’s family a couple of months ago.

Officials increase reward, guarantee anonymity for tips in case of missing baby

The reward for information in the case of a 1-year-old who was reported missing in 2015 has increased -- and investigators say tipsters are guaranteed anonymity.

Anderson Area Crimestoppers announced that the new reward for information leading to an arrest in the case of Leonna Wright is $10,000. The reward was previously $3,500.

Lt. Tony Tilley credited donations from the community, the efforts of Upstate activist Traci Fant and Sheriff Chad McBride, and Leona's family for the increase in the reward.

Tilley said Leonna's family is pleading for any leads, no matter how insignificant the information might seem.

Tilley said even paying of the reward will be anonymous, and the person who writes the check won't even know who the reward is going to.

Good idea to put it in some kind of "reward escrow" account.

One-year-old Leonna Wright was last seen at Edgewood Square apartments in Pendleton, South Carolina.

Activist Traci Fant, with the group Freedom Fighters Upstate SC, has been with Leonna's family since she went missing.

"It's sad to say that we're losing hope at the fact that she'll ever be returned to us and returned to the family," said Fant.

Now, she wants justice for Leonna.

"I just want the community to understand that it's not the time for pointing fingers -- it's time for us to say, 'These people are responsible, and they need to be held accountable,'" she said.

Leonna's mother, Kiara Sullivan, had gone to a family celebration that night, leaving Leonna with her then-boyfriend Travis Jones.

Jones is currently in jail on unrelated charges. In August, the Anderson County sheriff named Jones as a person of interest in Leonna's disappearance.

Sullivan has cut ties with Jones and has since married Leonna's father, Richard Wright.

Deputies are still searching for answers, calling on the community to come forward to help them find out what happened to little Leonna.

In a written statement to WYFF News 4, Anderson County Sheriff's office writes:

This case is very important to us. It’s still ongoing and we are even pursuing fresh information. Hopefully these leads will yield some more positive results. We have made progress in the case and look forward to pursuing justice for Leonna.

A $10,000 reward is available for anyone who gives information that leads to an arrest.

If you have information about Leonna, you are asked to call the Anderson County Sheriff's Office or the Anderson Area CrimeStoppers at 888-Crime-SC.

I think most likely the Boyfriend killed her and the Mother knows something.

I think mom might be suspicious about ex-boyfriend, which is why she broke up with him.

I think the Mother found out something and was afraid. Or like you say, At least suspicious.
I don't see any other suspects here besides him.
