Glad he is in custody!!!!! Tampering with evidence will hold him for while - then they will throw the book at him.

Perhaps there will be more arrests when the whole truth comes out.

Assuming HPD would have been quick to check the car, would fresh bleach fumes confuse cadaver dogs?

A law enforcement source also tells Eyewitness News that Maleah was last seen alive on surveillance video in her family's apartment complex on April 30, the same day her mother left town for a funeral. Cameras captured Vence bringing her back into their family apartment that morning.

Following that morning, investigators say he was never seen with her.

On May 3, cameras captured Vence leaving the apartment with his 1-year-old son, a laundry basket, and a black trash bag inside. Police stated there is blood evidence from the apartment linked to Maleah.

On Saturday, Houston police added the laundry basket was found along with a gas can in the trunk of the vehicle that Vence reported stolen. The vehicle was recovered in the Missouri City area on Thursday.

Police also revealed the same vehicle was seen on surveillance video on May 5 at Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, where someone dropped off Vence. It was there that Vence first made the claim that he was attacked and that Maleah may have been kidnapped.

So ~ QX, attention w, you know what I mean), broke the news that blood evidence had been found inside the apartment. It would be good to know where in the chain-of-events Mom turned on Vence. Seems to me she was holding back a lot of damning evidence. Why? & again, why would a mother leave a fragile child & baby with an angry, abusive man?

    1 + 1 is not adding up to a simple 2.

So he didn’t walk there after all. WHO dropped him off and/or took the vehicle away from the hospital and dumped it?? Pisses me off so much more when people HELP these scumbags get away with hurting children.

Judge sets $1- million bond (with video)

Vence appeared in court later that evening, standing before Judge Courtney St. Julian in a black sweatshirt while the information contained in that arrest warrant was read to him.

In the warrant, which KHOU 11 has not yet obtained, Houston police investigators outlined how Vence was seen on a neighbor's security camera the day before Maleah was reported missing carrying a blue laundry basket and a large trash bag out of their apartment. They said he was also seen carrying cleaning supplies, including bleach.

The day after she was reported missing, detectives went into the apartment and saw drops of blood on the carpet near the bathroom, detectives said in the warrant.

When the car Vence was reportedly driving at the time he claimed he was attacked was found on Friday, a laundry basket was found inside. Police K-9 dogs at the scene reacted to the trunk of the car, indicating that the dogs were responding to the scent of human decomposition.

A court-appointed attorney requested Vence's bond be set at $5,000, however the judge said that due to the nature of the case and a "significant concern that Mr. Vence will not appear in court," she set his bond at $1 million.

Vence's case was assigned to Judge DaSean Jones, 180th District Court.

    Blood evidence found at apartment:

HPD detectives say in addition to blood evidence linked to Maleah being found at the apartment, Vence was also seen carrying a laundry basket from the apartment.

Vence's silver Nissan Altima was recovered in Missouri City on Thursday.

The laundry basket was found in the trunk of the Nissan along with a gas can, according to HPD.

A gas can was found in the trunk of Derion Vence's Nissan Altima, which police say he lied about being stolen.

    KHOU 11 News
Although Vence reported his Altima was taken in an abduction, surveillance video showed someone in that Nissan Altima dropped Vence off at the Methodist Sugar Land Hospital on May 5, according to police.

His scratches look like surface razor blade cuts to me .... self-inflicted most likely. Skitt

It seems pretty obvious that he is responsible for Maleah being missing. I hope law enforcement has a good idea of who dropped him off.

“Puzzling” indeed. The puzzle pieces are falling into place as we speak. And I think most of us could tell what the full picture was, with just the first couple of pieces.

Investigators found drops of what may be Maleah Davis' blood in her family's Houston apartment and evidence that someone tried to clean it up, according to court documents.

The blood was found in the bathroom and a hallway leading to it at the apartment in the 9800 block of South Kirkwood Drive where Maleah lived with her mother, Brittany Bowens, and her fiance, Derion Vence, who was charged Saturday with tampering with evidence, in this case a human corpse, records show.

A chemical spray revealed more traces of blood that had been cleaned up at some point in the apartment, police said.

Vence, 26, told investigators that "there should be no blood in the home and that no one was recently bleeding," authorities said in the sworn statement.

Police used DNA samples from Maleah's toothbrush to match the blood to a "maternal offspring of Brittany Bowens."
