    'Please ... find my boy'

The mother of a five-year-old boy, who went missing with his six-year-old neighbour, has made a desperate appeal on social media in a bid to have them returned home safely.

The two boys, who mysteriously disappeared, were last seen at the intersection of Diamantina and Bullock Streets in the Wulguru suburb of Townsville in north Queensland at about 4pm on Saturday.

Police have been scouring the streets after their parents reported them missing and hold concerns for the boys' welfare due to their age.

Oh gods.. shades of William Tyrell? I hope not.....

I'm not liking this 'mysteriously' description, nor that the boys just abandoned their bike & scooter.

Not much info out there yet.

Police and SES have spent Saturday night searching for two boys, aged 5 and 6, who went missing in Townsville. Authorities are seeking urgent public assistance to locate them.

The two boys were last seen at the intersection of Diamantina and Bullock Streets in the Townsville suburb of Wulguru Saturday afternoon around 4pm but haven't been seen since.

The boys' scooter and tricycle were discovered around 8.30pm on a dirt track leading into bushland near the Linden Crescent and Bellvue Court intersection.

SES volunteers, a rescue helicopter and police will continue the search Sunday morning.

Inspector Glenn Doyle, Townsville District Southern Patrol Group, has appealed to local residents to assist in the search by checking their yards for places the boys may have sought shelter.

    Police update:

Inspector Glenn Doyle, Townsville District Southern Patrol Group, has asked for local residents to search their yards for any areas where the boys may have sought shelter overnight.

“We ask for you to check under your house and in any sheds, vehicles, boats or caravans and even the cubby house, if you have one. It was a cold and wet night and they would have tried to find somewhere warm,” Inspector Doyle said.

Police continue to appeal for information from the public that might help direct search efforts.

“We are asking for anyone who may have seen the two boys, either together or perhaps separately, any time yesterday afternoon or later to contact us. You may have the key piece of information that points us in the right direction to find them,” Inspector Doyle said.

The bush looks pretty sparse though... What's a worry to me is that if that the kids took off for an adventure, why'd they abandon their bikes?

They were just up the street from the police station.

I feel a bit more hopeful, re the bolded part about the track. Here's hoping they just got a bit lost and will turn up safe and sound, just a bit cold and hungry.

The type of bushland they might have wandered into is very rocky and steep, sparse tree cover but lots of rocks. I can understand why they might leave their bikes behind, to explore in that sort of terrain. I can't see clearly on google, but perhaps being very rocky and steep there's places where the kids could have fallen down and not been able to climb out. I kind of doubt both would have fallen like that, though, just in rocks. Maybe a mudslide, as it had been raining.

What I'm worried about mostly is two things: 1/ abduction and 2/ something like old mines in the area, which are really dangerous. I could see two kids falling down an old shaft, made unstable by the rain or something.

A green tricycle and a silver scooter that the boys were using were later located near the intersection of Linden Crescent and Bellevue Court.

-- I was googlingmapping around there earlier, as it's the most obvious track in the area where they were last seen. Turns out the bikes were exactly in line with that track, which seems to lead to some large water tower or silo, big round structure. The map below shows last seen location, and location of bikes right before the track. It's about a 3 min walk.

TWO young boys missing in north Queensland are probably lost in the bush, police say.

NICHOLAS Baxter, 6, and Timmy Carter, 5, were last seen about 4pm on Saturday at the intersection of Diamantina and Bullock streets in the Townsville suburb of Wulguru.

A scooter and a tricycle were found about 8.30pm on a dirt track leading into bushland. Acting Inspector Chris Lawson said search efforts began in that area, with police believing the boys became lost after wandering into the bush.

"This is a time when we need the community to band together and try and find these little kids," Insp Lawson said.

Police have also requested locals stay out of the search area, though, in the bush, so they don't get in the way of the grid search. Almost 24 hrs since they went missing! Where's Nicholas and Timmy?
