Five-year-old Lucas Hernandez hasn't been seen for more than two weeks. Police say they've followed up on every lead they've received, but they've found no signs of Lucas.

Wednesday, Eyewitness News looked into how this case compares to another missing child from nearly three decades ago.

Nine-year-old Nancy Shoemaker disappeared on July 30, 1990. Her body was found seven months after her disappearance. As the search for Lucas continues, people in the Wichita community and beyond hope the boy's story does not turn out the same as Nancy's.

A connection between the two children comes in the form of a willow tree. One photo of Lucas shows the boy with his backpack, ready for school. Directly behind him is the small tree.

That small willow tree was planted in memory of Nancy Shoemaker. Like Lucas, Nancy was a student at Beech Elementary School.

"To them, it's another tree and that's fine. But you know for some of the older people, they know the story behind it," says Nancy's father, Bo Shoemaker.

During the months'-long search for Nancy, Bo says he never lost hope she'd come home safe.

"And I'm sure those parents and family still have hope of Lucas returning home safely. And there's a chance for that," he says.

In the continued search for Lucas, police ask anyone with information to call the tip line at 316-383-4641.

'We are standing for Lucas': Community members gather for missing child

A vigil was held tonight for a 5-year-old boy who disappeared nearly three weeks ago.

Lucas Hernandez was reported missing by his stepmother on February 17.

Thursday, dozens gathered near his home where he was last seen.

They say they want to give him a voice and make sure he's not forgotten.

"We are standing for Lucas. There may be other meetings where we're addressing something else, but at this point, we just want to stand for Lucas, we want him to know that he finally has a voice, that he's not invisible anymore," said Shelia Medlan, vigil organizer.

Missing boy's dad would welcome stepmom home if she can win release from jail

Jonathan Hernandez, father of a missing Wichita boy, says he would welcome his wife home if she can win release from jail. Glass is asking a judge to change her bond so she can be released from jail and have contact with her family and other children.

A court hearing on Glass’s requests is set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

    What. The. Hell.

Your little boy was beaten and disposed of. (Probably. Sorry for being so blatant.) And you want her back?

From previous articles I got a different impression. Glad he cleared that up. He's either not as innocent as previously believed, or completely delusional.

I hope this judge doesn't fall for that. DO NOT reduce her bond and DO NOT let her ANYWHERE NEAR those other children.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) We now know more about the child endangerment charge Emily Glass, the stepmother of Lucas Hernandez, is being held on.

Glass reported the five-year-old missing on Feb. 17.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Glass told police the day before she made the report she smoked marijuana.

Glass said she was cleaning the family's home, located near Lincoln and Edgemoor, when she went into the garage around 3:30 p.m. and "smoked a few bowls" of marijuana.

Glass told police she got hungry. So, she and her one-year-old daughter, only identified as MH, drove to Olive Garden for dinner.

Glass said she only stayed at Olive Garden for about an hour before driving back home with MH.

The court document says Glass consented to a search of her phone where police found texts on Facebook Messenger between her and JH (Glass' husband, Jonathan Hernandez).

Police say the messages stated Glass was going to smoke a couple of bowls of marijuana and go to Olive Garden using a gift card JH sent her.

The document goes on to say Glass made two phone calls on Feb. 16 at 4:53 p.m. and 5:43 p.m. The phone calls were made from the area of Central and Rock, near where an Olive Garden is located.

A portion of the document has been redacted.

Glass is currently being held in the Sedgwick County jail on a single count of child endangerment. She will appear in court in court Wednesday afternoon to request her $50,000 bond be reduced.

Was he at day care? Oh my gosh, please tell me Lucas' dad isn't in on this....

OH WAIT! He was probably in school. There's a pic upthread of him at school.

Late for him to be at school.
