Natasha was last seen sleeping on the couch in the living room of her family's home in Jackson, Michigan on May 8, 1985. In the early morning hours, her mother was awakened by the sound of a car door slamming outside. She fell back asleep. When she woke up again at 6:00 am, Natasha was gone and one of the doors to the house was wide open. It is believed that Natasha either wandered away or was abducted between 1:30 and 6:00 am.

The live-in boyfriend of Natasha's mother was found shot to death two days later. His death was ruled a suicide, but there is suspicion that he may have been murdered. Authorities cannot say whether or not his death is connected to Natasha's disappearance.

Natasha's mother was awakened in the night by the sound of a car door slamming outside of the family's home in Jackson, but then she fell back asleep. When she went to check on Natasha in the morning, she was nowhere to be found, and the front door to the home was wide open. It is believed Natasha disappeared between 1:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Michigan cold cases: 16 kids we're still searching for

The recent discovery of bones and teeth from three children in Montana raised suspicions that they could be the remains of three brothers who disappeared from southern Michigan in 2010.

There are at least 16 other children under the age of 10 who have gone missing in Michigan dating to 1958. Here are those Michigan cases, as listed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children:

Natasha Shanes, 6, missing since May 8, 1985 from Jackson. Age now: 38. She was last seen at home. She has pierced ears, a scar on her cheek and a strawberry birthmark on her neck. Contact: Jackson Police Department, 517-788-4100.

Is there any way to find out more information on Robert F Forbes? Generally, one does not take multiple shots at themselves when committing suicide. It's not impossible, but people don't usually shoot to maim themselves first, and if they do, they rarely shoot again because the pain is unbearable - which makes me think he was murdered.
I realise the police do not think the circumstances of Roberts death are linked to the abduction of Natasha, but what if....' Robert owed money (or drugs) and Natasha was abducted to procure the items from Robert.

    1. Robert discovered she was already murdered when he went to make payment and was murdered himself for silence
    2. Robert went to meet the abductors and explained he couldn't make payment, and so he was murdered, with Natasha being murdered at a later time.

I'm also wary of Natasha falling asleep on the lounge fully clothed.

    1. Mother was too out of it to care about putting her daughter to bed properly. (I have to assume the mother was partaking in drugs as well because she entered into a relationship with a man that was trafficking heroin)
    2. Mother knew daughter was going to be abducted and left her fully clothed and asleep in the loungeroom for easy access. Conspiracy to extort monies from media through sensationalism?

Is it too unrealistic to think that the parents engaged in child trafficking for the sake of drugs and Robert was killed 2 days later when they decided they wanted the child back?

Mother continues search for missing daughter after over 30 years

Natasha Marie Shanes disappeared from Jackson, Michigan May 7, 1985 when she was only six years old. Her mother continues to hold out hope that she will return after almost 39 years have gone by with no signs of her anywhere.

According to Natasha's mother, Susan Shanes, someone took her daughter from their home while she was asleep. Police arrived on scene after receiving the call of a missing child, but could not find any signs of a forced entry. It's been ruled as a non-family abduction.

Two days after Natasha went missing, her mother's boyfriend, Robert F. Forbes was found shot near his mother's home. His death was ruled a suicide, but Susan is also suspicious about his death and believe he was murdered. Police tried to connect the two cases, but haven't been able to find any relation.

Many believe that Natasha has passed on but Susan still holds out hope today that Natasha will be found safe or at least her body can be returned home so she can be given a proper resting place near her family and loved ones.
