Man photographed on trail now officially a suspect in murders of Delphi teens

Indiana State Police say a man photographed on the trail where two murdered Delphi teens were last seen is now considered “the main suspect” in their killings.

The man previously had been considered a person authorities wanted to speak to in the investigation of the killings of 14-year-old Liberty German and 13-year-old Abigail Williams.

Delphi resident Mary Harrington says she saw a flurry of activity, with local, state and federal officers and agents rushing in and out of the municipal building Sunday.

“I was hoping that meant they had detained someone,” said Harrington. “It’s a worry for this community. It’s a worry for everybody.”

Just hours later, state police said that preliminary evidence led authorities to the conclusion that he’s a suspect.

“During the course of the investigation, preliminary evidence has led investigators to believe the person, in the distributed photo, is suspected of having participated in the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German,” said Indiana State Police in a press release.

Anyone with more information regarding this man or the deaths of the girls is asked to call the Delphi Murder Tip Line at 844-459-5786. Information can be reported anonymously.

which likely means it is happening, if the newspaper has to specifically tell people not to threaten others.

I think by "suspect identified" they mean that they have "identified" or "discovered" a suspect. Everything is still asking for info on his identity.

Photo of mysterious suspect prompts calls 'from everywhere' in Indiana teens' murder probe

A tip line set up by investigators after the murder of two Indiana teens who disappeared while hiking is filling up with calls from across the country after a man photographed on a nature trail was named a primary suspect in the killings, police said.

"Everyone is calling us from everywhere," a spokesman for the Delphi Police Department in Indiana told ABC News.

Indiana State Police named a man in a photograph as the primary suspect in the double homicide investigation yesterday afternoon, but nothing is known about him at this time outside of a single image.

Prosector Says Not to ‘Harass, Bother or Accuse’ Anyone as Search for Killer of Teen Girls Continues

Public fear and outrage might be about to hit a boiling point in Delphi, Indiana as police continue to hunt for the killer of two teen girls who were found dead last week on a walking trail near an abandoned railway bridge. Things are getting so tense that the local prosecutor thought it was necessary to take to Facebook on Sunday and plead with residents to not “harass, bother or accuse”anyone of involvement in the murder.

“Please do not harass, bother, or accuse anyone. There are no charges pending against anyone as a result of the pending investigation,” prosecutor Robert T. Ives wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday. “No one at the home searched is suspected of committing any crime. Please, please leave these people alone and let the police work.”

On Monday, Ives posted another Facebook message that confirmed Indiana State Police have only one designated “suspect” thus far.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the man in the photo.

Teens killed: Police look beyond Delphi for suspect

Police are not limiting the search for a killer to just Carroll County.

"We're just expanded our search to anybody who saw anything," Indiana State Police Kim Riley said, explaining that at the time it might not have seemed suspicious at the time.

A hitchhiker along the Hoosier Heartland Highway, a person walking along a county road or highway, Riley said as he explained what they were looking for as they look to nearby communities for tips.

"We want to look at any aspect of what somebody might have seen," Riley said, adding that if someone saw a person throwing away a backpack, they'd be interested in tracking that down, too.

Police believe the man in the photo killed 14-year-old Liberty German and 13-year-old Abigail Williams on Feb. 13 near the Monon High Bridge in Delphi.

That would include something out of the ordinary in nearby communities such as Logansport or Kokomo, he said.

Hundreds line funeral route of two girls murdered along railtracks in Indiana as prosecutor tells public to stop playing amateur detective

Hundreds gathered to pay their last respects to two teenage girls found dead near a hiking trail in Indiana, as a prosecutor warned the public to stay away from the investigation.

Liberty 'Libby' German, 14, and Abby Williams, 13, were buried by friends and family in separate private funerals on Sunday, as the amassed residents of the town of Delphi lined the streets to say goodbye as Libby's hearse drove past.

That followed a day of mourning by the community Saturday, including a visitation attended by thousands at Delphi Community Schools and a mass releasing of lanterns to pay respect to the slain girls.

Libby's ceremony was held at Delphi United Methodist Church, WFLI said. She was then buried in IOOF Memorial Gardens in Pittsburg, Indiana, around three miles away.

Hundreds lined the roads from the church to the burial site as her hearse passed slowly to her final resting place.

Libby's obituary painted an image of an active, fun-loving sports star who played volleyball, softball, soccer and swimming, but also showed her creative side with painting and crafts.

Abigail's funeral was a private family service. A saxophone player and fellow volleyball fan, she also enjoyed reading and family camping trips, her obituary said.

Both girls were found dead on Tuesday, a quarter-mile from an abandoned railroad bridge on the Monon High Bridge Trail, where Abigail was last seen in Libby's Snapchat images.

As the community struggled to come to terms with the girls' passing, the county prosecutor came forward to warn locals to stay out of the investigation.
