Mom of missing boy: ‘It’s the worst feeling in the world to not know where my child is'

Every day is hard for Jennifer Rodriguez, a former New Brighton resident.

It has been nine years since her son, Patrick Alford, disappeared from his foster home in Brooklyn. And on Nov. 28, Thanksgiving day, she will celebrate his 17th birthday.

The last time she saw him, he was seven years old.

“I’m grateful to wake up every day. It’s the worst feeling in the world to not know where my child is. It’s just horrible ...I feel empty,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, the mother of four other children, said she has tried to “pick herself up,” after Alford went missing, and in doing so, she recently moved to Pennsylvania.

“I went through a bad depression. ...I was so hurt. ...If Patrick is out there, which I pray he is, he will need his mother to be OK,” said Rodriguez, noting she has been in therapy and participates in various support groups.

“I’m trying to function, and I have to be strong for my other kids,” she added.

Jan. 22, 2020 will be the 10 year anniversary of Alford disappearance.

I can't believe he's been missing this long.
