Eastport property searched for clues of missing woman
    by Lora Whelan

A 14-acre Eastport property was searched on May 22 by the Maine State Police (MSP) and the Eastport Police Department for clues into the whereabouts of a woman who has been missing for almost a decade. Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North Commanding Officer Lt. Christopher Coleman and Sgt. Darrin Crane, two State Police canine units and seven members of the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team began surveying the former property of Marilyn Lehan on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 21, on Clark Street in Eastport, where she lived with her husband Brian King from 2002 to 2004.
On Thursday morning, May 22, and into the day, the canine teams continued searching the 14 acres of brush behind the house. MSP Evidence Response Team Detective Micah Perkins explains that the canine units are the focus of the day's surveying. The team members have specialized skills and were pulled from all over the state to work on the investigation. "The team works in reaction to any information gathered from their [the canine unit] search." The property is now owned by another family.
After an eight-hour search, no sign of Lehan was discovered. Additional searches at other locations are likely as new information comes in.
Lehan and her husband moved to Eastport in 2002 when she purchased the house. The property was foreclosed on after her disappearance, and her husband has since relocated to the Berkeley, Calif., area. Lt. Coleman explains that Lehan "hails from the West Coast" and has three brothers who were searching for her for some time without success. Eastport Police Chief Rodney Merritt adds that the Eastport Police Department was contacted by one of the brothers in the summer of 2013 and officially reported her missing. According to family members it was not uncommon for Lehan to have long periods of time elapse between family contacts. Lehan and King had lived in Montana and California, among other states, before settling in Maine. Merritt says that the police department investigated through the summer and requested the assistance from Maine State Police in the fall of 2013.
Lt. Coleman explains that the property search "is the logical place to start. It's her last known residence, and we need to rule it out as a possible location. It's one of several steps to take. It's still a very open active missing person investigation." He adds, "We really need the public's help. We don't have a lot of information about how she spent her days." The MSP Major Crimes Unit North is working cooperatively with the Eastport Police Department. If at some point foul play enters the investigation then the Major Crimes Unit would take the lead, Coleman says.
Although residing in Eastport for only two years, Lehan was active in and attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was born February 24, 1955, and is 59 years old. She is 5'9" tall with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts or anyone who may have had contact with her prior to her disappearance is asked to contact Detective Micah Perkins of the State Police in Bangor at 1‑800‑432‑7381 or the Eastport Police Department.

Authorities Investigating Case of Missing Person Last Heard From 10 Years Ago

Authorities are searching the property behind an Eastport, Maine house Thursday as they investigate a case of a missing person who was last heard from by family a decade ago.

According to state police, state and Eastport Police will search the property behind a house on Clark Street where Marilyn Lehan lived 10 years ago with her husband Brian from 2002 to 2004.

Family members told Maine State Police she may have moved away in 2004 and had not heard from her since. State police say the house is now owned by another family.

State police say dog teams surveyed the property on Wednesday.

The home on Clark Street was foreclosed on after Lehan's disappearance and her husband has since relocated to California, state police say, and that her family's repeated tries to find her have been unsuccessful.

Family members reportedly told state police it was not uncommon for there to be long periods of time without word from her, authorities say.

Marilyn Lehan was officially reported missing to Eastport Police last summer, who investigated through the summer and asked for state police's help in the fall, according to state police.

Police say Lehan is 59 years old, 5'9" with brown hair and brown eyes, and anyone with information is asked to contact Maine State Police at 1-800-432-7381, or Eastport Police.

Police to search Eastport property for woman missing since 2004

    By Contributed • May 21, 2014

EASTPORT, Maine — Police will search the area behind a local house Thursday for clues to the whereabouts of a woman who has been missing for a decade, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Marilyn Lehan, 59, is 5 feet 9 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes, according to department spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Members of Lehan’s family say she may have moved away in 2004, but they have not heard from her since. The family said repeated attempts to find her have been unsuccessful, but it was not uncommon for Lehan to let long periods of time elapse between family contacts.

In the summer of 2013, Lehan’s family officially reported her missing to Eastport police, who investigated through the summer before requesting Maine State Police assistance last fall, McCausland stated in the news release.

On Wednesday, state police dog teams surveyed the Clark Street property where Lehan lived with her husband, Brian, from 2002 to 2004. The house is owned by another family.

State and local police plan to search the 14 acres behind the house Thursday morning, McCausland stated.

Lehan and her husband reportedly moved to Eastport in 2002 after purchasing the house. That home was foreclosed on after Lehan’s disappearance, and her husband since has moved to California.

Lehan was an active member of the local Catholic church while she lived in Eastport.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts or anyone who may have had contact with her before her disappearance is asked to call Detective Micah Perkins at 800-432-7381 or the Eastport Police Department.

EASTPORT Maine State Police said a search of a 14-acre piece of property in Eastport today yielded no signs of a woman, missing for a decade, who once lived there.

Police were looking into the disappearance of Marilyn Lehan, who lived on Clark Street in Eastport, where she lived with her husband Brian from 2002 to 2004. Family members told police that she may have moved away in 2004, and they have not heard from her since.

Two body dogs searched the property off Clark Street for about eight hours today and found no sign of 59 year old Marilyn Lehan. Detectives say they have no plans to return to the property, but additional searches at other locations are likely as new information comes in.

Lehan is 59, and stands five-foot nine-inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. She and her husband moved to Eastport in 2002 after purchasing the house. The home was was foreclosed on after her disappearance, and her husband has since relocated to California. Repeated attempts to locate her by the family have been unsuccessful. They have told police it was not uncommon for Lehan to have long periods of time elapse between family contacts.

In the summer of 2013, her family officially reported her missing to Eastport Police, who investigated through the summer and requested the assistance from State Police last fall.

Although residing in Eastport for only two years, she was active in and attended the local Catholic church. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts or anyone who may have had contact with her prior to her disappearance is asked to contact Detective Micah Perkins at State Police in Bangor at 1-800-432-7381 or Eastport Police.

So, hubby says she went to any ole Catholic retreat in Montana? Doesn't make sense. If it doesn't make sense, my hinky sensor goes off.
