I appreciate the ongoing coverage of Macin, but do you think they could change up their headlines a bit?

14 MONTHS ON: Mother of missing teen Macin Smith: ‘The nightmare is real’

“Every day I wake up I am reminded that the nightmare is real. My son is gone. He may be gone for the remainder of my life.”

The 18-year-old has been missing 14 long months, and Bratt-Smith has talked to Gephardt Daily about almost every aspect of her son’s disappearance, including how intensely challenging the holiday season is. But this November and December may be even harder, as the Smith family faces the unthinkable: the second Thanksgiving and second Christmas without their youngest son.

ST. GEORGE, Utah, Dec. 14, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A seasonal push for more followers on the Facebook page set up to help find missing St. George teen Macin Smith has already resulted in new leads.

Keith Bratt, the brother of Macin’s mom, Tracey Bratt-Smith, announced on Dec. 7 that his aim before Christmas was to reach 20,000 followers on the Help Find Macin Smith Facebook page. That number has been hovering right around 15,000 for most of this year.

18 MONTHS ON: Mom of missing teen Macin Smith speaks of the battle to keep hope alive

Yesterday was the day they thought would never come.

It was the 18 month anniversary of St. George teenager Macin Smith’s disappearance.

The past year-and-a-half has been the longest of his mother Tracey Bratt-Smith’s life, as well as her family’s, she said.

Macin walked away from home at the age of 17 in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015. April 7 will mark the 19th anniversary of Macin’s birth.

Bratt-Smith added there will also be new billboards coming out, and advertising on some public transits.

“Leads still come in, but it’s declined from the last month or so,” she added. “Hope is still there until we know otherwise.”

There have been multiple possible sightings of Macin, and interest in the case ramped up early this year after possible sightings of Macin in the northern California city of Modesto. A handful of potential sightings were also reported just before that in the Sacramento area. Police are investigating in both areas. Modesto and Sacramento are 75 miles apart.

Utah teen Macin Smith should be gearing up to celebrate his upcoming 19th birthday with his family on April 7. But Macin walked away from his St. George home in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 1, 2015 — and vanished without a trace.

According to his mother Tracey Bratt-Smith, she and Macin’s father Darrin believed that the teen was on his way to Desert High School. The family had moved to Utah from Canada five months earlier.

On a new episode of Investigation Discovery’s Disappeared, Bratt-Smith revealed that when Darrin told her that Macin was missing, she first thought he may have just been “blowing off steam” due to the fact that his phone and computer had been confiscated the night before. But chillingly, later on, his parents discovered a note folded inside his wallet. They have not released the contents, but have revealed that the note contained information that led his family to believe that Macin may have planned to harm himself. The family says that Macin had a history of depression.

Speaking exclusively to Gephardt Daily, Bratt-Smith talked about the family’s attempts to keep Macin’s story in the public eye. “This has been the longest 18 months of our lives, yet we have no other choice but to move forward and think of new and creative ways to get Macin’s story out to the public,” Tracy Bratt-Smith told the publication.

She said that family and friends have used several “creative ideas” including stamping money, bumper stickers, and T-shirts. Bratt-Smith and other family members have posted Facebook updates almost every day to the Help Find Macin Smith page, which has over 27,000 members, using hashtag #MacinsArmy.

Macin is six foot four, weighed almost 200 pounds at the time of his disappearance, and has blonde hair and blue eyes. There is a $10,000 reward being offered for information leading to Macin’s location.

There have been multiple possible sightings of Macin in St. George and in locations including the northern California city of Modesto and the Sacramento area. Police are investigating these areas.

Authorities have asked anyone with information about Macin is asked to call the St. George Police Department at (435) 627-4300, or David Cummings at Red Rock Search and Rescue at (702) 787-4068.

Because of the note found in his wallet, I'm afraid he may have hurt himself. Or may have taken a walk out in the wilderness and gotten lost and they couldn't find him.

I finally watched as well. And I feel the same way you do. :( I do feel that Macin intentionally left and likely harmed himself. This seems to be a trend with teen boys lately. Or maybe it's just teens in general. But I feel like many of our "missing" teens are suicides that wanted to do it away from home. :(

Members of Macin Smith group 'worried' over unidentified human remains

The unidentified human remains recovered last week in a desert just south of where a 17-year-old St. George boy went missing nearly two years ago are cause for concern for some of his supporters.

Some members of an online group supporting Macin Smith's location efforts were alarmed upon hearing deputies couldn't identify the few human remains they found on Thursday, much less give an age range or other demographic to rule Macin out.

"I think a lot of people are particularly worried about this one, and with good reason," said TaeLynn Johnson, an administrator of the webpage. "The proximity to St. George does make your heart stop a little."

Hmmm. I'd think his clothing would still be identifiable at this point, and in that climate.

Mom of missing St. George teen: Remains found do not match Macin’s profile

The human remains found last month 40 miles south of St. George do not match the profile of missing teen Macin Smith, his mother says.

“The remains are dated and do not match Macin’s profile,” Tracey Bratt-Smith told Gephardt Daily exclusively on Friday.

Bratt-Smith said the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet positively identified the bones, as they are not thought to come from a recent death, but she has been told there is less than a 10 percent chance the remains are those of her son.

Mom of missing St. George teen Macin Smith reflects on grief as 2-year anniversary approaches

As the search for one local missing man, Paul Swenson, comes to a tragic end, the search for another, Macin Smith, shows no sign of conclusion.

The Smith family, in fact, is preparing for the day they thought would never come: the two-year anniversary of Macin’s Sept. 1 disappearance.
