No news at all for several days since the arrest. I don't know if that's typical of European cases or not. But I do hope they are still searching for Maelys!

Search for French girl missing from wedding to wind down

Authorities searching for a nine-year-old girl who went missing from a wedding in the French Alps plan to scale back their efforts, having found no sign of her since her disappearance last month, a source close to the inquiry said Tuesday.

Searches of the nearby Chailles gorges in Savoy were ended on Tuesday, the source told AFP, while a search of a nearby lake will continue Wednesday.

"We're exhausting the possible areas where we could have results," the source said, saying searches would now be carried out based on any progress in the investigation.

Where IS Maelys? Cops still baffled over disappearance of girl, eight, from French wedding a month ago

The mum of an eight-year-old girl who vanished without a trace at a wedding party more than a month ago has begged for answers.

Jennifer de Araujo described the wait for news about her beloved daughter Maelys as "unbearable".

The youngster vanished at a wedding party on August 27 and there have been no sightings of her since - despite police interviewing 250 guests at the bash.

A 34-year-old suspect was arrested after DNA belonging to the child was found in his car, but she still hasn't been located.

The suspect, named in French media as former military dog trainer Nordahl Lelandais, admitted the girl was in his car on the day of her disappearance but claims she later returned to the wedding party.

Maelys's mum urged Lelandais to "reveal everything that happened on that night and cooperate with the law".

Maëlys de Araujo: Mothers in plea to French kidnap suspect

The mother of a man suspected of kidnapping a nine-year-old French girl says she will urge him to reveal whatever he knows about what happened.

Christiane Lelandais was speaking after the parents of Maëlys de Araujo had also urged the suspect, Nordahl Lelandais, to "reveal what he knows".

Nordahl Lelandais is in solitary confinement.

Nordahl Lelandais, 34, is an ex-soldier who lives with his parents a few kilometres from Pont-de-Beauvoisin.

"Once I can go and visit my son in prison, I'll speak to him and say: 'If you saw something you must talk about it'," Christiane Lelandais was quoted as saying.

Christiane Lelandais, quoted by the French daily Le Parisien, voiced sympathy for Maëlys' parents. "I feel their distress. I too would like to know what happened to Maëlys."

Le Parisien also reported that two police sniffer dogs fell seriously ill after examining the Audi car belonging to Nordahl Lelandais. He had reportedly used a strong detergent to clean it the day after Maëlys disappeared.

Le Parisien says a service station camera filmed him cleaning the car for more than two hours. He maintains that he cleaned the car thoroughly because he wanted to sell it.

Maëlys de Araujo case: hundreds join march in France for missing girl

Hundreds of people have joined a silent march for a nine-year-old girl whose disappearance from a wedding reception four months ago could be linked to the mystery killing of a British couple in the French Alps.

There has been no trace of Maëlys de Araujo since August despite widespread searches and hundreds of police interviews.

At least 500 people, many in tears, turned out in the rain and wind to march in the Isère commune, where the girl went missing. The event was called to express solidarity with her parents. One banner read “truth for Maëlys”.

Nordahl Lelandais, 34, also a guest at the wedding, has been put under official investigation for kidnapping and murder in connection with the girl’s disappearance near Chambéry in the French Alps, but denies any involvement.

Lelandais, a former military dog trainer, has also been charged with the murder of Arthur Noyer, a soldier who vanished near Chambéry in April.

Detectives are re-examining other unsolved disappearances and murders in the area, including the shooting of three members of the British-Iraqi al-Hilli family at a Chevaline mountain beauty spot near Annecy five years ago.
