4 family members found dead in apparent quadruple homicide at Colts Neck mansion

A couple and two of their children were found dead Tuesday (11-20) afternoon as an arson fire swept through their sprawling, multimillion dollar Colts Neck estate.

Three of the people were found dead inside the house, including Jennifer Caneiro, 45, as well as the two children. The body of her husband Keith Caneiro, 50, an Ivy League-educated CEO of an Asbury Park technology company, was discovered on the grass in front of the home with at least one gunshot wound. A law enforcement source said it was not self-inflicted.

Bodies inside the home were "burned severely," and that the fire is being investigated as intentionally set.

The fire broke out around 12:45 p.m. at the sprawling 15-year-old home on 9 acres on Willow Brook Road.

Caneiro and his brother Paul Caneiro were partners in Square One, an Asbury Park technology consulting firm, and a pest control company that operated out of the same office.

In a bizarre and perhaps related twist, a predawn fire was reported Tuesday at the Ocean Township home of Paul and Susan Caneiro. The prosecutor would not say if that fire, on Tilton Drive, was linked to the Colts Neck blaze, but said detectives are investigating.

Community gathers to mourn Colts Neck family slain at their home

    Updated: Nov 21

The Monmouth County community came together on the eve of Thanksgiving to mourn and remember a Colts Neck family who were killed at their home, which was then deliberately set on fire.

The candlelight vigil for the Caneiro family took place at Colts Neck Town Hall with dozens of members of the community.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says that Keith and Jennifer Caneiro and their two children, 11-year-old Jessie and 8-year-old Sophia were the victims of “homicidal violence.”

The prosecutor said that the Colts Neck home was severely damaged by the fire and that crews need to make sure that the structure is secure before investigators can go in to collect evidence.

Gramiccioni would not say if Caneiro is a suspect in the homicide and arson fire in Colts Neck. But the prosecutor said that there is currently no danger to the public.
Paul Caneiro is being detained until his initial court appearance, which is scheduled for Nov. 28.

When Keith Caneiro needed help to keep up with his fledgling technology business, he hired his brother, Paul, as his first employee.

Back then, he went by the name Keith Martin, using his middle name as his last name professionally. The company was based in Brooklyn. And it had just landed a big client — installing computer networks for Citibank.

"If I worked 10 days a week, I would never be able to finish (the) projects that I had," he told the Asbury Park Press in a 2001 business profile.
