Hembree was last seen in Smyer, Texas at 6:30 p.m. on February 26, 2013. She left in her red two-door 1999 Saturn with the New Mexico license plate number KJB142 to drive to a friend's house in Lubbock, Texas, but never arrived. The last time her cellular phone was used was a few hours after she was last seen. She has never been heard from again.

Three days later, authorities found Michael Todd Ramsey in possession of her car. Hembree had known Ramsey for a couple of months prior to her disappearance and he was the last person known to have been with her. A photo of him is posted with this case summary.

Ramsey is a person of interest in Hembree's disappearance. He has a prior criminal record, but not for violent offenses, and he was incarcerated on unrelated charges after she went missing.

Woman says bones found in her yard are part of 2013 missing person investigation

Linda, who asked that we not use her last name, said when Lubbock Police showed up at her house on Tuesday, they wanted permission to search her backyard because of a 2013 missing person case.

Two such cases made the news in Lubbock. One was Zoe Campos, and the other was Maegan Hembree.

    Bones Not Identified Yet

Police on Friday said, “An investigation led officers to that specific area where an LPD investigator located the bone.”

Before that, on Friday morning, police said, “Wednesday evening, a bone was located in a back yard. Investigators are working to determine the origin of the bone. At this time, it has not been confirmed as human.”

The area searched was in the 1900 block of 70th Street.

Michael Todd Ramsey Receives 80 Year Sentence From Jury

An interesting twist developed in the case after it was discovered that Michael Todd Ramsey was also the lead suspect in a missing persons case in Lubbock. At the time of Ramsey’s arrest in Van Zandt County, Maegan Hembree had been missing since February 26, 2013 and Ramsey was the last person seen with her. He had been seen driving her car a few days after her disappearance and in possession of her cell phone SIM card more than a year after she went missing. Even after Lubbock Co. investigators questioned Ramsey about his connection to Maegan and discovering a small drop of blood in her car, there was not enough evidence to formally charge him with her disappearance. To this day, Maegan has not been found nor has a crime scene been discovered relating to her death or disappearance.
